Good question. In the Edmonton game, we had 56 offensive snaps. Jackson played on 11, 4 in the first half, and 7 in the second. Three of them were at the end when they were up 14, and running a "heavy set" with Eli and Jackson, with Brady running the ball to run out the clock. I watched him on all 11 plays. He made some blocks, and also missed some. He may have played more in the second half also because Schoen was out, and McRae is not the greatest blocker. He almost always lines up outside the tackle one yard back of the line. A few times, he teamed up with the tackle on blocking the DE coming off the edge in pass blocking. A couple of times he pulls back into the middle for run blocking. Eli played 10 plays in that game as an extra O-lineman, 3 with Jackson, the rest without.

Is that a good use of a spot for an American? Well I guess he plays STs also. But I can't help feeling we should be able to find a canadian FB/ST player than is only a marginal step down, and frees up a spot for an American D lineman.

I like your stats!   You keep track of that yourself?  I'd love for you to post your stats here, or even PM me if you don't want to go public, after every game.  If there's a place that shows those stats, please share the url!

As for "Seal" Jackson, the fact we're putting him on instead of a NAT means that we have that extra AR spot for an IMP, so why wouldn't we use that?  Normally PR IMP > PR NAT.  Ya, he's not so useful in-game because of the substitution ratio issue.  Clearly MOS and/or Buck and/or Hall see something they really like and find useful to play him.  Are we the only team dressing a IMP FB??  Must be, eh?  I bet our braintrust has some interesting things lined up for him... maybe he's part of the post-season plans or solves a "puzzle piece" problem.
Never go full Rider!

As far as I know, there is no site that tracks this. I was just curious, so I watched the game again a third time (I know, I need a life  :D) and watched specifically for #48, while making some notes.

Lions defence is good.. but any team will look good against an Elks team. The Bombers need to play a good game with few penalties and mistakes to beat the Lions. Looks like they got better but I think they are still the same old Lions team like last year that we had so much success against. And Evans is playing so that that gives us an edge since we always play very well against him.

Pete

how is it we dont have a backup db , even Kelly on the gameday roster?

Darby is on the roster to backup too. Listed at Dime but can fill in the secondary if need be.

We didn't look that great first half against the elks at home last game.  Coming off a bad loss and at home I expected us fired up and we weren't.

All I can say is they'd better be fired up for BC....no slow starts this time as BC will be coming to prove it wasn't just a blip on the radar.   They are 5 point underdogs and they will want to shove that down our throats.....it might come down to their great defence vs. our great offence and their receivers are also elite.    If they get to Zach early and often it will be a long night for us.....we need to strike first and keep the pressure on Evans....go Bombers!!

The game stats show 24 pass attempts and 24 rushing attempts. However the new stats info is not very useful. In any case if Jackson only played on 11 snaps that's not an effective use of an import. We won't know if he'd not had those extra 3 if Schoen didn't get nicked.

While he plays ST's he didn't record any tackles. That may not be his primary role on ST's but still???

I can't help feel another DL would be more useful.  If we win it will just be a conversation. If we lose, it will be a more heated conversation.

It's a 30 degree day today. And it's been humid. There should be at least 2 extra guys in there rotating with the Jeff's.

This quantifies the need to get off the field when they get there chances.

The O need to march down the field to make the D fresh. Otherwise it will be a long night for all of us especially the D.

I get the logic of having extra blockers for Zach, but IMO Bennet is just not ready yet to be a main rotational piece. So unless Lawson, Jake or Walker can help rotate along the edge I see the Jeffs with this humidity and temperature running outta gas quickly today.

I know it's a balancing act with the roster but I just can't get over the lack of depth and rotation we have on the D-line.

I believe this will be a real dogfight and a hell of a game, but I just see BC wearing us down as the game goes on and winning in the end partially due to our defence in particular our d-line simply being too tired to keep up. I hope I am wrong, but IMO until we fix the d-line rotation I don't see us as a top team.

Blue In BC

Lions will be without their NT Banks. That should open up our run game earlier in the game. If that happens it slows down the rush and helps balance or win TOP. That in turn keeps the defence off the field.

Looking at deep charts it seems to me the game plan is to win via the defense, at least on the BC side of the ball.  Using the old adage, "if they can't score they can't beat us".

Appears to be a different philosophy coming from each side, BC appears to be loading up on available D-Line guys (9) and (6) at the LB position, perhaps an indication they intend to rotate the DL often to keep that squad fresh and try to wear down the Bombers O-line? Bombers on the other hand are the exact opposite, (6) guys listed as DL options and (9) guys listed a LB options?

Interesting take.  Key will be the efficiency of our offense and ensuring our OL provide protection and sets up the run game.  If we can play well on D and get up in the 4th Q we should be able to run the ball effectively.  Ding ding, this game will be very telling.
