Quote from: dd on November 20, 2024, 11:22:27 PMWhy would anyone trade assets for VA?? Why not let him go to FA?? Yes, you run the risk of not getting him, but you also are paying a premium for getting him. I only see Calgary and Edmonton in the trade for FA conversation, but those are both bottom dwelling teams lacking a deep talent pool to trade, unless they trade one of their Qb
s as a #2 in BC and some draft picks

He isn't a FA.

Oh gotcha.

I'd let him rot in BC before I traded for him then. this is BC's mess, let's see how eager they are to trade him and I'd let them initiate discussions.

The #Elks have asked for permission to speak to #BCLions OC Jordan Maksymic for their vacant head coaching position. No request has been made yet for Rick Campbell. @CFLonTSN @TSN_Sports

What request would be needed for Rick Campbell?  They fired him, he's a "free agent"
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

I assume Farhan means they haven't asked Campbell to come interview yet.

Totally. And because Campbell had a year on his deal maybe there's some temptation to relax and collect a cheque or live off the settlement for a bit, whatever they worked out. He wouldn't be the first coach to decide he wanted a season break.

The catch is that both of those teams need to find a # 1 QB early to generate interest and hope for 2025. Lions reported they would be contacting 2 or 3 possible teams that will be interested as early as last night.

I don't see other players involved coming to the Lions. More probable draft choices, but anything is possible. Each of those teams also has 20 - 30 potential free agents, so the cupboard is thin.

Interestingly the Lions said that a team can escape the salary coaching cap for 1 firing a year. I don't know if that is something new but I think it's a good idea.

Campbell might want to just sit back on his salary for 2025 or he may choose to try and return to the CFL elsewhere. It might depend on whether his contract decreases by any new income he gets.

I can't remember exactly how it works. I think every so often you can terminate a coach and not take the hit but can't remember exactly. They are also able to amortize the hit over 5 years or something too should one need to be applied.
