Watching the Ambrosie State Of The League 2024 again (this time until the end) I stumbled upon the reporter & him addressing the Chad Kelly violence vs harrassment issue.

They were addressing exactly what I stated at the time in the big long threads about the Kelly suspension: that the policy might be badly named, that Kelly is being unfairly labeled/condemned, and that a rename or separating the policies may be wise.

I just found it interesting this actually got addressed.  I always assumed our media and commish were way too milquetoast to wade into that "modern society" optics minefield.

Surprisingly, they made a good conversation of it (albeit with one slip-up in verbiage forbidden by the PC crowd, lol).  For those who don't watch, the reporter thought it unfair Kelly is labelled online as a r*pist, violent abuser, etc.  Ambrosie agreed and basically waffled saying he tried to get the punishment right and did his best, etc.

They talked about the name of the policy and how it can lead to this nomenclature fail.  They had a remarkably good and easy solution of possibly splitting the policy into two policies: actual violence vs harrassment.  I would hope the new commish makes the change.  (However, I doubt that will occur because I think the conflation of the two is not accidental, as it is pervasive... but I digress.)

P.S. As in the prior Kelly threads, I'm not defending the guy, he's a DB and I still don't like him.  But I call out unfairness even when it falls upon my enemies.

Glad that you were able to prove yourself correct on the issue.

No one gives a poop about this issue?  I bet the new Commish will shy away from it as well.  I think Ambrosie was miffed it was even brought up.  Everyone's so scared of "PC" topics.

I just hope (and wish) that neither a combined nor separated policy will ever need to be consulted again.  Players need to just behave.

P.S. What's the O/U on Kelly screwing up again?

Why not just quit while you're ahead?

Cause it's still a month until kickoff?  Forum is deader than Durant's reputation.

No one cares about the issue. Kelly was deemed to be harassing an employee, got punished under the harassment policy. If he committed acts of violence, he'd be out of the league.

The media and fan backlash is a [deserved] consequence of his actions. Creating seperate policies would do nothing to prevent that.

A year ago we discussed this to death and back again. I agree with Jessie, time to move on.

The reporter cared enough in late November to ask Ambrosie, so there's more than "no one".

I think it'll crop up every time Kelly gets far in the playoffs.  It had died down during the '24 season, but obviously picked up again as TOR progressed in the post-season.

It's easy to say "don't care" because it's Kelly, and everyone not in TOR hates him.  But it still isn't fair to him.  And there almost certainly will be a "next time" with some other player in the future.  Why not "solve it" (if possible) before then?

I understand where you're all coming from.  I only brought it up because it took up a non-trivial amount of the SOT-CFL presser and was shocking to me someone dared go against the narrative (and moderately fun to watch Ambrosie squirm!).

I don't "not care" because it's Kelly, I don't care because there isn't an issue to solve. They have a harassment policy and enforced it. Yes they will probably have to use it again in the future.
