Not to mention, that hit on Hatcher where he was diving for the ball and the Sask player came in and hit him in the head, similar to the Holmes glancing hit against Cal. But we got a UR and Sask got nothing, inconsistent reffing.
I thought the hit on Hatcher should have been a penalty too. Inconsistency comes from different refs calling things in different ways. Some will call player protection penalties tight. Others let them go.

We have Sean Lemon coming to IG on Thursday and I remember the body slam he put on Matt Nicholls which virtually ended his career.    There was no call at that time and the rules protecting players have since evolved however the referee's as you stated are inconsistent when applying them.    On the flip side, the hit Biggie put on Dane Evans was borderline and could have been called UR.    Evans was never the same after that hit which appeared to not only rattle him mentally as it appeared he sustained a rib injury.
Lemon plays on the edge and he will be gunning for our QB and the Bombers need to be aware and scheme for him to neutralize him as best they can.   Maybe that's why we never picked him up when he was available....we could certainly use another DE to rotate with the JJ and WJ

The CFL also has to look at some of the dangerous hits the returners are taking, they seem to be ignored when issues of player safety are examined.  Yesterday's games had some ridiculous examples of head to head collisions at high speed and a few reckless tackles around the neck that looked like clothes-lines and should have been penalized for excessive force.  The Riders Special Team seemed to be intentionally trying to injure the BC returner and celebrating it lustfully, I can see shades of Marino re-emerging on that team.

Whhatttt? The Riders played a great, physical football game. Nothing wrong with any of those special teams hits. That's how you play winning football. The only surprising thing is how the Riders were able to flip the switch. They looked like a completely different team last night. If they play like that on Labour Day we're going to be in for a tough game.

We are just used to giving up 15-20 yards on returns...I wish our coverage teams played like that.

I disagree, making head to head contact at full speed would not be accepted if the target was a QB, all players should be provided equal protection.

Championship calibre football in all phases of the game.  That is how you win.

I don't think the Riders cover teams were headhunting, but they were lowering the boom...

Hoping ST practice this week focuses on the P and cover team being on the same page about where the ball is going.  They need to know if it is going deep, left, right, short, etc so they can set up contain properly.  It looks to me a lot like the punter is looking at the returners and deciding where to place the ball, but has no way to communicate that to the players...
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

You mean 1% of refs will call (non-QB) player protection penalties and 99% of refs will let them go.  I'd prefer they let all of them go instead of dock us 15 for legal Holm hits.  100% one way or the other would be preferable, but it's not gonna happen.
Never go full Rider!

I prefer they call all of them so players will stop doing it. It should be black and white.

Thoughts on how Biggie always jumps and leads with his head on QB sneaks.

I personally think leading with your head is an impossible penalty for refs to call with any consistency and even more impossible for players to avoid.

That said, they've called Biggie on it a couple times early this season and we seem to have adjusted.

My wife is amazing!

It should be a penalty every single time. He'd stop it pretty quickly.

I believe he has stopped, he tried to use his shoulder to stop Tommy Stevens on a sneak and missed.
