Riders ditch Armstead

Riders release Armstead.  That means they are going to basically rely on Oullette as the only feature back.

I'm a bit surprised because in every single season Oullette spends a big chunk of time in the tub.  And when he's not in the tub he's looking like he's in dire pain by the middle of most games.

He just seems to have a fragile body.  Maybe that's why he over-muscles himself: to hide or make up for the fragility?  I don't see him having a long career.  Reminds me a bit of Messam, but with way less talent.

As for Armstead, I assume he was on a 2-year contract and this was year 2?  Not very nice of SSK to keep him tied up through FA and thus drastically reduce his options with other teams.  I guess he could be an injury-signing somewhere once the season starts.  Definitely won't be a Bomber, given his mental/character problems.  Can't aruge he doesn't have speed/slipperiness though!

Morow is long gone, and Hickson I think was released early on, so who does SSK thing is going to be their RB when Oullette gets injured?

P.S. No matter what, it's a smart move getting A.Harris to try to turn Oullette into a real RB, and maybe teach him how to reduce injuries.  I love seeing the mental gymnastics in SSK fandom trying to rationalize their hatred for AH having to turn into admiration.

P.P.S. Their forum is about as dead as this forum... slow part of the year.  Need the draft to perk things up!

Armstead is mentally unstable, could be causing the Riders too much grief back home or behind the scenes, remember Ottawa cut him loose for that very reason. Don't think any other teams will be interested in taking him on.

Also running backs are the easiest position to slot in an American rookie. Shelf life tends to be short.

Agree. I think headcase Armstead burnt his last bridge in the CFL, he's done, as if the Riders won't put up with your antics, that's saying something!! Also, the way he was released maybe says more about the way he treated the Riders and he just got what was coming to him. See ya later loser!!

Ya, but few of them show the flash of talent that Armstead did.  We saw that in his first few games.  And that 200 yarder when in green was impressive.

He did more in one season than that Mizzel tha shizzle or Morow or any of the other never-were guys did in multiple seasons.

Oh well.

It looks like greenies think Bertrand-Hudon (sp?) is the next guy up.  Ya, good luck with that one.  I'm pretty sure he'll never be the next Brady.

Armstead was a very capable runningback, no doubt, but sadly he came from the Terrell Owens school of me-first primadona football players, and wore out his welcome quick. If you don't fit in, doesn't matter how talented you are as every team, even the low life Riders, have a breaking point.

Ya, but some team might give him the "Duron Carter" extended 2nd, 3rd, 46th chance.  Then again, Chris Jones is gone, so maybe not.

At least he hasn't been caught smuggling weed in airports yet, so there's that.

So then why sign him late last season?  Just Oullette injury insurance?  I bet Armstead wishes they had cut him in Dec instead of waiting until everyone's roster was full.

Correction: no one is shocked except for one person.

I'm not shocked either.  I thought it was a mistake when they first signed him.

However, the fact remains they now have nobody behind arguably the most injury-prone RB in the whole league...
