Some numbers on the Blue Bombers kick returners in 2024

I use the 40 yard line as the target mark for kickoff returns because that is the spot teams can choose to start a drive after a FG.

Individual Penalties in 2024

Pre-Snap - only detail on the play is the penalty
DBF - Dead Ball Foul. Penalties applied after the play
Misc - Misconduct penalties
Dec - Declined

Note - Some penalties (example Roughing the Passer) can be applied as in play or DBF depending on the result of the play.

My numbers may not equate to numbers produced by the CFL.

Zach Collaros has the worst QB rating among all the 9 starters this year. Just noticed that.

We really need to put some money into our offensive line next year.

What has been true all season is his yards/drive are up there in the top 3, but the points/drive are not.

Our offence doesn't seem to have trouble moving between the 20's, but our redzone offence has been really bad.

To me that's our O-line and missing Shoen.

That is part of the answer - we are weak down the middle (Left Guard - Centre - Right Guard) - but I think part of our issue is the play calling. Also missing Shoen (spelling?) did not help

If Kelly starts at safety next year and Ford re-signs, then we can probably start another American O-lineman.

Finally, I can fully agree with your numbers! Your "3rd" col Att/Made number are bang on with my memory for Strev & Wilson.

To me all other SY stats are not as important because all that matters is if you get it on the 3rd down. If you're doing SY on 2nd, who cares if you botch it as long as you get enough (or don't lose any) to go again on 3rd. (At least in the MOS way of doing things.)

However, those numbers can be useful for deciding if you should go for it on 1.5Y or 2Y, and also what your "now we sneak instead of run" threshold is on 2nd down (which for MOS seems to be 3Y, except in the last game strangely enough).

All the charts are great and thanks for sharing. Very useful data.

Every single season that goes by we get a bit more vanilla on O play calling. And a bit more conservative. Remember how wild & creative we were under Lapo, and Buck's first OC year? Where did all the misdirection go? Was there any at all vs MTL?

The whole (only?) plan now is: control the clock, shorten the game, stay ahead or close, win at the end. (Proof: see 90% of the 2024 season, and the '22 and '23 GCs.)

The only time we deviate is if we're 2 scores down, or our first couple of deep shots are successful. Heaven help us if our first shots are dismal failures: then we turtle into grind mode and take 1 shot a quarter at best.

I said after the '23 GC loss that we "must be bold". Have seen zero bold so far in '24. I hope they're saving up all the "bold" for the GC!! But I won't hold my breath! If they grind & turtle in this GC, I hope to heck they know what they are doing.

We can probably start a 3rd IMP OL right now. And I would. MTL and TOR will have field day otherwise.
