against BC he had his bucket ripped off and he got a penalty!!   Couldn't figure that one either?

A player can't continue to participate with the play if he loses his helmet. I think only the actual ball carrier is an exception to that rule.

I know the rule and my gist was why wasn't there an infraction called for ripping his helmet off?   Doug Brown on OB Radio was wondering the same thing

Yeah, otherwise you could just rip a player's helmet off every time you wanted to nullify them. Has to account for both sides and certainly having the penalty offset go the way of the team that had the player effected should be the most fair. Like 5 and 10 yards or 10 and 15 yards of penalties.

The ball carrier isn?t exempt from the rule. Play is blown dead immediately if ball carriers helmet is off.

I'd have to re-watch that particular play. A helmet can be dislodged due a collision from a shoulder etc. If it wasn't pulled / pushed off by a hand to the face it won't be a penalty. In fact at times it may even be caused by the player himself brushing the shoulder of a blocker.

I'm not saying that's what happened but it's not always a penalty. Maybe someone can post video for review.

Some players wear thier helmets quite loosley, AH33 always seemed to lose his bucket.

I do not thing WJ5 is one of those players, that blatant face mask, helmet spin showed that.  His helmet literally went 90 degrees in rotation without coming off.  He was looking out his earhole.

That should have been caught by the eye in the sky and the player safety spotter...
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

Are you saying that you saw a player grab his facemask? If so, what number?

It was an illegal hands to the face, right in front of the ref and linesman who missed it. I don?t know why mos couldn?t have challenged for the obvious foul?? It was blatant for all to see yet went unpunished

I saw the helmet turned sideways, but I didn't see how it happened. As it was obvious to you, can you tell me which player did it?

Yes, I saw the ALS right tackle use hands to Willie's face mask which spun his helmet sideways, AND it was right in front of the head ref.

The broadcast on Saturday showed the replay twice and the culprit was Als' OL Landon Rice.

Textbook illegal block - hands to the face that was missed.

Gotta be clear which incident we're referring to in each post.  I think BinBC here is talking about the BC game where Willy completely lost his bucket.  In that instance it was a HTF that lifted Willie's helmet off.

What made me, and other fans, so mad, was:
a) They called illegal participation (10Y) on Willie
b) They didn't call the HTF on BC
c) (rubbing salt in the wound) They had just a few plays earlier called a really weak HTF on Big Stan

All 3 combined made me pretty darn miffed at the game.  The reffing got cleaned up a bit in the 2nd half, but in the first half it was horrifically biased against WPG.

Fair enough. Hands to the face should be called every time.

If it's for a nano-second, like Big Stan's HTF in the BC game, I don't think it should be called.  It needs to impact the head tilt and helmet position, and be for more than a nano-second IMHO.  They usually let such things slide.  It's like in a horsecollar tackle where the defender touches it, realizes where his hand is, and lets go before pulling to any degree.  They usually let that slide too.

Big Stan was on camera shaking his head for 2 mins after that ticky-tack HTF.  He couldn't believe it.  I can't recall the last HTF against Big Stan.  He knows how to play the margin without taking penalties better than anyone.
