O'Shea will need to find way to keep his team focused on the elks and not thinking about the Lions or the Argos, Even on this forum most of the discussions are about argos/agudosi. who we should rest and when, etc
Lets just go out and beat the elks first then worry about the rest of the season.

With EDM officially eliminated (I think??) by the time we play them, won't Jones go back into "pre-season tryout" mode bringing in every PR guy under the sun?  He has to think about his job next year (assuming there is one for him....).

We should easily beat EDM in their "best-starters" mode, let alone EDM in their "backup tryouts" mode...

With BC beating HAM, and CGY beating SSK, we really have the worst, if predictable, outcomes possible this week.

BC is going to cream sad-sack CGY @BCPlace next week (after seeing the mess of a CGY game tonight), keeping BC in the hunt for 1st.  And with the CGY loss next week they will play their absolute best ball vs us in the final game in order to squeak into the playoffs.  (SSK won't win vs TOR 3rd stringers.)

So it is imperative we beat EDM @IGF next week, IMPERATIVE, so that we can secure the final week as a "bye" *and* the WSF week after as a bye.  If we fail to beat EDM then we have to play our guts out in CGY against a team playing their guts out (so no last week "bye") AND we're not guaranteed to win meaning we might also lose the "WSF bye"!!

In other words, either we beat EDM or we lose 1 of the 2 byes (bad), or both byes (disaster).  We all know how WPG plays down to the opponent's level... and EDM is the last place W team, though doing better lately, AND EDM found ways to attack us last game for 3 Q's... so we need to come out hard and play with at least the intensity we showed vs BC.

Good thing it looks like it'll be a near sellout for this late-Oct final (reg-season) home game!  We'll need to bring the noise like we did vs TOR.

If we sleep at home against Edm, we don't deserve first. I don't think we will though. We come back from the bye weak rested and there is a possibility that Jones goes back to his mad scientist ways and "tries" things seemingly for it's own sake. The game is meaningless to them.

That's about the size of it. We need to lock up 1st place with a win against the Elks. I'm not sure what to think about the Stamps playing against either the Lions or the Bombers.

It will be a few days at least to find out whether VAJ will be able to play or how long he might be out.

Somewhat of a downside is that we won't be able to change our roster much before we play the Elks. The Lions play a day earlier and if they win, then we're in a need to win kind of situation. The best outcome we might have is that we win and can tinker with using PR players for our last game.

The problem is the longer time off before the WDF if vets don't see work in the last game?

Ya, sometimes the removal of the "must win to make playoffs" pressure can make a bad team suddenly good.  However, the individual "must show well or be cut" pressure will be amped up.

EDM can probably play loose and "for fun", whereas we'll be all business.  The pressure is on us, not them.

I guess the one "good" thing about VAJ getting injured is now BC has a chance to lose vs CGY next week.  That would be the ideal scenario.  Personally, I really want to see Dru get 1 or 2 more starts.

What a crazy stat.  At least the city is supporting the club by buying up so many more tickets each game than normal.  Never seen such big crowds so late in the season.  The EDM game will probably be sold out.

Didn't we lose another 1 or 2 in garbage-season time with backups playing?  Not like they matter, nor should they be included.

Looking forward to practice this week. Looks like some pretty nice fall weather. Interested to see who is on the field for day one. Apparently DS83 is a little banged up with a shoulder and now a leg injury. Will Houston be back this week. How is Parker feeling after a week off. Will Gauthier and Darby put on pads this week.

Yeah those are the questions. I'm not too concerned about Schoen. He has a LB mentality and I expect him to play. It might have been different if the Lions had lost and 1st place was locked up. Even if they lose their last game on Oct 20 I'm not sure we will re-tool the roster with PR players and rest some vets. However the game against the Elks is at home the next day, so we might make some changes like sitting anyone needing an extra week.

I just don't know how Edmonton will approach this game. I'm hoping Chris Jones will be at his pragmatic best and not in a foul mood although if his club is badly embarrassed it could get ugly. Edmonton will be in full spoiler mode much like Ottawa was against Toronto last night. The difference will be we will attempt to establish the fact that we are the better team without bullying the Elks like the Argos did with the RBs.

I think Jones will play it pretty straight. I didn't realize until this year that Jones and MOS are friends, having worked together in TO. He calls him Jonesy on the coaches show. Seems to be a lot of respect there. And then there was the time he just gave us Matt Nichols. Possibly that saved O'Shea's job. We only had an injured Drew Willy, Marve and Brohm. We had done a lot of losing up until that time. You want Nichols for a conditional 7th round pick? Um, yes I do.

I am more curious how the Blue Bombers play it if the Stamps beat the Lions Friday?
