Blue Bombers Transactions - June 9, 2024

WINNIPEG, MB., June 9, 2024 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has added National fullback/linebacker Bailey Feltmate and American linebacker Tony Jones to the practice roster.

Feltmate (6-2, 240, Acadia; born: January 22, 1998, in Moncton, NB) joins the Bombers after being a late-camp release from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Feltmate appeared in 31 games from 2016 to 2020 at Acadia before being selected in the second round, 17th overall by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2020 CFL Draft. He spent the past three CFL seasons (2021-2023) with the Tiger-Cats, recording 35 special teams tackles and four defensive tackles in 43 games.

Jones (6-2, 235, Texas Tech; born: August 5, 1995, in Casselberry, FL) signs with the Bombers after a release from the Edmonton Elks. Jones has 20 games of CFL experience, including dressing for all 18 games with the Elks in 2023, starting in five of them. He recorded 41 defensive tackles, 11 special teams tackles, one forced fumble and one sack last season.

Jones had a four-year collegiate career split between Butler Community College (NJCAA) (2015-2016) and Texas Tech (2017-2018). Jones appeared in 24 Division 1 games, starting in five of them, recording one interception, 77 total tackles, 14 tackle-for-losses, three knockdowns, three fumble recoveries, and eight sacks.

Jones saw action in the Indoor Football League (IFL) for the Iowa Barnstormers (2021), ending the season on the First team All-IFL, All-Rookie Team, and was awarded Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The team has also released American Jeremiah Gemmel from the practice roster.

Both of these players are pretty good on ST's.  Jones also started some games in 2023 for the Elks. All in all not bad acquisitions.

I could see both being added to the AR as early as this week.

Never heard of either one, looks like a couple of ST players with a dollop of experience.  Someone was complaining they never pick up cuts from other teams?  They do, but it's usually for the bottom half of the roster.

I have actually heard of both. Check out their stats. Just a guess that Jones could bump Ayers to the PR. Not quite sure who Feltmate would bump but he could be another FB to use at times as well as an ST cover guy. If I have to guess I think Charbonneau would be moved to PR as a development player.

Feltmate is a bigger body type which may be useful.

Good try Bombers
Hey Danny how's the south?

All those UFL players finishing their season.....maybe. Bring up a couple little guys for punt and kick off return, or for a deep threat receiver.

I am still burning that we didn't pickup Sankey when we had the chance. Blue chip MLB and ours was hurt and aging and we gassed that one.

The recent signings are like you say, bottom of the roster additions, but we need good foot solders on special teams and our ST need help for sure.

Tony Jones has good size for a MLB. 20 CFL games under his belt. 20 games, 43 DT, 13 ST, 1 sack, 1 FF.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

He's probably coming on as a linebacker.  Hamilton made a mistake converting him to fullback.

Both good pick-ups.....Feltmate was a surprise 'let-go' from Ham....I thought he retired and was on that list......Jones is solid and proves to me we need help on ST's....pretty good MLB as well...

the fact the Karamoko took so many reps in game 1 might have been an indicator of the quality of backup linebackers. What I like about Tony Jones is he can spell off Biggy without having to flip flop the other positions.

More help at LBer and STs coverage is greatly welcomed.

You keep forgetting there is a salary cap. He probably wanted decent coin even for the end of the season if not another big contract following that. This is not as easy as musical chairs, many things taken into consideration. If was no CFL Salary cap, sure go wild, but that's not the reality.
