QB Chad Kelly left off Toronto Argonauts' roster vs Edmonton despite dropping comeback video
By 3Down Staff -September 12, 2025

Chad Kelly
will not make his official comeback in Week 15, no matter what he says on social media.

The 31-year-old quarterback was officially left off the Toronto Argonauts' depth chart for their game against the Edmonton Elks on Saturday, remaining on the six-game injured list. Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie already confirmed earlier in the week that Nick Arbuckle would start under centre, though there was hope that Kelly would at least dress after being limited all week in practice.

Last week, Kelly posted a video to his Instagram account featuring clips of him in an Argonauts uniform at BMO Field. The words "the comeback" were written across the screen near the end of the video, along with the date for Toronto's upcoming home game. It appears that the team is not bound by the same timeline as that personal marketing video.

Kelly has yet to dress for the Argonauts since he suffered a fractured right tibia and fibula during the East Final last year. In 45 career regular-season CFL games, he has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 6,871 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. He has also rushed 113 times for 599 yards and 19 scores. The native of Buffalo, N.Y. won a Grey Cup with Toronto as a rookie in 2022 and was named the league's Most Outstanding Player in 2023.

Nick Arbuckle has started all 12 of Toronto's games this season, completing 72.8 percent of his passes for 3,828 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He has also rushed 38 times for 150 yards and two scores to lead the team in rushing until Spencer Brown passed him during the Labour Day Classic against Hamilton on Monday.

Actually making their returns to the lineup this week are American running back Deonta McMahon, Canadian long snapper Adam Guillemette, and Global defensive lineman Thiadric Hansen. Canadian offensive lineman Anthony Vandal (ankle) has been placed on the one-game injured list, while American receiver Dorian Anderson and Canadian long snapper Simon Chaves return to the practice roster.

The Toronto Argonauts (4-8) will host the Edmonton Elks (5-7) on Saturday, September 13 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The Elks got a 31-19 upset win over Calgary last week, while Toronto was on a bye.

The weather forecast in Toronto calls for a high of 24 degrees with a mix of sun and cloud. The game will be broadcast on TSN and CTV in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 880 CHED in Edmonton and TSN 1050 in Toronto.

Award-winning LB Nick Anderson returns for Edmonton Elks against Toronto
By 3Down Staff -September 12, 2025

The Edmonton Elks are getting a massive piece of their defence back against the Toronto Argonauts.

Linebacker Nick Anderson returns to the lineup following a stint on the six-game injured list with a groin injury. The 25-year-old appeared in the first six games for Edmonton this year, recording 39 defensive tackles and one sack.

The native of Vicksburg, Miss. was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2024 after recording 111 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and one interception. He was also named an All-CFL at linebacker.

Anderson will take over for rookie Brock Mogensen in the middle. Canadian linebacker Josiah Schakel has been ruled out with a rib injury, while defensive lineman Elijah Alston has been returned to the practice roster.

The Elks could be without the services of top returner and backup running back Javon Leake, who is listed as a game-time decision due to illness. Rookie Canadian running back Isaiah Knight will make his CFL debut as insurance at that position. Fullback Tanner Green (knee) has been placed on the six-game injured list and will be replaced by Jacob Plamondon.

The Edmonton Elks (5-7) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (4-8) on Saturday, September 13 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m.

Stats Junkie

First half observations

- no run game for either team
- Toronto failed twice on 3rd and short when handing off out of shot gun.
- Edmonton time count with 11 seconds left in half. Hajrullahu doesn't kick the FG on the final play without those 9½ yards.

If Edmonton wins this game they will have the same record as the Bombers and based on how the Bombers look at the moment I have my doubts whether or not we could beat them when we hook up again.

Stats Junkie

Arbuckle comes out of the tent and limps onto the field only to throw his 4th interception of the game (5 if you count the one that was negated by penalty).

I think Edmonton's turn around lately is more about improved defensive play than Fajardo in for Ford.

A couple of injuries on Edmonton's D today.

What a insulting move on Dinwitty with his move to the Edmonton bench... class act

Stats Junkie

Who had Doege with the game winning FG drive for the win on their bingo card?

Fajardo strip sack for a TD earlier in the 4th was the key play to the Argos win.

The time count prior to halftime could have been the turning point.

Quite the finish. I don't know if that made the chances of a western team crossover easier or harder. It did make it more difficult for the Elks to finish 4th and be in that position. We have a 13 point advantage in our 2nd game against them.

Now all we have to do is finish ahead of the Lions to win 3rd in the west. A crossover is still there as plan B.
One game at a time.

Man I d love to have dinwiddie as our HC. He game plans for his backup Qb only to change that in game for his backup backup Qb and manages a clock like you should. Calls plays attacking the prevent D to get the ball in field goal range for the win. Hogan and O'Shea couldn't tie this guys boots to come to the park, but awesome to see a smart strategic approach to the game vs run the RPO option have have your Qb try to win the game on his own.  Tell me doege didn't look better than 4 yr streveler and didn t they just acquire him?? Guarantee you if Wilson was on the Argos roster he would have done just fine too, that's the difference when you have a smart coach who understands the game. And isn't dinwiddie both hc and OC?? He's got alot going on and still outsmarts everyone

chad time i guess if arbs is hurt

I'm just starting my football day...

What on earth is TOR going for shotgun handoff to MacMahon on 3rd & 1?  See how important it is to have a solid SY unit that can 99% get you 3rd & 1, without the risk of taking it off the line?

EDM run blitzed and hosed them way behind LoS.

Pretty funny, actually.  Love seeing the look on Dinwiddie's face.  His goofy looks are almost as satisfying as Maas'.

Oh my, 2Q1:20 and TOR does it AGAIN, shotgun 3rd & 1 and they get nada and TOD.  WOW.

Does TOR not have a sneak unit??  What are they thinking?  MacMahon can't get yards if his life depended on it.  It's his first game back.  Was he injured?  Still injured probably.

Haha, challenging the spot, good luck with that with garbage camera angles because he ran right and so the entire box of bodies is obscuring the cameras.

Quote from: Stats Junkie on September 13, 2025, 08:29:15 PM- no run game for either team

Which is quite odd because Dinwiddie likes to try to have a run game.  And even odder given what Rankin did for EDM last week (200Y)!

I'm expecting Rankin to do better in the 2nd H.  TOR hasn't been that great against the run this season, no?
