Quote from: markf on December 04, 2025, 09:16:59 PMI thought this was wrong.....but this morning I heard a program discussing prerecorded, live concerts.

Apparently nowadays... (I'm old) Having part, or most of "live" concert prerecorded is commonplace. And machine gun Kelly is said to have a lot of prerecorded tracks.

And the people buying tickets, don't care.  So it's a Spectacle, not a concert. The performers are  just posing,  with instruments.

Amazing to me.

Better not Try that in front of a blue grass crowd...

I could tell the bass player wasn't really playing. Started back with Madonna, so much extra stuff going on stage with the dancing, the performance of the music became secondary. Classify it under "entertainment", not music.

It Must be extremely boring for any actual musicians taking part.

I take it you've never seen Green Day live before.
Weak live
Seen them, didn't do it for me, more hype than substance for me, took my younger brother and his friend maybe 15 or 20 years ago.  Been a long time that's for sure.

Back in the day at PJ shows the crowd would chant play play play

No banter or hype required

He's a straight up hater.
Nothing gets the crowd going faster than busting out the acoustic guitar for Off He Goes  ;)
There is no reason for calling someone a hater for simply stating their opinion.  It's not true and I don't believe in name calling on here.

PJs live show is much more real and authentic than Green Day imo.  PJ has an incredible discography of killer crowd rousing tunes.  Off he goes is one of their most incredible songs and one of my favs.  It's soft and beautiful and gets a good sing along going.  Yes doesn't pump up the crowd but it does stir emotions imo.

Picking that song to try and prove your point holds no weight to this argument imo.

I don't hate Green Day.  Music not my speed and I didn't like the live show.

Anyways Machine GUn Kelly was a good spectacle and one of the more slick halftime productions in Grey Cup history.  It's a far cry from the garbage that was served up in 1998 when Chris Sheppard played on the field without a stage and I couldn't even see the fireworks because the wind caused them to drift over the roof of the upper deck where I was sitting.

MGK felt overly slick...as is the case with most pop artists/nowadays...sounded like pre-recorded backing vocals, auto-tune.  Also, the guitar and other instruments were almost assuredly pre-recorded as with the case with all these live halftime performances...production doesn't want to risk a glitch.

MGK is a bit past his prime already, probably peaked a few years ago.  He is type that will sell out a little over half the available tickets in the arena...just have to go to ticketmaster to check out the sales of his arena shows to find out.  The halftime ratings for the Grey Cup reflect this..he barely bumped up the ratings at all.

Green Day was a little over 10 years past the the end of their prime when they performed in 2023.  The difference is they are far more popular than Machine Gun Kelly as they can sell 30-40,000 seats in a baseball stadium
We are all allowed to have an opinion on here without being call terrible.

What music people follow and listen to is based on a lot of factors.  Everyone has their favorite flavors. No right or wrong in what flavors one chooses

Didn't really enjoy MGK.  Not a fan of live music that is recorded.  I would appear some loved it which is good.
