BLUE BOMBERS SIGN OHIO STATE ALL-TIME RECEPTIONS LEADER K.J. HILL

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American receiver K.J. Hill.

Hill (6-0, 196; Ohio State, September 15, 1997, in Little Rock, AR) was selected with the 220th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers.

He appeared in 50 career games for the Buckeyes and set the school's all-time receptions record with 201 — previously held by David Boston. Hill recorded a reception in 48 straight games (tying a school record), also tallying 2,332 career receiving yards (7th all-time in school history) and 20 touchdowns, including ten as a senior in 2019.

Hill, a co-captain as a senior, won three consecutive Big Ten championships with Ohio State from 2017-2019.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign wide receiver Josh Johnson

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receiver Josh Johnson on Thursday.

Josh Johnson is five foot eleven and weighs 181 pounds. The 24-year-old from Little Rock, Arkansas, made two catches for 13 yards in four games for the Birmingham Stallions (USFL) in 2023. In the playoffs, Johnson made three catches for 61 yards, and one touchdown helping the Stallions win their second USFL Championship over the Pittsburgh Maulers. The Stallions signed Johnson as a free agent on April 25, 2023.

Before Birmingham, Johnson signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent on May 13, 2022, and spent most of the season on the practice squad before he was released on November 29, 2022.

Collegiately, Johnson played two seasons at Iowa State (2017-18) making one catch for 11 yards in 12 games for the Cyclones. Then, Johnson transferred to Tulsa (2019-21) making 165 catches for 2,108 yards, 13 touchdowns, four carries for one yard, one kick return for 31 yards, and two tackles (1 solo, 1 assist) in 34 games for the Golden Hurricanes.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign wide receiver Jaylen Hall

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receiver Jaylen Hall on Friday.

Jaylen Hall is six foot three and weighs 180 pounds. The 24-year-old from Macomb, Michigan, was on the Edmonton Elks practice squad in 2023. The Elks signed Hall as a free agent on July 16, 2023, before he was released three days later. Before Edmonton, Hall attended a rookie minicamp with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Collegiately, Hall played four seasons at Western Michigan (2018-21) with 85 catches for 1,532 yards and 14 touchdowns in 43 games for the Broncos. In 2020, Hall finished second on the team in receiving TDs (7), trailing only 2021 NFL Draft second-round pick D'Wayne Eskridge's eight. 

Then, Hall transferred to Western Kentucky in 2022 making 53 catches for 759 yards, six touchdowns, two carries for 19 yards, nine punt returns for 106 yards, and one touchdown in 11 games for the Hilltoppers. Hall recorded over 100 yards receiving in three of four games to end the season including a season-high 138 yards and a touchdown in WKU's R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Championship.

Blue Bombers add two receivers to roster


WINNIPEG, MB., March 10, 2024 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American receivers Josh Johnson and Jaylen Hall.

Johnson (5-11, 181; Tulsa, born: August 10, 1999, in Little Rock, AR) most recently spent time with Birmingham of the USFL, making two catches for 13 yards in four games, while adding three catches for 61 yards and one touchdown in the playoffs, helping the Stallions win their second USFL Championship. In 2022, Johnson spent most of the season on the Detroit Lions' practice squad.

Johnson split his collegiate career between Iowa State and Tulsa, transferring to Tulsa for the 2019 season. He made 165 catches for 2,108 yards, 13 touchdowns 34 games for the Golden Hurricanes

Hall (6-3, 180; Western Kentucky; born: March 31, 1999, in Macomb, MI) transferred to Western Kentucky for the 2022 season, appearing in 14 games and recording 68 receptions for 869 yards and six touchdowns. Hall previously played at Western Michigan from 2018-2021, totalling 85 catches for 1,532 yards and 14 touchdowns in 43 career games for the Broncos.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign WR Isaiah Coulter and DB James Campbell

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receiver Isaiah Coulter and defensive back James Campbell on Monday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Isaiah Coulter is six foot three and weighs 190 pounds. The 25-year-old from Columbia, Maryland, signed with the D.C. Defenders (UFL) on March 6, 2024, but was released on March 10, 2024. Before D.C., Coulter appeared in one preseason game for the Buffalo Bills in 2023 recording no stats. It was his second stint with Buffalo.

The Houston Texans drafted Coulter in the fifth round (171st pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He appeared in one regular season game recording no stats and spent the rest of the season on the practice squad. Next, Coulter signed with the Chicago Bears in 2021. He appeared in three regular season games targeted one time. Coulter also spent time with the Arizona Cardinals.

Collegiately, Coulter played three seasons at Rhode Island (2017-19) making 132 catches for 1,855 yards, 12 touchdowns, four carries for eight yards, and one kick return for five yards in 34 games for the Rams. He was named Second Team All-CAA in 2019 and had seven career 100-yard receiving games.

James Campbell is five foot eleven and weighs 183 pounds. The 25-year-old from Palatka, Florida, signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023, but was released on July 25, 2023.

Collegiately, Campbell played five seasons at Montana State (2017-22) with 64 tackles (49 solo, 15 assists), two tackles for loss, two interceptions for 16 yards, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 41 games for the Bobcats. In his senior season, Campbell made 34 tackles (23 solo, 11 assists), one tackle for loss, two interceptions for 16 yards, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 14 games helping the Bobcats win the Big Sky Championship.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign defensive back Anthony Witherstone

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed defensive back Anthony Witherstone on Tuesday according to the CFL Transaction page.

Anthony Witherstone
is six foot two and weighs 193 pounds. The 24-year-old from Warwick, Rhode Island, made one tackle (1 solo) in one preseason game for the Kansas City Chiefs against the New Orleans Saints in 2023.

The Chiefs signed Witherstone as an undrafted free agent on May 8, 2023, but was waived from injured reserve on August 21, 2023. Then, Witherstone was drafted by the St. Louis Battlehawks (XFL) in the 2023 XFL Rookie Draft.

Collegiately, Witherstone played six seasons at Merrimack University (2017-22) with 74 tackles (55 solo, 19 assists), two tackles for loss, four interceptions for 59 yards, two touchdowns, 19 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 35 games for the Warriors.

BLUE BOMBERS ADD THREE TO ROSTER

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American wide receiver Isaiah Coulter, and American defensive backs James Campbell and Anthony Witherstone.

Coulter (6-2, 200; Rhode Island, born: September 18, 1998, in Columbia,  MD) was originally selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round (171st pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft. He appeared in one regular season game for Houston before playing three games for the Chicago Bears in 2021.   Collegiately, Coulter played three seasons at Rhode Island, making 132 catches for 1,855 yards and recording 12 touchdowns. He was named Second Team All-CAA in 2019 and had seven career 100-yard receiving games.

Campbell (6-1, 180; Montana State; born: January 17, 1999, in Palatka, FL) played five seasons at Montana State, recording 64 tackles (49 solo, 15 assists), two tackles for loss, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 41 games for the Bobcats. In his senior season, Campbell registered 34 tackles (23 solo, 11 assists), one tackle for loss, two interceptions, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 14 games, helping Montana State win the Big Sky Championship.

Witherstone (6-0, 190; Merrimack, born: November 27, 1999 in Warwick, RI) spent the 2023 preseason with the Kansas City Chiefs, making one defensive tackle in his only game prior to being injured. He played six seasons at Merrimack, recording 74 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions, two touchdowns, 19 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 35 games.
