Haven't listened to a radio since 1984 (go 13 CFRW!), sorry.  Well, except CJOB for Bomber stuff, of course.  Couldn't name a Green Day song at all, though I'm sure I heard some in the background at a bar somewhere in the 90's.

Not liking "pop" music doesn't make one an idiot.  Some could argue the opposite, with "least common denominator" creation & marketing.

The league is more concerned about attracting a target demographic to watch the game on TV, not catering to those that might be there in person.

Ah yes, that explains it.  You're right, it should be a good TV draw.  I knew it didn't really feel right as a fit for the in-person HAM fans.  I still peg them mostly as "bangers", as we used to say.  But at least they're not targeting the 13 year old girl demo with the Green Day pick, like they've done in the past (Bieber anyone)?  The late gen-X / early-millennial targeting is a more realistic goal.

Then I'm older than you!  I couldn't name a Green Day song if my life depended on it.

While I may not like it, I must admit it's not the worst pick, as it'll have the 90's kids demo excited.  And it is a bigger "name" than last year.

I wonder, though, if it's a good match for the HAM demo?  Although I guess the crowd will be more TOR people than HAM people.  It'll be a harder game for WPG people to make.  Maybe TOR people are more into this style of music.

If it was just HAM fans, I'd think some heavy metal band would be more appreciated.
Actually, it's a brilliant pick for Hamilton. Not being from here, you may not know this, but Hamilton has deep roots in the punk genre, with our biggest act being Teenage Head, Simply Saucer, and Forgotten Rebels being popular with punk fans in the 70s and 80s and the genres popularity in the Hammer still continues to this day. Punk is probably bigger here then metal ever will be.

It will draw fans and while I don't like the band, we'll done.

I did not know that. Very cool indeed then!

Yes the frontman for The Cult grew up in Hamilton.

I was in the stadium when it was announced at halftime. Before the announcement, there was a lot of skepticism about who might be performing. The CFL didn't exactly wow anyone with last year's halftime act (one half of Florida Georgia line plus some other dude). Hamiltonians were ok with Arkells in '21 because while they weren't exactly a huge international headliner, they were at least our very own. Not to mention it was the COVID Grey Cup so the whole event was kind of meh to begin with (we won't talk about the game   :-\ )

But when it was made, the announcement had a very positive reaction from the crowd. A lot of surprise, shock and quite frankly, relief. It totally changed the vibe in the stadium for the second half (to go along with the Ticats holding a lead). Sure, there were a few who seemed unimpressed (mostly older folk), but you can't please everyone.

Quite frankly, I could really take or leave Green Day. Some of their stuff I like, some I could do without. But there's no denying it is a huge name for Grey Cup halftime and the league is better for it.

Thanks for the inside scoop Oskee!  Stick around a bit, our beloved catfan seems to have abandoned us.

Sorry about your team troubles this season.  Maybe they can pull a surprise in the playoffs.  I always wanted '22 to be a 3rd rematch with HAM.  I'm not sure anyone here likes TOR.  In the west we have ABC; maybe the whole league needs a ABT too.

If WPG makes it to the GC and it's vs TOR, we need HAM fans to keep all their tickets so they can bring the noise.  Don't want TOR to have a "home" game.

If we're lucky maybe we'll get a WPG v HAM rematch.  I could live with losing that.  Anything but to give up 2 TDs to Liver King again.  Ugh.  In my last 8 years of GC-attending (not every year, but some), the best nicest guys I've talked to have all been HAM fans.  They may be a bit ornery in their own barn (understandable) but they are top notch CFL fans at GCs.

Thanks for the great post! I do come on here regularly but rarely post. I'll try and fill the void of ticatfan in his absence!

Man, I would love nothing more than to have another WPG-HAM Grey Cup. I still have nightmares about the '21 matchup. Despite his accomplishments over the last 2 years, I still haven't forgiven Tim White for taking a knee in the endzone! Hamilton and Winnipeg have had an underrated rivalry both overshadowed by our larger rivalries with Toronto and Saskatchewan respectively. I think back to our Grey Cup matchups in '19 and '21; the 'boat game' from 2009; some scrappy games from the late 80s and early 90s; and the tales that my dad told me about the 50-60s Grey Cup matches ("we'll waffle 'em!").

I hope to see a lot of Bomber fans at Grey Cup especially if they're playing the Argos. Ticat fans will do their part (trust me), but we need you there to make sure the Argos don't win in our house (oh, and to help Winnipeg win a Grey Cup, I guess ;) )

Love this pick, can't wait to see the set list.

This half-time show is gonna be a gooder! Green Day puts on a banger of a live show!

Hoping they play a couple from Dookie and Insomniac (underrated and possibly their actual-best album).
