Coach's show

Anyone catch this today?  I'd be shocked if no one did of course.

Was on my way home from work and only caught the last 25 min or so.  One of the later callers in was quoting stats, saying our offense is a few points ahead of last year, so everyone get off the OC (words to that effect).  I was a bit surprised at how quickly Osh almost growled "agreed" to that statement.

Of course he "agreed" to the other points made for our D (can't remember the details) and other stats.  Essentially being a bit surly indirectly toward the fans - that's how I took it.

Interestingly DT (I think it was him doing the show today?) pointed out how these stats can be skewed because some points are on ST and so not accurate regarding O - reminded me immediately of some other posts on here that I read about how Osh seems surly with DT because he asks tougher questions and maybe doesn't pitch the beachball over the plate for him like Bob Irving did - not sure I agree that Bob did that, but it sure reminded me of that comment.

So seriously - it's well documented in the papers that there were a few egregious errors on offense, and hard to argue against.  Bob Irving did a bit this morning on the drive in to work about taking the points instead of going for it, but other decisions were more egregious I would say.  Doug Brown pointed them out well on Twitter.

Now my question is - what were the questions posed to Osh in the first 40 minutes or so of the show?  Did anyone outright challenge some of those decisions on offense, and if so how did he defend them? Because I assume he defended them if it occurred.  He is loyal and I do respect that.

At some point he may have to admit that a decision was just plain stupid, and it was a mistake.  That would be refreshing.  And I am saying this as a fan of coach Osh.

So any insight into the earlier part of the show would be appreciated.

If you google "global news audio vault", you can listen to the coaches show in its entirety yourself. And you can even fast forward through the endless commercials.

So true - I would be surprised if there is more than 20 minutes of actual show in that hour with commercials and all the other things stuffed into it.

Thank you for the suggestion, I appreciate it.

For now, I'm trying to save myself from having to do that, and also wanting to hear the opinions of others here, which is always fun.

It's easier to listen to the podcast as it removes the commercials. (tonight's podcast is 37 minutes long)

Seriously?!  The podcast, taking out all commercials and non-BB stuff is 37 minutes long?  I've got to listen to that on the way to work tomorrow - I may have totally misjudged the substance to crap ratio on cjob if that is the case.

For us old guys that remember Dieter Brock - can you provide a link to the podcasts?  I don't want to be searching while driving tomorrow (I'm just kidding about the driving and searching, I wouldn't do that - anymore...)

Thanks in advance!

One thing I did hear on the show - Osh saying Schoen is good to go.  So I guess that is one piece of info that answers a lot of questions in other threads.

Honestly surprised Osh would give that info up, it sounded impulsive and maybe he didn't think it through giving that info, since he is so protective of any injury report (which I do not understand - theoretically it can be an advantage hiding that from opposition, but has it ever proven to be?  And at what cost - alienating your fanbase that is wanting any bit of info?).

I think the problem is DT thinks like a "nerd", and MOS thinks like a "jock".  MOS's brain literally can't fathom why anyone would think of football the way DT does.  I think he thinks it's all irrelevant.  MOS focuses on the things he thinks will win game, and numbers or nerdy stuff have nothing to do with that.

And maybe he's right.  But it comes off (maybe) as arrogant because MOS's isn't even willing to actually listen and really think about the "DT type" questions.  So he dismisses them or says "no" and moves on.  Or worse, he subtly mocks him.

MOS is completely incurious about any method of thinking outside of the "football normal" and what he's used to.  DT could have the answer to win every single game and MOS would literally just ignore him.  Just like MOS completely dismissed the math a few year ago that proved going for 2PAT every time is mathematically better.  And when we here figured out taking the O first in O/T is mathematically better.  Anything like that the curmudgeon will ignore.

And again, maybe he's right.  (He does do a heck of a lot of winning for us!)

Watch the movie Money Ball.  DT is the nerdy glasses math guy.  MOS is all the old guys in the room dismissing the nerdy way of thinking.  (Not sure who Brad Pitt is here.)

And I'm not bashing MOS.  I love MOS, and I'm perfectly fine with how he does his job.  However, I could sit in a room with DT all day and it would be great; 10 mins with MOS and it would probably be a disaster.

Trust me, anyone that could be alienated has already done so.  Everyone who's lasted this long isn't going anywhere now.

I guess you have the issue of the brand noob fans... they're still trying to pick (a) or (b) above.

Good link. I didn't know about that one. I have been using:

https://podcasts.apple.com/si/podcast/blue-bombers-podcast/id1110429736

It shows only the Bomber podcasts. Pre-game, post-game, coaches show etc.

I enjoy listening every week and I liked the explanation he gave on the 1 point instead of the safety (2 point) on Nichols #1 play.  Another good point he said was the crew who officated doesn't call as much penalties and he said he wishes they would (Bombers would be ahead) and they point out to the players so they correct them.

I also liked that he stated the noise at the toilet bowl was  louder at another year.  (he said it was managable)  and our fans are louder and more knowledgeable when it comes to noise.

I was actually surprised he said SCHOEN was fine as well (he never reveals injuries)  I guess the older women (I can say that because I am an older woman) was pretty direct.

Sway

Did Oshea admit the defense was completelty lost on what was happening on the Harris punt play? J/k

It ended up working out but I dont think Zach was driving 109 yards.

And i think thats a safety

I missed that part about the officiating crew not calling penalties as much as others - to be honest, as much as he may not buy in to the stats/moneyball side, it shows that some data make an impact on him.  Thank you for adding this - very interesting.

Yes, really surprised he said anything about a player being good.  And yet Schoen didn't practice.  Hopefully just being careful.

I agree with everything you said here, up until the last sentence, on both counts.

First - Osh - I was at a dinner where he was speaking to a smallish crowd, and it was awesome - he really kept the room engaged, even for people that aren't that into football.  I could probably think of good questions and have a fun discussion with him for a long time.

DT - all I can go by is the radio.  I agree he does some great analysis and has great questions, and pushes things sometimes that others may not, which I really like.  However - every time he is finishing off a segment, or reading from a script, or coming to the end of something - he gradually slows his speech, then does a pause between..every....single......freaking.........word................(yes the pauses get longer toward the end).

So I assume DT would do that in a conversation, and I would have to leave the room for any excuse.
