Quote from: J5V on September 02, 2024, 02:32:20 AMStreveler was, I am sure, running the plays he was told to run. What we couldn't afford was a turnover and we were successful. That was an extremely intelligent approach to run to get the win in the end. It chewed clock, resulted in FGs, and turned out to be just enough to help us win in a hostile environment whilst losing our all-star starting QB after one half. Streveler gave us exactly what we needed, a win.

I totally agree with you. What we couldn't afford was a turnover. Thanks for posting that.

Chris Streveler is a warrior and we are lucky to have him. He most certainly can throw. To say he can't is preposterous. Yes he pulled the string on that one to BO out in the flat but lots of QBs have done that. It's a fine touch type of throw that requires a lot of practice. The best QBs in the league can look like dog crap on occasion throwing the ball, that doesn't mean they are no good.
Go Bombers!

Quote from: Sir Blue and Gold on September 02, 2024, 02:32:23 AMHe wasn't being allowed to throw deep? I mean the play he hit Wolitarsky on the in (his deepest pass of the game) he had fly post from his other two receivers. That's basically a home run shot.

You're right though. That might have been the only play call like that of the night.

On the other hand, he's started 6 quarters of football and won two games for us so that's not exactly bad.

Yes, I'm in full agreement.  When they let him loose with a bigger playbook he can be effective.  And if he throws an INT, I'd rather it be on a 50Y attempt than a 7Y attempt.

That Woli pass was in heavy traffic and basically a dart AND dime.
Never go full Rider!

People a little too hard on Strev IMO. I think the play calling strategy didn't help him. I'm not saying it was wrong, but it wasn't exactly conducive to getting him into any rhythm with the passing game. If he starts next week, I'm thinking you'll see a much better passing display from him.

I won't crap too hard on Strev.  He did what I'm assuming he was asked to do.  I'll assume that we kept Zach out because we thought we could defend a 15 point lead, and besides the super soft last drive, we did a fairly good job of that.

That being said, if Zach is actually hurt we need to trade for Massoli ASAP.  I don't think Chris can pull us through the race in the west.

Quote from: markf on September 02, 2024, 02:35:07 AMSince we're quoting authorities... Lapo specifically said during this game broadcast that Streveller can pass.

Ya he only said that so he could brag that he was his coach. Strev can't pass to save his soul, couldn't 5 years ago and sure as heck can't now, he's regressed I'm this aspect of his game because he was a short yardage Qb in the nfl so that's all he ever practiced and it shows

Quote from: TecnoGenius on September 02, 2024, 02:26:46 AMKeep in mind he wasn't being allowed to pass mid/deep.  A) Because Buck doesn't have much faith, and B) we were in "Prevent O", just like we were in Prevent D.

Yes, I agree with everyone that Strev isn't the best passer, but I strongly maintain he can pass enough to win .500, and that is what we have him here for as a $110k backup.

If it's Strev in the BB we need to a) have him throw deep early to open up the D, b) do the run-run option with Brady that worked so well in his last start.
he did win the first win of the season as starting QB

Blitzer

It seems strange that the NFL would even consider him as a backup if he was just a runner. He's an American. He's used to a smaller ball.

Collaros will play in the BB and exact his revenge on the Cryders!!

It's the same size. Has been for like twenty years.

That hit on Zach is driving me crazy.. I don't understand how there was zero recourse.  The second last play of the Riders final TD drive, we had an opportunity to do the exact same thing to Harris, and we pulled up.  If it's 15 yards and a fine, what's to stop teams from head hunting every game.. Hell, they can use media appearance funds to pay back the player!

This has to stop.

We pull Zach because we don't trust the dirty Riders to not pull that crap again....

Quote from: Jesse on September 02, 2024, 02:26:57 AMI have no idea why Strev looks so much worse than he did 5 years ago, but he's not even effective in a third down role, never mind a starting role.

No idea what happened , but it's not good for us
could it be the play calling!?!

I'm still listening to the Riders post game phone-in show on the internet. The Riders forum is my next move. Then a repeat of the Bombers post game show. This is going to be a long night.  ;D
