I'm not actually sold on if this Kelly guy is actually any good.
He only as 10 1/4 games experience.  We know one thing as a fact, The CFL is forcing media and TSN to hype Kelly up like he's the greatest QB the CFL has ever seen (Toronto syndrome).
Yes he was the QB that led the Argos to a 4th quarter comeback win in the Grey Cup but really the entire Bomber coaching staff and players choked hard in that 4th quarter.
Yes he's been putting up above avg stats so far this year.
Look at the schedule the Argos have had, they have had all 3 of their byes in the first half of the season, played Hamilton 2 times, Edmonton once, almost lost to Calgary twice but split those games.
The 2nd half of the season with no byes until playoffs will have the Argos playing Ham 2 more times, Edmonton once, Ottawa twice and Montreal twice, SSK and Us. The games against Ham and Edm are basically just stat padding games.

This is a great contract but it should be for someone that's actually earned it. Think this was poorly timed by the Argos organization maybe they should have waited till the end of the season.

To me Kelly has shown hes the real deal in terms of the tools he brings, the question is as teams get more film will they be able to find more/better ways to defend him. I am surprised they had to go that high in salary as if hes already won the mop award. It will be interesting going forward how it impacts their team salary cap wise

Ya, I agree giving Kelly huge $$ is a little premature.  He looks pretty good so far, but is that worth becoming the highest paid QB on essentially your first CFL year?

It looks to me like TOR is taking a huge gamble.  I bet they know it's a gamble.  But with the QB situation in the CFL, and Kelly looking pretty good so far, it looks like a reasonable gamble to take.

If they're right and he is the next Zach, then it was a smart move to secure a winning QB.  If they didn't make the big move and lost Kelly (to NFL or another team) then they are basically screwed with no QB.  If they are wrong, at worst they have a good to mediocre QB.  I'm pretty certain Kelly won't turn out to be a complete bust.  I'd say at worst he turns into Cody.

Let's all remember that many QBs have looked like the second coming of Flutie in year 1 and then gone on to be complete busts: Jennings, Franklin, and then ones who took a bit longer to go downhill: Cody, Dane.

There's nothing wrong with starting any of that caliber of QB, as they can win you games: no, the quizzical thing is why would you make them the highest paid in the league.

If memory serves, Pinball, Harris and Kelly won a Grey Cup last season and have a reasonable chance of repeating this year, not sure the Argos deserve your contempt.

I don't have contempt, and I don't think many do.  What I'd say I/we do have is trepidation.

Kelly "won the GC" by playing, what, 5 snaps?  I wouldn't read much into that, other than he's young with more fire than fear.  That's a good thing for TOR, and Kelly, for sure.

What I do have contempt for is TOR sneaking into the GC so often over 100 years and winning even when their team wasn't very good during the season.  This is the TOR M.O., and it's very frustrating.  They just have the magic lucky GC horseshoe.  At least this year they arguably are a great team and will have earned it.  Hmm, maybe with their fortunes reversed it causes reversed results?  Sure hope so, as it'll be us vs them in the hammer come Nov.  At least the HAM fans will all be cheering for us!!
