Toronto Argonauts to rest Chad Kelly for regular season finale vs. Edmonton Elks
By 3Down Staff -October 24, 2024

The Toronto Argonauts have elected to rest several veteran players for their regular season finale, including franchise quarterback Chad Kelly.

The 30-year-old native of Buffalo, N.Y. has thrown for 2,451 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions and rushed for 214 yards and five scores since returning from suspension, going 5-3 as a starter. With nothing to play for this week, however, he will dress in a third-string role for the Argonauts, as per the team's depth chart.

Kelly will be replaced in the starting lineup by Cameron Dukes, who has thrown for 1,404 yards, seven touchdowns, and six interceptions and rushed for 299 yards and four scores on the year. He started Toronto's first eight games of the season, posting a record of 4-4.

The team has made four other changes on offence, resting running back Ka'Deem Carey, the team's nominee for Most Outstanding Player, left tackle Ryan Hunter, the team's Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, left guard Dylan Giffen, and right tackle Dejon Allen. The quartet will be replaced by Deonta McMahon, John Bosse, Gregor MacKellar, and Landon Rice, respectively.

The Argonauts have also made four changes on defence, resting defensive end Robbie Smith, middle linebacker Wynton McManis, strong-side linebacker Tunde Adeleke, and field-side halfback DaShaun Amos. Derek Parish has moved into Smith's spot along the defensive line, while Jack Cassar, Tyshon Blackburn, and Kenneth George Jr. will fill the rest of the starting spots, respectively.

Star returner specialist Janarion Grant, who was named the team's nominee for Most Outstanding Special Teams Player, will also not play.

The Toronto Argonauts (10-7) will visit the Edmonton Elks (6-11) on Friday, Oct. 25 with kickoff slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT. The game has no impact on the standings for either team with Toronto locked into second place in the East Division and Edmonton finishing fourth in the West Division.

Tre Ford to start Edmonton Elks regular season finale against Argonauts
By 3Down Staff -October 24, 2024

The Edmonton Elks will start Canadian quarterback Tre Ford for their final game of the regular season on Friday night.

The native of Niagara Falls, Ont. has gone 3-1 as a starter this season, throwing for 812 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions and rushing 15 times for 125 yards. The pending free agent has thrown for 3,332 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 picks over 37 career games as a member of the Elks since being taken in the first round of the 2022 CFL Draft out of the University of Waterloo.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson
will not play against his old team as Jarret Doege and Dakota Prukop dress as Ford's backups. The 36-year-old also didn't dress for the club's recent win over the Calgary Stampeders.

The Elks have made only one change to their starting lineup from two weeks ago as J-Min Pelley is back at defensive tackle, pushing Noah Curtis out to defensive end. Phillip Grohovac, a third-round pick out of Western University last year, will take over at fullback from Jakub Szott.

Edmonton can't finish higher or lower than fourth in the West Division, missing the playoffs for the fourth straight year. The game also has no meaning for the Toronto Argonauts, who are locked into second place in the East Division, as they've elected to start Cameron Dukes at quarterback, giving franchise pivot Chad Kelly a break ahead of the East Semi-Final against the Ottawa Redblacks.

The Edmonton Elks (6-11) will host the Toronto Argonauts (10-7) on Friday, Oct. 25 with kickoff slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT.

From Dave Campbell:

REC Kurleigh Gittens Jr. is out tonight, suffered a chest injury in practice on Thursday. He was listed as a starter yesterday but will not play this evening.  REC Jerminic Smith will start with REC Fredric Antoine coming on the roster

Just a reminder to everyone this game starts while the HAM@OTT game is still going (30 min overlap).

No one watching?  I'm just starting this game now.

EDM looks fired up so far.

TOR looks un-fired up.  I expect MTL will play similarly.  You think your heart is in it but it's not, because why would it be?

Dukes getting destroyed out there at the end of the 1st Q.  First a non-contact knee(?) problem then a low shin tackle to aggravate it -- which is RTP and I can't believe no one flagged it.

Coxie destroyed early in the 2nd doing some weird over-extension splits in mid-air.  That may knock him out of the ESF.  I hope MTL is watching this and contemplating if playing their starters tough against a desperate and hungry Bombers is worth the risk.

Coxie is probably the best of a very weak TOR REC corps.  If he's lost then that'll really hurt TOR.

I won't spoil it for you but it was a crazy ending to the game.

An only in the CFL moment, if you will.

Sorry for my delay... had to go throw both kids in the air for 5 mins.  Not the best idea after that heart attack of a game... seriously gonna have a one for real right now!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO baby!

We have a mandate from God now.  Watch out CFL!!

EDIT: Wrong thread, LOL, got too excited and just posted in the first opened window.  Leaving it here for posterity

It's actually YEAAAAHHHHH BABY! A famous call by radio play by play man Peter Maher on Flames often in 2004 Stanley Cup playoff run! :) Major dramatics often that playoff year for the Flames.

Thanks for not spoiling!  I finished the game 2 hours later and you were right, a fun CFL ending.  Lots of heartbreak for many fanbases this week.

Don't sign onto the forum then until AFTER you fully watched a recorded game. Spoilers impossible not to occur here.

I've gotten quite good at following along with threads from behind by tracking the time on the posts vs PVR.  Scroll down just enough to see the timestamp: don't look before that time passes.

I've been meaning to write a scraping app to do this for me... maybe overlay the PVR with the posts "as they happen".  That would be super cool.  And integrate many different forums' GDTs.
