I think this was the best thing for everyone. Buck will make a great head coach and we will hopefully find a really hungry replacement.

thanks for the Grey Cup win Buck. good luck except against us.

The Zipp

i will be the first to say no thanks to Lapo...been there done that!

Thanks for all Buck. Congratulations on the appointment!

I for one was hoping he wouldn't leave but am happy for him. Wonder if Maksymic stays or does he take over from Buck.
Hopefully we can get our coaching staff etc solidified so we can move forward with FA, draft etc.

ModAdmin

Next question/concern - will any of our guys follow him to BC?

I love Lapo... on TSN and I think as an OC he's fine.. but no to a HC.

Blueforlife

Buck was good here and will be great there.  Good job Buck but not the outcome I wanted.  Good for the league.

Ducky

Betcha Schoen goes to BC now.

Rumour says the Bombers will hire assistant Kevin Bourgoin. Hope not.

Good luck to him, he's going to need it. I m not convinced Rourke regains his old form and that'll be rough to get through

Rourke should be better than this season as his fantasy of being an NFL QB should be resolved and over and done with in his mind by then you would expect. Full off season and training camp will help. Former QB as his head coach now. It all rides on him now with no decent backup apparently now and Calgary vs BC games suddenly take on a MUST SEE vibe next season!! BC SUCKS! :D

dd

Ya, the BC vs Calgary games will be more intense for sure, and the Edmonton- Calgary games were always a battle of Alberta, and they ll take that to the next level with Kilam coaching the Elks now. Bombers vs Riders has always been a rivalry, now the west is one big rivalry on different levels.

Seems on brand - which is probably why it's the rumour.

Good for Buck and good for the Bombers. Our O was getting to predictable. It will be nice to have someone new running our offence.

TecnoGenius

I'm truly shocked.  I maintain he's not HC material.  When the dust has cleared I may spell out why.  Since I am thankful for all he has done here, I don't want to say anything bad until maybe it's clear he's a new enemy.

The Rourke angle actually makes perfect sense because now their QB who desperately needs dev can get dev from a great ex-QB.  It also means if we get a younger QB in '26 or '27 we will be lacking that same resource (assuming our next OC isn't a QB).
Never go full Rider!

TecnoGenius

Hard no to Maksymic.  He's the anti-Bomber in his run-last approach.  He wouldn't fit in at all here.  Maybe you could say in previous years he didn't have much to work with for RB, but last year he had GC champ Stanback, and he still went with the run-last scheme.
Never go full Rider!

TecnoGenius

I'd be all in on Lapo.  The Buck O was basically a remodeled and simplified Lapo O anyhow.  I bet half the schemes are still the same.  As such the transition would be easy(er).  But will Lapo work for Buck money??

My second choice would be whoever they are eyeing internally... if the dude feels up to the job.  That would also save oodles of coach SMS$$, though I'm not sure who you'd give it to (don't want to set precedent and be screwed in 2 years).  (Can you carry over unspent coach SMS to future years?)

I'm not keen on any retread (except Lapo), like McAdoo (barf), or any of the run-last OCs.

What I do want is super high-brain creativity and out-smarting D's again.  We haven't out-smarted squat in at least 1.5 seasons.  Look at what TOR O did to us in GC!  That's what I want again.  That's Lapo and Buck year 1&2 type stuff.

You don't have to out-talent and out-physical opponents if you can out-think them (again, see GC).

Nothing stays the same forever. Now we have to see who is the replacement.

Lions offence doesn't really need to many new faces. I can't see them looking to sign our receivers in free agency.

Buck was good for the most part but that last GC game has stuck with me. Such a poor job calling plays.
Yes he won 1 GC but lost 3.
Bombers need to be careful who they get.

Not sure BC has any free agency money. If Buck takes our system there his priority will be to sign his own players. Change is inevitable though, he is bound to have ideas he wants implemented and who he has in mind for that we will see.

Just another situation where I wish this silly league would share its SMS/contract info. I can't imagine the Lions have a lot of space, which would throw a wrench into trying to lure players from here.

I would take back Lapo in a second. He won just as many Grey Cuos as Pierce did as Offensive coordinator.O'Shea has worked with Lapo before so I think he would be a good fit.

Pretty much everyone in the know is reporting that Lapo is staying on at TSN and that Maksymic is heading to Edmonton.

If maksymic is going to Edmonton, where is Jarius Jackson going?? here??

Jesse

My guess is that we get Jackson here. Unless we promote from within.

He seems to have done a decent job with the Elks offence last season, I wouldn't have any objections to giving him a spin.

Is he still under contract or negotiating to stay in Edmonton? Any word on who we've asked for permission to speak to?

Buck called a completely different game than Lapo.  Roots were there from Lapo but Buck made his own house imo.

No idea, I suspect his contract expired with all the talk of Macsymic taking the job.  Wonder why there is no talk of Macsymic considering Wpg? He is from the Edmonton area so maybe it's as simple as that.

How would you feel about AH33 taking over as the Bombers OC.

That would be a gimmick unworthy of discussion, imo.

He'd be great coming in as as RB or WR coach like Buck did when he started.

Throw Long Bannatyne

Buck will continue to call offensive plays but may consider hiring an OC as well.

I think that job would be too boring for AH with it's limited scope. Don't think he's desperate for opportunities after football and is doing pretty well.

Quality ball players don't necessarily make good coaches.

I thought Jarious Jackson did a good job after taking over under difficult circumstances.

Elks under him were good.

I wouldnt mind him at all.

And I doubt any team is desperate enough to force an unqualified player into such an important coaching role.

B.C. signed Buck, but it's still all about Rourke in B.C.

"I'm just excited to build the relationship," Pierce said of his QB. "I had an opportunity to talk to Nathan yesterday and briefly this morning. I think the biggest thing is, let's get to know each other. What do we need from each other? Obviously, he's an elite talent and what he does on the football field makes everybody excited. Let's grow this together. I want this to be a partnership, just like anything else."

I could well be wrong, but Rourke might be a "you're lucky to have me "   type.

Lapo was a great OC, but over his head as HC.

Return as OC and Scout, great fit.

Wishing Buck all the success in the world however I think it would be a mistake IMHO, for him to take on HC and OC duties.....especially as a rookie HC.

I guess his hats depend on how much FO $SMS Campbell ate.  I think there is a one time exemption if they wanted to use it.

Any word on how big / long the contract it?  Did I miss that?

Buck could end up as the next Claybrooks: promoted beyond his competency.  If BC goes from #3W to basement, he could be the scapegoat.

I wonder if Buck's move down from the booth to field level in '24 was him purposefully trying to be more HC-like.  It always seemed like such a strange choice.  Maybe he knew this was the year he was finally going to bite on the HC job.

Ironically, we made major changes to the staff in FA24 explicitly to get Buck more money... all for naught.

I want to reiterate my thanks to and for Buck for all his years as OC and also unit coach before that.  No matter the outcome of the last 3 GCs, I'm extremely thankful he led us to Western championships all these years.  I can handle losing cups as long as I get the sweet, sweet consolation prize of making greenies and orangies depressed every year!

So thanks Buck!  I hope it works out for you.  (But Bombers are gonna be W Champs again in '25!)

great word.....had to look that up

"Backpfeifengesicht

it is one of the rare swear words that not only describe the person you want to offend but literally tells a story in itself. It consists of the parts Backpfeife and Gesicht. The latter simply means "face," the first describes a specific kind of slap. Backpfeife is already a gem of a word. Literally, it translates to "cheek whistle." So when you give someone a Backpfeife, you hit him on his cheek so hard that he hears a whistle in his ears."
