Our special teams are bad

The kicker is. Ok.  I would suggest the guys on the coverage team, might be less than enthusiastic. Plus 2025 should be the last of cheering wins for the Bombers.  And. I expect more than the three teams will be over the salary cap. And who cares,as long as the Bombers win., and then sadly all retire en mass..  and by that time Cheveldayoff will have finally rid the jets of any player making over million a year, except for Morrisey, who be the lone NHLer in the roster.

There is zero chance we roster an American punter AND Castillo. Makes even less sense.

Sure you do on the PR. He'd have to show he's better than the global on the PR and be a better choice than the global on AR. Sheehan could end up injured at any time. If that happens the team at least has alternatives to consider.  I fully understand the ratio issues involved.

Go ahead and explain why we have an import FB on the roster or why we're starting 8 Canadians. Having 2 import kickers is not the 1st choice but it doesn't hurt to look at new candidates.

Again, PR is part of looking for candidates that might be challenging for a roster spot in 2024.

36 year old punter is old?  Bob Cameron and Jon Ryan are giggling...

Stats Junkie

Mike O'Shea stated on the Coach's Show earlier this year that the practice roster is 10 players + 3 globals. The Blue Bombers currently have the practice roster maxed out.

When Hansen returns to active duty we will have to re-evaluate our globals.

Schmitz is just fine for now and should Sheahan pull a hamstring I'm sure we'll all be glad he's on the roster.

Very true. I remember losing a kicker in the pre-game warm up when he pulled a muscle. And the infamous broken toe that happened in a hotel room. Renaud hurt himself numerous times making tackles. It can happen.

I almost forgot Ryan Lankford kicking here as recently as 2018. Forgot what was wrong with Medlock. But I feel good having capable backup at the ready.

When that player hasn't made a pro team roster, then yes.

You do realize that Castillo is capable of punting if needed. Not every team uses dual kickers and it may not be the 1st choice for an extended period. However I would think he could well be the 1st choice for a shorter duration.

If your idea is so good, I wonder why the Bombers don't cut him and add an American punter. Clearly those no knowings have no idea how to run a football team.  :D

...maybe they just haven't thought of it. Must be it!

Have to rewatch that movie, Quaid was quite good in it...

I've also questioned why we've kept Machino on the PR for another year.

Maybe in anticipation of another GLOB AR (and PR) +1 increase in 2024?  If they force us to dress 3 GLOBs then maybe a GLOB OL backup does start to look attractive?

Why?

1) He wants to be here
2) He's better than any other global we're going to find at the moment
3) He knows our system
4) He fits in
5) We have 3 global PR spots to fill

That the best you can come with?

Posters have been complaining about roster choices regarding our returner choice, Jackson as an import FB and overall lack of depth of on our DL AR. But sure our coaches have never made a wrong mistake.

Shows how thin and useless the Global draft was this year. So the claim to fame is that there wasn't another Global on the planet we could find and were forced to keep him? Actually we did have a global receiver in TC.  Aside from punters or kickers is there a Global starting anywhere in the CFL?

I'm not sure we have to fill 3 PR spots or are allowed to fill 3 roster spots.

You are allowed up to three. If you don't fill them then you don't get to use them for other players. Contrary to what you may believe, trying to get legitimately talented athletes to move to Winnipeg (from Europe, Australia, Japan etc.) for 6 months for $750 CAD/week is actually kind of hard.

Should you be really cranky and upset about it? No.

I understand that but that just proves the Global idea is not a good idea. Teams are forced to find and pay players that are clearly sub-par. 2 on AR at ELC deals or possibly more once they have to re-new and 2 or 3 on PR.

I'm not pro ratio but Global players on the AR have eliminated 2 Canadian roster spots. That's a forced ratio situation and not a sound business decision.

While I'm at it add in the moronic Nationalized American idea. In theory that takes away reps from Canadians.
