Game 7:

Derek Taylor  @DTonOB
Bombers roster for Friday in Sask:
TyJuan Garbutt right into starting coming off 6-game (ankle).
Kody Case replaces Chris Smith on returns.
LB Tony Jones makes his Bombers debut.
And Noah Hallett is back off 6-game as well.

Two fewer options on O with Mitchell, Chris-Ike and Smith coming off and Case going on. But Mitchell only played a couple of snaps last week and Feltmate can take FB reps.

Darrin Bauming  @DarrinBauming
Winnipeg starting third different returner this season—Case now healthy.

TyJuan Garbutt makes his 2024 debut (preseason injury).

Noah Hallett is another noteable making his 2024 debut. He's had an injury-riddled start to his pro career since #Bombers drafted him No. 18 in 2020.

#Riders are without our old friend Jermarcus Hardrick

Injured last week, his season is in jeopardy — will undergo surgery to repair a torn quadriceps.
Rookie Jacob Brammer takes his spot at right tackle.

Ed Tait   @EdTaitWFC
The @Wpg_BlueBombers make four roster changes for tomorrow's game in Regina. On are DE TyJuan Garbutt, WR/KR Kody Case, DB Noah Hallett and LB Tony Jones. off are WR Myron Mitchell, FB Michael Chris-Ike, KR/RB Chris Smith and DE/LBN Lucky Ogbevoen, who was moved to six-game injured list

Taylor Allen   @TaylorAllen31
Here's how the #Bombers will look tomorrow vs. the Riders.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers' DL TyJuan Garbutt to make first career start vs. Riders
By John Hodge -July 18, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will have defensive lineman TyJuan Garbutt in the starting lineup when they visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night.

The six-foot-two, 261-pound native of Fredericksburg, Va. spent most of last season on the practice roster but dressed for one game, making one tackle. He recently completed a stint on Winnipeg's six-game injured list while Celestin Haba, Devin Adams, Ali Fayad, and Owen Hubert took turns starting at defensive end opposite Willie Jefferson.

Garbutt played 49 collegiate games at Virginia Tech where he made 36 starts, 121 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two pass knockdowns. Winnipeg's pass rush has had a relatively slow start to the season, recording seven sacks over six games.

Kody Case has taken over from Chris Smith at kick returner in what will be his first career CFL game. The five-foot-ten, 182-pound speedster had a stint with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023 after going undrafted following his final collegiate season at the University of Illinois. He previously played at the University of South Dakota where he caught 82 passes for 1,157 yards and nine touchdowns in 32 games.

Tony Jones
will also make his Blue Bombers debut in a depth role at linebacker. The Texas Tech product was in training camp with the Edmonton Elks but was released as part of final roster cuts after making 41 defensive tackles, 11 special teams tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble with the Elks last year. He's been on Winnipeg's practice roster since.

Canadian defensive back Noah Hallett will see the field for the first time since 2022 in a depth role at safety. The native of London, Ont. and the younger brother of veteran defensive back Nick Hallett has played only 11 games due to injury since being selected in the second round of the 2020 CFL Draft out of McMaster University.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-4) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-1) on Friday, July 19 with kickoff slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT.

Riders tap rookie Jacob Brammer to replace injured Jermarcus Hardrick
By 3Down Staff -July 18, 2024

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have found their replacement for Jermarcus Hardrick at right tackle.

With Hardrick (knee) headed to the six-game injured list and likely to undergo surgery, the team will turn to Jacob Brammer to potentially hold down the fort for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old will make his first career appearance on Friday against Winnipeg.

Brammer wrapped up his collegiate career in 2022 with the University of Vanderbilt, where he recorded 11 starts at right tackle and allowed just three sacks. The six-foot-four, 301-pound blocker previously spent four seasons at the University of North Texas, starting 35 of the 38 games he played.

The native of Richmond, Tex. played a whopping 3,451 offensive snaps over the course of his college career and surrendered just 10 sacks. He was a second-team All-Conference USA honouree in 2020 and an honourable mention in 2021.

The Riders will get a small boost on the other side of the line, as starting defensive end Malik Carney returns to the lineup after missing last week with a knee injury. The 28-year-old has five tackles in four games since coming over in free agency from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and will bump linebacker Zakoby McClain back to the practice roster.

In addition to Hardrick, Saskatchewan is still missing quarterback Trevor Harris, fullback Bruno Labelle, receiver Dhel Duncan-Busby, offensive linemen Noah Zerr and Philip Blake, defensive linemen Christian Albright and Charbel Dabire, and linebacker Nick Wiebe to the six-game injured list. Defensive end Nicholas Dheilly (shoulder) remains on the one-game injured list, while defensive back Amari Henderson is a healthy scratch.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (4-1) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-4) on Friday, July 19 at 9:30 p.m. EDT.

BLUE BOMBERS ADD DEFENSIVE BACK AARON GRYMES TO PRACTICE ROSTER
July 23 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed veteran American defensive back Aaron Grymes to the practice roster.

Grymes (5-11, 186, Idaho; born: March 1, 1991, in Seattle, WA.) joins the Blue Bombers to extend a Canadian Football League career that includes 95 regular-season games played with the Edmonton Eskimos/Elks and the B.C. Lions over seven seasons. He has missed the last two seasons due to a knee injury and was released by the Elks in January.

Grymes began his CFL career with Edmonton in 2013 and was part of the club's Grey Cup championship in 2015, a year in which he was also named a West Division and CFL All Star.

He left for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2016 and played one game for the club before being waived in 2017. He rejoined Edmonton that season and played there through 2018 before signing with the Lions in 2019. Then signed again with Edmonton in 2021.

Grymes posted his best numbers in 2018 in Edmonton, registering 58 tackles, adding three interceptions and a forced fumble. Through his entire CFL career he has 294 tackles, 19 more on special teams, one sack, 13 interceptions, two forced fumbles and one touchdown.

Prior to turning pro, Grymes played in 50 games at Idaho, with 32 of them starts. In his final season with the Vandals, he started all 12 games and was voted a team captain.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign longtime Edmonton Elks' DB Aaron Grymes

By John Hodge -July 23, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed veteran defensive back Aaron Grymes to the practice roster.

The 33-year-old native of Seattle, Wa. had three different stints with the Edmonton Elks between 2013 and 2023, recording 240 defensive tackles, 19 special teams tackles, 12 interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one sack over 79 games. He was a key part of the team's Grey Cup run in 2015 when he was named a CFL all-star, which led to a year-long NFL stint with the Philadelphia Eagles the following season.

The five-foot-eleven, 186-pound defender was also a member of the B.C. Lions in 2019 when he recorded 54 defensive tackles and one interception.

The University of Idaho product hasn't appeared in a regular season CFL game since 2021 as he missed the past two years with a knee injury. Through 95 total career games, Grymes has made 294 defensive tackles, 19 special teams tackles, 13 interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one sack.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-5) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (3-3) on Saturday, July 27 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Game 8:

Derek Taylor  @DTonOB
Bombers roster for Saturday vs the Argos. No Kyrie Wilson for the first time this season. Tony Jones moves into the starting LB spot in his 2nd Bombers appearance.
And no FB with Bailey Feltmate going to 6-game IL

Interesting note:
Bombers Kenny Lawler starts a second stint on the 6-game injured list. The Bombers can pull him off at any time without penalty since it's his second stint.
They're only able to do that twice in a season though. Something to watch with guys like Fox, Wheatfall

Darrin Bauming  @DarrinBauming
Good note from DT.

Also recently beginning their second stretch on the 6GIL are preseason-projected starters:
DL Cameron Lawson
DB Jamal Parker

LB/DB Brian Cole and rookie RB Michael Chris-Ike have also been placed on the 6GIL this week.

The @Wpg_BlueBombers have made three changes to the lineup for tomorrow. On are DBs Marquise Bridges and Tyrique McGhee and LB Max Charbonneau. Off are LB Kyrie Wilson, FB Bailey Feltmate and DB/LB Brian Cole. Wilson, Feltmate and Cole, unfortunately, moved to the six-game injured list.

Tony Jones to make first start for Winnipeg Blue Bombers against Argonauts
By John Hodge -July 26, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have made a change to their linebacking corps with Kyrie Wilson hitting the six-game injured list.

Tony Jones, who made his Winnipeg debut last week in a depth role, will start in Wilson's place at weak-side linebacker. The six-foot-two, 235-pound native of Casselberry, Fla. made one special teams tackle in a 19-9 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Jones spent the first two seasons of his CFL career with the Edmonton Elks, making 43 defensive tackles, 13 special teams tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble over 19 games. He was cut by the team after training camp and joined Winnipeg's practice roster shortly thereafter.

Wilson suffered a shoulder injury in last week's loss to Saskatchewan. He has made 28 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble over seven starts at weak-side linebacker this season, a role he's held on and off since 2017, as part of 161 defensive tackles, 15 special teams tackles, six sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble in his career.

The Blue Bombers have also added fullback Bailey Feltmate (elbow) and linebacker Brian Cole (foot) to the six-game injured list, which now features 12 players.

Canadian linebacker Max Charbonneau has been promoted from the practice roster, as have American defensive backs Tyrique McGhee and Marquise Bridges. Charbonneau played the team's first two games of the season and made one special teams tackle, while Bridges started at boundary halfback against the B.C. Lions on June 21 while Deatrick Nichols was out due to injury.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-5) will visit the Toronto Argonauts (3-3) on Saturday, July 27 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Argos keep Cameron Dukes starting QB vs. Bombers, Nick Arbuckle expected to see reps

By 3Down Staff -July 26, 2024

Cameron Dukes has maintained his position as starting quarterback for the Toronto Argonauts ahead of their Week 8 matchup with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The 25-year-old pivot has completed 116-of-160 passes for 1,184 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions through six games while rushing for 198 yards and two scores, going 3-3 as the starter. However, the second-year pivot has been pulled in all three of the team's losses, including giving way to Nick Arbuckle in last week's upset loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The Argos split reps between the two quarterbacks in practice this week and did not decide on a starter until Friday. While Dukes will get the nod, head coach Ryan Dinwiddie told the media on Thursday that both players are expected to see game-time "at some stage," after Arbuckle threw for 118 yards, a touchdown, and a pick in a quarter of relief action.

Toronto continues to await word on the status of suspended star Chad Kelly, who has three games remaining before the earliest possible return date from suspension.

Offensively, the two quarterbacks will get to throw to a pair of starting Canadian receivers this week, as David Ungerer III returns from injury and slots in alongside Richie Sindani following the surprise release of American Rasheed Bailey. 2024 first-round CFL Draft pick Kevin Mital, the 2022 Hec Crighton Trophy winner, will make his CFL debut in a depth role after being injured in the preseason.

On the other side of the ball, underrated American defensive tackle Jared Brinkman (ankle) and National cornerback Jonathan Edouard (elbow) have both been placed on the six-game injured list.

Ralph Holley will get the start along the defensive interior with newly signed veteran Woody Baron dressing as part of the rotation. Canadian defensive end Daniel Joseph has been moved to the practice roster.

Tarvarus McFadden returns to the team to start at his old field corner spot. Mason Pierce will start at boundary halfback in place of the released Amani Dennis and will be backed up by Mark Milton.

The Toronto Argonauts (3-3) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-5) on Saturday, July 27 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Game 9:

Derek Taylor  @DTonOB
Bombers roster for Thursday: Lucky Whitehead takes Drew Wolitarsky's spot in the lineup.
And Bombers go 3 🇺🇸 on the OL with Kendall Randolph filling in for Pat Neufeld (6-game).

Neufeld and Wolitarsky both move to 6-game. Wally was moving very slowly and carefully when we saw him yesterday.
Interesting that DE Celestin Haba is moved to 1-game after his 6-game stint. I'm
assuming the Bombers think he can return after his Week 1 knee injury.

Ed Tait   @EdTaitWFC
The @Wpg_BlueBombers depth chart this week features four changes: On are WR Lucky Whitehead, OL Kendall Randolph, DB Jake Kelly and LB Soulymane Karamoko. Off are WR Drew Wolitarsky, OL Pat Neufeld and DBs Tyrique McGhee and Marquise Bridges.
Wolitarsky and Neufeld have both been moved to the six-game injured list.

Jeff Hamilton   @jeffkhamilton
Bombers depth chart and roster ahead of Thursday's Week 9 home. matchup against the B.C. Lions.

Lucky Whitehead draws in for an injured Drew Wolitarsky. Patrick Neufeld also out, with Kendall Randolph taking his spot at right guard.

Bombers 2-6, Lions 5-2 coming off the bye.

Bob Irving   @BobIrvingCJOB
With Pat Neufeld and Drew Wolitarsky going on the 6-game injured list, The Bombers now have a staggering 13 players on 6-game, 10 of whom would definitely be on the roster if healthy.

He's back: Lucky Whitehead to start for Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs. B.C. Lions
By 3Down Staff -July 31, 2024

Veteran receiver Lucky Whitehead will make his 2024 debut on Thursday night when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the B.C. Lions, starting at boundary slotback.

The 32-year-old signed with the Blue Bombers earlier this month and has spent the past three weeks on the practice roster. This is his second stint with Winnipeg, having made 52 catches for 521 yards and two touchdowns, nine carries for 92 yards and one touchdown, 20 kickoff returns for 596 yards and one touchdown, seven punt returns for 54 yards, and two missed field goal returns for 62 yards with the Blue Bombers as a CFL rookie in 2019, helping them end a long Grey Cup drought.

Whitehead spent the past three seasons with the B.C. Lions, making 196 receptions for 2,671 yards and 10 touchdowns, 26 punt returns for 216 yards and one touchdown, and four missed field goal returns for 171 yards and one touchdown. In total, the Florida Atlantic product has made 248 catches for 3,192 yards and 12 touchdowns, 15 carries for 118 yards and one touchdown, 30 punt returns for 270 yards and one touchdown, 21 kickoff returns for 596 yards and one touchdown, and six missed field goal returns for 233 yards and one touchdown over 60 career CFL games. He was named a league all-star in 2021.

The speedster will start in place of Drew Wolitarsky, who has been added to the six-game injured list due to a shoulder injury. The seven-year veteran caught 26 passes for 326 yards and one touchdown over eight games to start the season.

Veteran offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld has also been added to the six-game injured list due to a knee problem. He will be replaced at right guard by Kendall Randolph, who will make his first career CFL start. The University of Alabama product spent the first eight weeks of the season on the practice roster.

American defensive backs Tyrique McGhee and Marquise Bridges, both of whom dressed in depth roles last week, have been moved to the practice roster. Canadian defensive back Jake Kelly, a second-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft out of Bishop's University, has been added back to the active roster along with Global linebacker Souleymane Karamoko. Kelly made two defensive tackles, six special teams tackles, and one forced fumble over 10 games last season.

The Blue Bombers now have a league-high 13 players on the six-game injured list, including star receivers Kenny Lawler and Dalton Schoen.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-6) will host the B.C. Lions (5-2) on Thursday, Aug. 1 with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT.

Keon Hatcher returns to starting lineup for B.C. Lions vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers
By 3Down Staff -July 31, 2024

Veteran receiver Keon Hatcher will make his return to the B.C. Lions' starting lineup when the team visits the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday night.

The 29-year-old native of Tulsa, Okla. suffered a torn Achilles during last year's West Final and missed B.C.'s first seven games of the 2024 regular season. He made a long-term commitment to the Lions this past off-season despite the injury, signing a three-year contract extension in Vancouver.

The six-foot-one, 212-pound target made 78 receptions for 1,266 yards and six touchdowns over 14 regular season games in 2023 and was named a CFL all-star. In total, Hatcher has made 165 catches for 2,483 yards and 13 touchdowns over 42 career games with the Lions.

Veteran offensive lineman Michael Couture has returned from injury to start at centre, pushing Tyler Packer to left guard. B.C. has also shaken up its secondary as Cristophe Beaulieu, a third-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft out of Laval Université, will make his first career start at safety with Adrian Greene moving to field-side halfback.

David Knevel and Nathan Cherry have returned from the six-game injured list and will dress in depth roles in the trenches, while defensive back Ronald Kent Jr. has been moved to the practice roster after starting the club's last four games.

The B.C. Lions (5-2) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-6) on Thursday, Aug. 1 with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT.
