when the score was still 11-3 late in the 4th quarter I tuned into CHED radio which covers the Elks games.....you had this feeling that somehow the Elks would blow it once again and they did.    Even after allowing the rouge you had the feeling they just would find another way to lose and Corny throws a pick to end the game.....it was just a bad throw.   He sort of reminds me of MBT who used to throw for big yardage and find ways to lose games....often throwing ill timed picks.    Neither team deserved to win it and the Riders were somewhat fortunate that Corny threw that pick in the dying seconds.....also not impressed with the CHED announcers calling the game.
what was wrong with the CHED announcers?

Edm QB was completely past the LOS when he threw.

Poor coaching on the single that won the game.

Got to feel sorry for Edmonton.

Riders might be the worst 3-1 team in history. 2 wins against Edmonton, one won by a single late drive + a 2 point conversion + a mistake by the returner for 1. The other by a goal line stand. A win over Calgary in OT when Maier just needs to throw the ball away to get a tie.

Agreed, but as someone else already stated in this thread, they don't ask how, just how many...

Riders seem to start every year off with a decent record, hope and optimism, only to be squashed in the back half of the season.  My prediction is Trevor Harris is going to be hit hard once too often and be placed on the 6 game IR, ending their dreams in a bitter nightmare.

Two very ugly wins against the Elks should be cause for concern - even with a 3-1 record.

And things won't get easier in the coming weeks.

Yeah, I'm not sure one way or the other. If he was in the throwing motion before he crossed the LOS then I agree it was a legal pass. Even though he came down over the LOS while finishing the throw.  Would have to read the rule in that regard. Someone mentioned the LOS was the 30 yard line and not the 29 yard line.

Regardless, a penalty was not thrown. Whether that was correct or not, I didn't think that becomes a reviewable play? You can't challenge in the last few minutes so that was a bit confusing.

Elks botched the remainder of the series and still lost, so there might have been more outrage if they had won as a result.

Command center reviewed it..if you believe suitor - you can step over the line as long as a piece of you is behind the line you are ok.  It looked over to me but I will trust command center.

From TSN, I haven't heard of CJ accepting any blame for not coaching his returner...

Sims took ownership of his blunder after the game.
?It hurts, man. It hurts. I feel like I let the team down. It hurts,? he said. ?It was a boneheaded play by me, but I?ll learn from my mistakes, and it?ll never happen again.?
?Sucks. No other way to put it. We were so close, and to end like that. Sucks,? Cornelius said.
?He knows [he made a mistake],? Elks head coach Chris Jones said of Sims? mistake. ?The moment was big and he?s a good little player. There will probably be more people talking about this than when he had a great game returning the other day.?

How dumb does a returner need to be not to learn the rules of the game he's playing, he's been around for at least 6 weeks and it's not like he had to memorize a playbook in that time, he only has to learn what to do in a handful of different situations.  Unbelievably dumb.
I couldn't agree with you more. You have one job to do, "RETURN THE BALL". It is mind boggling that first you let the ball go over your head and then you show zero urgency to get the ball out of the end zone so you don't give up the lead in the last minute of regulation. This player is a lost cause in my opinion. His lack of professionalism in being so unprepared is a reflection on how little he payed attention in practice and film work.

It's not the first time we've seen an American player do this on a return.

It doesn't necessarily make him dumb or unprofessional.

It does make him ill prepared. It's not like I wouldn't have been told multiple times during TC and pre-season about the different rules in the CFL. If he had watched any other CFL games played this year, he would have / should have known.

With the game tied, a quick question to his ST coach and what do you want me to do?

Even without the issue of the point, kneeling down quickly may have salvaged enough time for a play or two more in regulation time.

He could have picked it up quickly and returned it a long distance of even a TD.

The list goes on.

Ill-prepared certainly fits here but then the blame falls at the feet of many, including his ST coach.

If we're going to lambaste a rookie who made a mistake, all I'm saying is labeling him dumb and unprofessional isn't a good look.

I understand that rookies make mistakes. I don't put lining up in the wrong place or running the wrong pass routes in the same category as not knowing the rules because you are not paying attention in film sessions.

100% coaching error, he should have been coached to "Get that bloody ball out of the endzone no matter what" before he took the field.

Chris Jones calling him "a good little player" says a lot to me in how he regards his players.

Even if Cris Jones wins out the season, I don't think he has a job there next year.  Maybe he lands a DC gig in the CFL, but more likely a US college...

He has shown his ineptness as a GM and as a HC this year...

At least the team will get a good player at #1 overall next draft, too bad Conor Bedard went this year...
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

Man, you're too much sometimes.

If Chris Jones won out, he'd win coach of the year.
