Haba and Schmekel are in. Jeffcoat and Murphy out

blue_gold_84

Jeffcoat was limited in practice this week, so this decision could be precautionary and nothing more. Hard to ever know with the way the team operates vis a vis injuries.

This gives him two weeks off (bye next week) and hopefully return on the 29th vs. TOR.

Well I'm happy to see Haba in, not happy Jeffcoat is apparently too injured to play, yet again......sighhhh
We've been saying for weeks that we needed to roster more dl , every other team has 7-8 on gamedays, So now to noones sueprise we have to rest Jeffcoat due to injury. OShea needs to listen to us! ;D

Seriously tho.

You over use Jeffcoat and now is, again, injured. Now we replace him with the only guy we have. What happens if Haba or Willie are hurt now? Would have to pick up a guy off the street.

Incredibly irresponsible to not have more depth here.

There's depth. We have 2 other DE's (Garbut and Givhan) and 1 DT (Fox). They're not being used though.

It's it's just precautionary that's fine. Having the bye gives him some extra time to heal. If OTOH he is unable to return and is unavailable for the following games that's a different concern.

Obviously players can get injured in any game on any play. Even if we had 2 import DL as DI's previously ( we didn't ) it wouldn't have guaranteed that Jeffcoat might not have been injured.

Haba only played a few games and he was injured and is just now available to return to the AR.

Murphy to 6 game IR? Yikes.

However, Jeffcoat has had several seasons of not being to stay healthy for the entire season. It seems this was a somewhat predictable outcome.

Hopefully this is the only game he misses. Need him back against the Lions and Argos.

Schmekel back on the AR. He does add more depth on the DL. Let's see if he's grown and can show he has a future.  If we get a big lead in the 2nd half, give him plenty of reps and rest our interior DL if possible.

We left practice at 1 pm on Wednesday. At that point Murphy was still on the field taking regular rotation with the O. So having him go to the 6 game is a surprise.

There was still room on the PR to send him there so not sure why they 6 gamed him. That would essentially eliminate him from playing again in 2023 but keep him under contract. Maybe they wanted to add some additional players to the PR and needed to create space.

Unless Lawson is nicked not sure why they're bringing Schmekel on, all of a sudden they dress 7 D-line after Jeffocat goes down, 4 of them being DT's. Maybe Walker plays more on the edge this game helping out Haba and Bennett, doubt Willie comes off the field much.  Should be an interesting game to watch the D-line to see how they hold up with this configuration.

I'd love to see the Bombers trade for Kongbo.

It would be good to get him back in time for the playoffs. What do we have that we'd be willing to give up that the Ti Cats would want? I don't think Kongo is getting too many reps in Hamilton. Their DL is fairly deep.

IMO the Bombers have an excess of good DB's, but doubt trading one would bring much in exchange as they're a dime a dozen.

I can't see giving up anyone that is on our AR so it falls to choices on our PR. The better players are already on our 6 game IR so they are out of the question more or less. Making a trade has to be a win win situation and I don't particularly see one.

I wonder whether they've approached the Ti Cats to see what they might want? It would be worth a call but I don't expect any trades of consequence in the near future.

Any one of Parker, Lawrence or Darby could be traded and it wouldn't hurt much.

If trading with Ticats, Lawrence and Darby might not work. They are Ticats castoff. Maybe Parker.
