Redblacks' receiver Jaelon Acklin returns to lineup vs. Ticats
By 3Down Staff -September 13, 2024

Veteran receiver Jaelon Acklin will be back in the Redblacks' lineup on Saturday, three weeks after he was stretchered off the field against the B.C. Lions.

The 29-year-old native of Mountain View, Mo. was injured when he leaped to catch a pass from Dru Brown in the end zone and was hit by veteran defensive back T.J. Lee, causing him to land on his upper back. The momentum of his lower body caused him to flip over onto his stomach where he lay motionless after briefly attempting to stand up.

The six-foot-two, 190-pound target received medical attention for several minutes before being placed on a spineboard and stretcher. He was taken to hospital where he stayed overnight before being released the next day after all tests came back negative.

Acklin is in his fifth CFL season and third as a member of the Redblacks, spending the previous two with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He has made 45 catches for 484 yards and three touchdowns through 10 games so far this season.

Recently acquired running back Jamal Morrow (hamstring) has been placed on the six-game injured list to make room for Acklin, while rookie Eli Stove has been bumped into a depth role and will handle return duties.

Canadian right tackle Zack Pelehos (ankle) has also been moved to the six-game injured list and will be replaced by American Drake Centers. Rounding out the moves is Canadian receiver Keaton Bruggeling coming onto the roster for depth, while American defensive back Bennett Williams goes back to the practice squad.

The Ottawa Redblacks (8-3-1) will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-9) on Saturday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

QB Taylor Powell returns for Ticats, won't start over Bo Levi Mitchell
By 3Down Staff -September 13, 2024

Quarterback Taylor Powell will be back in the lineup for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday, but not as a starter.

Powell has been out of the lineup since suffering a head injury early in the team's Week 11 contest that required a trip to the hospital. It prematurely ended his first start of the season, though he played the majority of the previous game after coming off the bench early to replace veteran Bo Levi Mitchell.

In a little more than a game of action this season, the 25-year-old has completed 38-of-48 passes for 390 yards and two touchdowns, while adding seven carries for 70 yards on the ground. The native of Fayetteville, Ark. started nine games for the Tabbies in 2023, going 4-5 at the helm and completing 197-of-292 pass attempts for 2,283 yards with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a rookie.

Despite that success, Mitchell will retain his starting job after pulling off a Labour Day upset of the Toronto Argonauts two weeks ago. The 34-year-old is currently the CFL's leading passer despite his momentary benching, throwing for 3,383 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 12 games.

Taulia Tagovailoa
will retain the third-string job behind Mitchell and Powell. Fellow rookie Harrison Frost will be a healthy scratch this week.

Elsewhere on the roster, the Ticats have made a switch at returner with Lawrence Woods III drawing into the lineup and Jordan Byrd (knee) going on the one-game injured list. Rookie Canadian defensive end Luke Brubacher will also draw in on special teams, demoting defensive back Patrick Burke Jr. to the practice roster.

Star cornerback Jamal Peters (Achilles) remains on the roster but has been listed as a game-time decision. Canadian Siriman Harrison Bagayogo is the only backup DB currently expected to be dressed.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-9) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (8-3-1) on Saturday, September 14 at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

OTT is starting an OL named CENTERS... and he's not at center, he's a RT!  Talk about a missed opportunity!

And Morrow pulled a Mack... dresses for 1 game and gets put on IR.  What a weird year for injuries.  OTT regretting cutting Armstead yet?  Could this cost them the EDF and cup??

Heads up, there is actually a pregame show for the CTV game.

Thanks!  You saved the day!  And it's on CTV.  So this game gets one but the much-vaunted Banjo Bowl doesn't?  Fail.

They called it something different in the listings so my PVR didn't auto-pick it up.  Had to make a new rule for it.

Rod would actually be entertaining. Knowing nothing about football, other than Transcona had the Nationals for a while.

CTV....whats the point.

Blue In BC

Hamilton is down to the short strokes in regard to their play off chances. They may need to sweep their 2 games against Ottawa and come close to winning out.

I predict a Redblack win though.

Jamal Peters will dress in today's game. Additionally, #27 Jonathan Moxey is now listed as the club's Nationalized American on defence.
