Antoine Brooks Jr. to make first CFL start for Saskatchewan Roughriders against Calgary
By 3Down Staff -July 10, 2025

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have tapped American defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr. to make his first career CFL start on Friday night in place of an injured Tevaughn Campbell.

Brooks Jr. joined the Roughriders last season and spent almost the full year on the practice roster, dressing for one regular-season game. He started this season on the practice roster again but was promoted to the active roster last week, recording one defensive tackle and one interception.

The 27-year-old native of Lanham, Md. was a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played one season with the team before joining the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, helping the team win Super Bowl LVI. He then had stints with the Seattle Sea Dragons and Memphis Showboats before coming to the CFL.

Collegiately, Brooks Jr. was a two-time second-team All-Big Ten selection at the University of Maryland, where he recorded 237 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, nine pass knockdowns, four interceptions, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Campbell, who Brooks Jr. is replacing in the starting lineup, didn't practice this week due to a groin injury and has been moved to the one-game injured list. The 32-year-old native of Scarborough, Ont. started Saskatchewan's first four games at cornerback, recording 12 defensive tackles, two interceptions, and one touchdown.

As expected, veteran quarterback Trevor Harris will return to the lineup this week after missing the last game before the bye with a head injury. However, the Riders' offence will be without the services of backup Canadian running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon (thigh) and starting American left guard Trevon Tate (shoulder) long-term, as both have been placed on the six-game injured list.

Former all-star running back Ka'Deem Carey will dress for his second game as a Rider behind CFL rushing leader A.J. Ouellette. Canadian Zack Fry will take over as left guard, with Noah Zerr dressed as the sixth man.

Fullback Albert Awachie (hip) and linebacker Melique Straker (thigh) both return to the field after injury absences. In corresponding moves, fullback Morgen Runge has been demoted to the practice roster, while quarterback Jack Coan will be a healthy scratch.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0) will host the Calgary Stampeders (3-1) at Mosaic Stadium on Friday, July 11 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. Calgary recorded a surprise upset win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week by a score of 37-16, while Saskatchewan was on a bye week.

The weather forecast calls for a high of 20 degrees with a 40 percent chance of showers and relatively little wind. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and on CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and 620 CKRM in Regina.

First overall CFL draft pick Damien Alford to make first career start for Calgary Stampeders
By 3Down Staff -July 10, 2025

Damien Alford, the first overall pick in the 2025 CFL Draft, will make his first career start when the Calgary Stampeders visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night.

The six-foot-six, 224-pound target will start in place of Clark Barnes, who has been moved to the one-game injured list with an ankle injury he suffered last week against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Alford has recorded four catches for 65 yards and one touchdown over the first three regular-season games of his CFL career.

The 24-year-old native of Montreal, Que. played collegiately at Syracuse University and the University of Utah. He caught 67 passes for 1,291 yards and seven touchdowns over 46 total games and impressed scouts from both sides of the border with a 4.46-second forty-yard dash at the Big 12 pro day earlier this year.

Canadian defensive back Benjamin Labrosse (hamstring) and American running back Eno Benjamin (healthy scratch) have both been moved to the one-game injured list alongside Barnes.

Those three roster spots have been given to Canadian receiver Vyshonne Janusas, Canadian defensive back Kaylyn St-Cyr, and American return specialist Kaylon Horton. St-Cyr made nine special teams tackles over seven games last season, while Janusas was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft.

Veteran linebacker Adam Bighill, who recently signed with the team, remains on the practice roster as he continues to recover from a torn ACL he suffered last year as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The Calgary Stampeders (3-1) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-0) at Mosaic Stadium on Friday, July 11 with kickoff slated for 9:00 p.m. EDT. Calgary recorded a surprise upset win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last week by a score of 37-16, while Saskatchewan was on a bye week.

The weather forecast calls for a high of 20 degrees with a 40 percent chance of showers and relatively little wind. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and on CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and 620 CKRM in Regina.

The Zipp

in halifax for a little holiday - not sure how these sports fans do it who live here, any game in central or mountain time is sooo late.  we are lucky to live in CSDT zone!!

Gonna be lots of whiners on the Rider forum about not getting back to their little town till 1am...

I wonder if tix sales will take a hit here.  Almost certainly will impact butts in seats.

Smoke forecast site is saying it might not be under 10 until 10:30pm CDT (our time).

Riders just announced a further 30 min delay

Keep extending your PVR "stop time" settings!

EDIT: Sorry, riders just said the delay is unknown, and once the air is safe THEN they'll warm up THEN they'll play 30 mins later.  So it could actually be something like a 10pm KO.

Now, I wonder who the delay will favor/hurt more, the visitor or the home team?  Too bad fantasy/pickems is all locked in.

EDIT 2: Interesting, playnow still has the betting open, I guess they pay someone to watch for an actual game start.

Marcus Sayles being interviewed by Claire.  He mentioned the latest-game-ever (when he was in WPG).  Isn't that the one Strev started, and we narrowly lost right at the end?  Didn't Fogg get a KRTD in that one?  Great fun, even if a loss.

Edit: Lapo just remembered it, HAM@WPG.

We're exactly halfway there.  I'm sure it will start

EDIT:
Hmm, forecast site showing between 12:30-2:00 for it to reduce below 10.  Word in Regina is there is no wind.  That's not good.

3 hours will be 11pm at the latest... this might be tight.  I wonder if the league can just say "good enough" like they sometimes seem to do.  Have someone blow compressed air over the sensors @Mosaic to fudge the numbers!!

EDIT 2: I wonder if a dome would be able to play... air filters work on smoke?

Merv 13 air filters work great for smoke, I built two box fan air filters for my home.  A proven way to clean indoor air.  Could it be done for a dome, not sure.
