I always thought Stanback was pretty overrated.

Either way, BC is going to have to shed a bit of money for this season with Rourke earning his full contract now. RB was an easy choice to start the cuts.

I guess a lot of it is how expensive they each are for what they are expected to contribute...  with a running QB, is Butler a better blocker than Stanback?
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

BC got rid of Butler a year ago, only now to dump Stanback, who had a pretty decent season for them, for the sake of $60k. They'll regret this when Rourke struggles, and he will struggle again, or worse, gets hurt, and they'll have to rely on the running game to move the ball. Stanback could move the ball for them, Butler can't. He 's an average RB at best. I am enjoying watching BC self destruct, one bogus personnel move after the other.

Possibly, last time Willy was a FA Pinball wined and dined him and offered about $50k more than Wpg. did.  Pinball loves Willy.

Butler left BC in FA after 2022, I think at one time Hamilton made him the highest paid RB in the league.

That would be a huge shock to me. I don't think it makes a lot of sense for either side, tbh.

Any idea why? Did he get an NFL offer or was he expecting a big raise?  Where will he end up I wonder. He has some talent and has remained healthy and productive. Whether he has an attitude issue or is not a good team guy IDK, but a 700 yard receiver might get some looks.

Biggest reason for these releases is a Jan roster bonus coming due... that'd be my guess

Not very surprised, new management looked at his pay vs. performance and decided he wasn't worth it, probably had a bonus due shortly. It'll be interesting to see what they do with Eugene Lewis, he isn't a FA but his salary is still $50k more than any other CFL receiver without exceptional performance, Hervey may attempt to reel him in.

Actually Lewis is a pending free agent. So are Mayala and Tevin Jones.  That's essentially all of their top receivers.

IIRC Mitchell was earning a lot so this may have been a salary dump. Mitchell was their 4th leading receiver and nearly their 3rd. He was targeted 3rd most on the Elks.

I thought Lewis was a FA too, but checking the list on cfl.ca he isn't listed there.
