So, Johnson or Lawler?  Kinda think Lawler has earned the spot if healthy.

Case is the returner, Lucky might be more explosive, but Case "has earned his position on this team".

No did to Johnson, and he could be the next Washington, he's here for a reason.  But he's not on the roster except for injuries, and when those injuries heal, well...

Case may have been a slight improvement over Smith, et al, but he hasn't looked at all dangerous. At best, he catches the ball cleanly and does what he can. Perhaps that's more important than the ability to take it to the house. But I'd have no problem trying Lucky out to see if he's lost a step. We're at the bottom of the league for both KR and PR average, so it can't get much worse (assuming we don't fumble). So I don't think Case has "earned a spot".

Johnson hasn't lit it up. But every time I watch him, he looks like he's a pretty tenacious blocker. So there's that. He could be a poor-man's Rasheed Bailey.

When we activate Lawler, both of them would be a prime candidate for the PR in my opinion.

That's why Johnson is on the roster rather than Case.
I think if they had given Case the opportunity that they gave Johnson, he would have done a better job of making a play on those screens and short routes. But maybe he just isn't as good of a blocker. They do have the same measurables so it's not like Johnson is the big body that can run guys over. I think he's just a really skilled blocker.
Hopefully his receiving reps can go to Whitehead though...

I bet we see Johnson and Whitehead rotate, can't wear out Lucky with too many reps and we need to keep the old man healthy ;)

It sounded like the Bombers did practice yesterday from the MOS news conference. I thought they were only practising starting today.

As usual no specific statement on whether Lawler or Haba will play. OTOH, I think there is a good chance based on the earlier movements of players to the PR.

Adams being moved clears room for Haba on the AR and he practices last week. OTOH, Lawler will just start practising this week. So expected but not definitive yet.

Taking Case out and moving Whitehead to returner and not full time receiver does " suggest" we're adding Lawler IMO.

This is not really a concern, but what happens when Wheatfall is back healthy? Does Whitehead or Johnson come out for him? He played really well in his only showing.

BC Lions:

We have released American quarterbacks Brennan Armstrong and Jake Dolegala from the roster.

Well that certainly means Rourke will be starting. Adams is # 3 this week. There is no chance we see their previously # 3 ( Brice ) starting.

Cutting Dolegala saves some SMS although I don't think he was getting more than maybe $110K-$120K?

From 3DownNation:

13) Jake Dolegala, B.C. Lions (A)

Hard money: $110,800
Maximum value: $172,800

The 27-year-old earned a $15,000 signing bonus when he joined the Lions in free agency along with $82,000 in base salary and $13,800 in housing. He can earn $3,055.55 each time he takes more than half B.C.'s offensive snaps in a regular season game along with $3,000 if he's named a West Division all-star and $4,000 if he's named a CFL all-star.

So he was earning about $25K more than on an ELC as his base salary. With 9 games left the Lions save about $10K for the balance of the season. Not a lot but the signing bonus was already a hit to the SMS cap.

At least he gets a chance to sign elsewhere if a team needs another QB with a little experience. Lots of QB injuries this season with no clear answer on how long a few will be gone ( Brown and Ford to name a couple ).

We knew they had to make a couple moves to fit Rourke's salary into there cap space.

Who cares?
So they are over?
The loss of a first round draft pick?
What happened to the Bombers pick from last year? Is he even on the PR?

So they are over the cap? Not much to sign a future star

Every fan should care if they are over by a large amount. The purpose of the SMS is to create a level playing field. Having a billionaire owner that could abuse that is not a good situation.

Not every team has the financial ability to spend more the than the cap in a substantive way and just pay the fines.

Short practice yesterday and today also. Lawler WILL start. He looked very good. Hungry and healthy. And anyone who thinks Lucky cannot return kicks anymore is in for a surprise. He has not one but two gears more than what Case has shown me so far.  On his second step he's full speed, like a cannon when he sees his opening.
