What happened to my C, eh?

Meant to ask in PS... why has the league replaced the C yard line marker with the number 55?  And in a different color than the others.  I think it's been labelled "C" forever?

We didn't do this just for the USA viewers, did we?  Like they couldn't figure out the C?  What, they'd think it meant "Canadian" and tune out?

Great, make me do a double-take to check if I'm insane... 

I just checked my PVR from 2013 thru today, and randomly chose 1 game from each season, and every season I can confirm the CFL has "C" on the 55 yard line.

The numeral "55" is new this year.  (Phew for my sanity!)

Are you referring to IG Field?  Winnipeg starting using 55 at mid-field after Wade Miller took over. He wanted to highlight that unique aspect to Canadian football.

I remember it differing by stadiums and also not really giving it much thought since each field has unique markings already.

I agree. Moreover I prefer the 55 to highlight the fact that "This is Canada, the true North strong, free and chilly. And if you don't love it, go back to La La Land or wherever."

And I not only remember the 55 but I remember wondering whether there was inconsistencies among playing fields when I first saw a C but I don't recall when that was.

Ah, my one-game-per-season random sampling wasn't enough... You are correct it would appear that IGF has been using the "55" for several years!

Darn, I just found in my random sampling that EDM is still using C.  And OTT used "55" last year too.  Argh.

So I guess it still does vary by stadium like Waffler said.  Nothingburger, sorry!  Though I do still wonder why in the last couple of years they've put red highlighting around the white 55.

For the record, I like the C (for Canada, eh!).
