This is the problem.

We're still riding our first wave of stars (who have been fantastic), but then there is an absolute dearth of success through the draft. We are unable to sign or even trade for big FAs, so we supplement with the old guys and it's not good enough.
My wife is amazing!

Per Murat Ates of The Atlantic, Bettman and Chipman have had another discussion regarding consolidation of the Jets 1.0 and 2.0 records. It sounds like the latter is pushing for some sort of resolution sooner than later.

Late 1st round picks always take longer to develop if at all. This is why some teams like Vegas and Florida trade off those picks near the trade deadline for a player that has a few years of NHL experience.

Fetts so far is have a terrible season. 15 games, 5 points mostly on the PP. -9. He's got time to turn it around, but not a good look for him going into RFA this summer.

This has been a terrible run with no real answers
Chevy's gamble to create the "oldest" winning team is a wreck

Might as well start tanking. This season is pretty much cooked.

So, CH37 returns, Jets go on a 18-0 streak, and still aren't first in the division?

Love Comrie, and he's a great 2nd banana at a great price, but pressed into starting, we've lost too many 1 goal games where that goal was a softy.  We can't continually out shoot opponents 2 to 1 and lose.

Sure, we need a higher scoring percentage on those shots, and certain of our players have a troop of Capuchins on their backs, but this team is better than the record, by far.

It would be nice if .com gets a night off and a Moose goaler steals us a game.  That might just be the boost the team needs, but can Arneil make that decision to sit .com?  He's put the lines in the blender, why not the goalies?  Certainly couldn't be worse.

This team is as good as its record.

Since beating the Penguins on Nov. 1st, the Jets are 5-12-1 and have yet to beat a team currently in a playoff position.

The problems started to emerge the first week of November, a good while before Hellebuyck was deactivated (Nov. 21st).
Maybe 37 steals a game or two, but that's of little comfort when we've seen this team get drubbed more often that not, only to see them tumble down the standings, and are now all of four points from the bottom on the entire league. Comrie undoubtedly needs more run support than the reigning Vezina and Hart winner, but he's not getting it. This team should've stepped up in light of their starting netminder's absence; the opposite has happened instead. To me, that speaks volumes as to the overall identity/character right now.

From the standpoint of fundamentals, this is a mediocre team at best, and a bad team at worst. There are too many passengers on the roster, which is pretty bewildering when you look at it.

And I think Arniel's roster management has had a negative impact, too.

I like our team on paper but they are not executing and appear to not even be competitive on many games. Unsurprisingly, our annual bargain bin pick-ups (Pearson, Koepke, Nyquist) don't do anything useful and worse, consume minutes we may as well be using on our prospects, regardless of if the org thinks they're "ready" or not. All these things add up to being a coaching issue as far as I know, and I say this as an Arniel and Chevy supporter. I don't think Hellebuyck can stop the bleeding on his own, either.

I'll maintain irrational optimism for now but if this continues into the new year we are cooked. My answer is that we need the coaching staff to try and get more out of this roster. We have the talent and that's why it's so frustrating.

I am with you. Getting a top 5 pick in the draft could be a game changer for this team. A player like McKenna, or a big power forward like Rudolph 6'2" 203 RW, or Roobroeck 6'4" 216, both are physical and have good hands.
