Bombers - Lions

It's early but this is essentially a 4 point game. If we win both teams are 1 - 2 with the Bombers having the advantage. Lose and the Lions are 2 -1 and the Bombers are 0 -3. I'm stating the obvious of course.

Losing Haba and Fox is not good. We may not know for a day or two whether we can expect Nichols and Oliveria to play or whether they will be hampered in their performance.

V. Adams is a QB that likes to go for the chunk play too often and our secondary may be in serious trouble.

If Woods starts in place of Fox that might not be too bad but I'm not sure how Fayad will look playing for Haba. This assumes they will be the ones starting. Fayad does have some CFL experience and USFL as well. We probably see more of Adams with Fayad in rotation.

I'm not convinced the Lions have really established their run game. They may still be missing some starting OL this week. Can we get pressure on Adams while taking away most of the run game?

If we rattle Adams early we can force mistakes. The question will be can we take advantage of those mistakes?

One game at a time.

Glad you are mixing it up and starting the pregame thread...if the Bombers win it's your job going forward..

I need to see a fired up Bombers team and an oline playing aggressive and mean taking over the game and opening some holes for whoever is running the ball.

General execution on plays needs to be better - less penalties.

I don't know the rules on practice hours and days but we played on Thursday so I would have thought they would be practicing today but I guess not.

I'm going to re-integrate what the Bombers said after the game, have to start faster.

I don't think any team has shown to be shoulders above any other teams in the early going. The bombers can be right there if they can clean up a couple things.
My wife is amazing!

Without a run game that can chew the TOP against the Lions and keep VAJ off the field, history says the Lions win.

Can we do this.....If brady is 100% I have faith.....if he is whatever percent he played in week one.....no.....can we do this with JA.....I have real concerns...

I don't want the job going forward. LOL.  Bombers don't usually start the season behind the 8 ball and the Lions are normally my 2nd favourite team. Living in Vancouver I have lots of friends that are Lions fans. I used to be part of a 40 or so person season ticket group.

That seems to have died away once all games are broadcast and everybody has big HD TV's. Going to games has also become very expensive on retirement income etc.

Back to the Lions. I find them arrogant over the top when they score or make a good play. That said they can rack up yardage and points but I don't find them consistent.

At this point I'm just hoping we get a few players back and / or don't lose players like Nichols.

It could get ugly before it gets better.

Mobile QBs always give us fits, let's see if that trend stays under Younger.

Don't expect to win, but if we do, that'll be huge. Hopefully this team shows some level of improvement.

How do you start faster?

Tough if you are talent deficient due to injuries and new players

Tough if your o-line play like turnstiles

Tough if your QB seems to have three yips and can't make throws consistently

Tough if you can't seem to properly run any play that has misdirection in the backfield

Bombers look like Rocky after winning - teams are fired up to play them and they think that they can just show up and be competitive

Way overstated on the negative imo.

Yes we are injured and that's a concern, yes we have new faces who will learn through experience and making mistakes.  Our O-line hasn't played great yes but you are being pretty harsh.  We had two significant changes and that will bring growing pains.  We were spoiled with an exceptional OL for a very long time.  Give this unit a chance before we are over critical.  Zach has looked not great but he can overcome this, way to critical here, imo.  Our run game will be fine.  Brady had one game and was nicked up.  One game with Johnny isn't enough to judge much.  I trust both backs 100%.  I trust the OL will improve in opening holes for our backs.  If Brady can't be 100% healthy by mid season I will be worried.

Too early to state many of these things with the tone you have presented.  Your post comes off panicky.  Deep breath, it's week 3.  We have some issues yes but not as bad as you are making out imo.

You start faster by executing better, better play calling, better prep and by doing things your opponent doesn't expect.

The first possessions by the bombers could mean a lot, if Zac is able to gain some confidence off the hop it could set the tone for the game.
I'm also hoping that buck is game planning for the Lions ,(vs just playing bomber football) some things id like to see:
1.The stamps had some success with crossing patterns and short outs. Having watched our first two games you know BC is going to bring a lot of pressure. The mid to long passes aren't going to be there very much.
2. Utilizing screens to offset rush
3. Be overall more creative in the running game, including utilizing Streveler. Why when its 2nd and inches we don't take advantage of the free play is beyond me
4. I'm hoping Josh Johnson gets in, we could use his quickness much like McCrae last year. With Shoen looking like he's got some sort of issue (he's not getting that burst off the line, or separation) we don't have very much speed. Wilson hasn't added anything.
Defensively take advantage of BC's oline, bring pressure from different spots, making sure the ends are keeping containment. I'd like to see Alexander take a deeper drop. Adams loves to go deep when he gets a bit of time.

Agree on getting pressure on VA, need to expose their OL.

Agree on crossing patterns.

Agree #3.  I think establishing the run game early will be key.

Agree on  hot start and confidence.

That's all we need to lose those 3. It wasn't clear if Oliveria would be available even only being on 1 game IR. Nichols and schoen played last week.

Holy crap if schoen is out we just went from bad to worse!!

Blue In BC

The daily IR report shows K. Wilson as DNP with an ankle issue. Nichols has a shoulder problem. Schoen is a hip same issue late last year? Oliveria is a knee.

It's a 3 practice week so we'll see how things change. We may see some or all able to play or none!!!

SHEEESH!!!!

Ya, 2-4 days off, then 15 mins of practice and off to Sev for slurpees.  That seems to be the M.O. these days...

I kid... or do I?  Someone needs to light some fires under their collective butts!  A little grief might help them.
