Top CFL returner Isaiah Wooden returns for Hamilton Tiger-Cats against Elks

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have one of the most explosive players in the CFL back at their disposal on Saturday.

Budding young return specialist Isaiah Wooden will officially step back into the lineup this week after missing the last four regular-season games due to a shoulder injury he sustained against the B.C. Lions in early August.

The five-foot-nine, 170-pound speedster was arguably the CFL's most dangerous returner for the first half of the season, recording 24 kickoff returns for 747 yards and two touchdowns, 27 punt returns for 454 yards and one score, and three missed field goal returns for 67 yards.

The Southern Utah University product currently leads the league in punt return average (16.8 yards), kickoff return average (31.1 yards), and total return touchdowns (three). Phillip Brooks has been demoted to the practice roster in order to make room for his return.

Unfortunately, the Ticats will be without promising linebacker Kyler Fisher, who has been added to the one-game injured list due to a shoulder issue. The 24-year-old has amassed 43 defensive tackles, eight special teams tackles, and a sack in 11 games this year. Braxton Hill will step into the starting weakside spot, while Ray Wilborn has been activated to back him up.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (8-5) will host the Edmonton Elks (5-8) at Hamilton Stadium on Saturday, September 20 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Elks are coming off a 31-30 last-second loss to Toronto, while the Tiger-Cats beat Winnipeg at Hamilton Stadium by a score of 32-21.

The weather forecast in Hamilton calls for temperatures of 15 degrees and cloudy skies. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS2 in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 880 CHED in Edmonton and Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton.

Edmonton Elks add DB Royce Metchie to six-game injured list

The Edmonton Elks will be without a pair of impact defenders for Saturday's clash with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Safety Royce Metchie has officially been placed on the six-game injured list with an Achilles injury, though the team has yet to announce whether his season is done. The 29-year-old has amassed 31 defensive tackles in 10 games since coming over from Toronto.

Also out this week is the reigning Most Outstanding Rookie, Nick Anderson, who made his return from the six-game injured list in the last game. He has now been placed on the one-game injured list with a hip issue.

Brock Mogensen will once again step in at middle linebacker, while Kordell Jackson will roll from halfback to safety to replace Metchie. Jaylin Williams will draw into the roster and make his debut at boundary half.

Also dressing in depth roles are Canadian linebacker Josiah Schakel and Global defensive end Richard Jibunor. Global linebacker Alex Raich will be a healthy scratch.

No talk on this HoF game yet?  I'm watching while mostly thinking about the WPG game.  So far pretty boring, and all the HOF talk gets a bit tedious.  Makes the game kind of secondary.

Kenny looking very limpy with some knee issue.  But he got a TD, so that helps my fantasy team.

They called a Rempel rule hit on the EDM LS.  It was a first because he didn't get trucked, instead the DL guy pulled him forward.  Weird, but I'm glad they keep 300 lb DTs from beating the tar out of LSers.

Right before halftime they called no-end on EDM on a FG.  Killam was freaking out.

So I looked at it and everything looked 100% perfectly aligned to me.  Looked like every other FG attempt alignment I've ever seen.

Question: do both "TE positions" need to check in with the line ref to be considered "ends"?  That's the only thing I can think of.  Someone didn't check in.  Which is kind of silly since everyone can see those "TEs" are in "normal" FG formation (yes, technically they aren't right on the line, they are in a wing).

Yes that's the rule, but I agree it seems silly but there is probably a good reason for retaining it.

Yes, by rule, your formation must have 2 eligible receivers on the line book ending your 5 ineligible players. TE need to report if they are wearing an ineligible number. That's High school JV stuff mr killam.

4Q6:10 Peters puts a massive hit on Smith while he's catching.  Near exact replica of the Pickett crippling of Wheatie.  This one gets an instant flag.

But on replay Peters did not lead with his helmet.  There was zero H2H, just like the Wheatie hit.  Yes, Smith did lower his head and it was shoulder to helmet.  But I'm pretty sure the rule fixates on what the hitter's helmet does, not the hittee's helmet.

So because Wheatie is very tall and didn't duck his head, he gets broken ribs and no flag.  Because Smith is a waterbug and lowered his head, he draws a flag and has no broken bones.

Make it make sense.

There must have been an ineligible end outside the tight end and instead of being a yard off the line to keep the TE eligible, he must have been up on the line making him the end and ineligible if not reported. I d love to see the video or photo of the alignment to see what was called, but that's what I m thinking the furthest player out on the line was ineligible and on the line hence cancelling any eligible players they had on the line
