What a bone headed play by the Ticats procedure call knocks them out of field goal range, you know the snap count, just hold your stance man!! High school blunder

What a bad call, down by contact?? The guy was 3 ft off the ground when the ball came out!!!

Why did they not challenge that???

It's really been extra bad this year.

Good to see there's other teams getting screwed over but still, you just want to get it right,

why didn't command centre step in and correct the obvious wrong call made on the field. Or why couldn't the Als challenge it, Maas knew it was the wrong call, he was livid.  It's just so bush league

The Zipp

Officiating is getting worse as the season goes on.

Was that call not challengeable? I wasn't paying full attention and next thing I know, the Ticats are snapping the ball. Did they actually decide not to challenge?

J5V

You know, there isn't a team in this league that scares me. But I'll tell you this, with our defense, we definitely are putting some fear in the other teams. If we can shore up our Oline and start clicking on offense, we can become the beasts we were the last four or five seasons.

I actually thought that CFL officiating had steadily improved over the last 4-5 years and had gotten pretty good last year. No one's perfect and mistakes will always be made. But the mistakes had become smaller and less frequent. This year - WHAT IS GOING ON???!!!!

I'd love to get a rematch with either the Argos or the Als in a Grey Cup. Als defense is good. But in the West, I'm not seeing another defense like ours. Riders maybe, but the next two games against them will answer a lot of questions.

His numbers are good and he is having a decent year and the suggestion to move away from him is a little much, simple case of pile on during a bad game imo

He bid his time in Calgary behind Henry Burris and the other guy (Tate) who went no place great. Then when he got his chance he shined almost immediately. Lost the GC showdown with Henry, but that was like a miracle game for Burris. Bo probably should have started even before he was official starter.

When you are a WINNER others get jealous! ;) Thought he was washed up prior to this season, but he still has some life yet although on a terrible Cats team. Only a shade above pathetic Edmonton!

Just wait until they cost a team a playoff berth or even worse, a playoff win. Maybe then, finally, this league will do something about this bush league garbage.

Since we are all fans of CFL football it is an embarrassment to all of us. I can't imagine what our neighbours to the South think of that incompetence. Just embarrassing.

It was an outrageous blunder.I thought I heard a comment that the whistle blew the play dead early which negates any recovery after the fact.

That would make it two errors. Geez.

A basic constant of pass interference used to be " any contact the causes an unfair advantage is pass interference."  There used to be stements like " positional advantage" whoever established  the path to the arrival point of the ball can't have it taken away by contact.  The calls against the Bombers were rediculous.  How is the female in the sideline reffing.  She had a play in front of her and there was no flag.  Did she have a deep coverage responsibility?

If she is qualified, like anyone else, and has earned the opportunity I am all for it.  I just wonder how many males with equal or superior skills are ignored, for her benefit.?my she looked very hesitant, passive and un assertive.

the thing is the command center isn't correcting the wrong calls, regardless of who makes them.
And the other factor is regardless of what the rules states, the cfl also dictates to what extent the rules get enforced Holding is one example, screening is another . On the other extreme is rtp being enforces on a touch to the qbs head.(which i think is ridiculas)
the latest Ambrosiaism is that if it can only be determined to be an error by going to slow motion then it isnt an error and shouldn't be overturned. (in part referring to the adage i guess that there must be clear and obvious evidence to overturn on field call)

Quote from: bomb squad on August 03, 2024, 02:02:32 AMNow that I think about more, maybe they can't reverse a "no immediate recovery" ruling. They should be able to though.

It appears to me the ref who was closest and blew it dead realizes just how badly he botched it, and only after a while they came up with the "no immediate recovery" lie explanation.  It was one big poop show.

However, with the Demski-challenge-for-a-loss fiasco we have learned the refs have a superpower to decide in their heads the play is dead and everything after that point doesn't exist (and us plebes might not know about it for a few more seconds as their lips take ages to whistle it dead).  And it's so stupid because everyone can clearly see the important aspects occurring before the whistle sounds!  (In this case the fumble recovery.)

Just like the Demski fiasco, the refs are mandated by rule to never blow their whistle until they are SURE the play is dead.  And just like the Demski fiasco, they botched it baaaaaaaaadly.  And just like the Demski fiasco, this is Proulx's unit (however, it wasn't #22 screwing up this time).

100% command needs to be able to override these mistakes.  And 100% these fast-blowing refs need to be reprimanded and/or fired.  They found a loophole to rig games if they want, and command seemingly can't do anything about it.  I remember some NFL games where a hideously bad call on the field wasn't challengeable but the field refs saw how it was ridiculous and just overturned the call to make things right.  Our refs/command should do the same.

Quote from: bomb squad on August 03, 2024, 01:49:52 AMThat was definitely a time to evoke the "step in" rule. It was an egregiously bad call. As a matter of fact, I think it was the worst call I can ever remember seeing.

After reading all of the command rules, I think the "integrity of the game" rule needs to be invoked more.  If this fumble screwup doesn't destroy the integrity of the game, I don't know what does.

Quote from: pdirks67 on August 03, 2024, 12:47:06 AMI actually thought that CFL officiating had steadily improved over the last 4-5 years and had gotten pretty good last year. You are 100% right.  Refs were getting better.  Command was generally getting things right.  I can't recall anything like the garbage going on this season.  I expect the refs to botch calls but then when teams spend a challenge on them the correct call NEEDS to be made.

Giving teams crap calls and then robbing them of their challenge too adds insult to injury and upsets everyone.  When everyone in the league knows it's wrong, even the team benefiting from the call, you know you're doing a bad job.

I disliked BLM just for always winning for several seasons.  Then he did his "we'll show them what kind of team they are" in our barn.  That's when I switched to hating him because he 100% was cocky to an extreme rarely seen in the CFL.  (And I refuse to accept his attempted retconning excuse -- just CYA lies made up after the fact.)

The ABC (=ABBLM) part of me is very happy he is stinking joints out the last few seasons.  He does get credit at being the master of milking his career for all it's worth though!  And he was good on the TSN panel.  He should hang 'em up and go do that.

The TOR@CGY game had another horrifically horrendous crap DPI call that was challenged and upheld.  Just an atrocious monstrosity of a shambles.

Go back to my thread about this.  Clearly, called DPIs aren't going to be overturned even when everyone can see the standard for DPI was not met by the nothing contact.  Every other year they would overturn, but not this year.  Whatever they think they are doing by changing the standard to overturn, it's not working and everyone is getting mad.

Cody can do ok when he has a great supporting cast.  Once they put McGloster in at RT and their OL was arguably league-best, and he was surrounded by a league top-3 R corps, and had the best D by far, then he could shine.  So would many/most decent vet QBs in that situation.  Remember, Cody has been in the CFL, what, 10 years?

But Cody didn't win that GC.  It was crazy good Ento robbing us of 2 TDs and the final 3rd down Hail Mary sheer-luck completion to league-best Mack that won that game.  And Calvillo.  They out-brained us by a country mile.
