Lawler shouldn't have thought anything.  He made $300k last year.  He should have had the best DUI lawyer in all of Canada.  There are people who are experts on all of this, people who get all the VIPs and bigwigs and politicians off with slaps on the wrist.  That is who you hire.

The only thought Lawler should have had was "who's the best law firm".

Do you know who his lawyer was?  How do you know that he didn't have a great lawyer, that not only dragged it out,  but got him off with a small fine (read: slap on the wrist)?  Tough to beat a charge that includes a single vehicle accident...

Good deed?  Guy was drinking and driving he deserves every bit of punishment he gets

The reading comprehension of some on the forum falls to a new low.  Everyone chill and go back and read what I said.  Lawler's "good deed" is clearly referring to his "doing the right thing" and pleading guilty as the other poster said.  Lawler is getting the worst "punishment", in terms of the hit to his income by being denied work permits, of any DUI player any of us can remember.  The ones who contested it (I'm sure some did) all came out ahead compared to Lawler, as none missed playing time and game cheques two years later.

My original comment is a few posts back and remains unedited for those who care to actually see the truth.  What you guys are interpreting doesn't even make any sense!  You're implying I said the DUI was the "good deed"... but his current "punishment" (legal work limbo) is severe punishment indeed, so why would I be saying it went "unpunished"?  Gak, the thought processes of some.  Embarrassing.

I hate drunk drivers as much as anyone.  It's one of the stupidest crimes one can commit, and one of the easiest to avoid if you're not a complete drunk.  I've never said otherwise.  Lawler had the CFL as his oyster and he hinders or ruins it for some booze and keys?  Dumb.

Because a great lawyer or firm would have foreseen and accounted for all possible complications.  They wouldn't have focussed just on the immediate impact, they wouldn't have cared at all about the fine (what's a few thou to a $300k superstar?), they would have looked at all future implications.  Again, every single other DUI player managed to avoid this.  Maybe it's not that Lawler didn't hire the best lawyer, maybe it's that he hired the worst.  Either that, or he had the best lawyer and just didn't listen to his advice.  In any event, the error is Lawler's.

I tend to agree with most of what you are saying and I'm pretty disappointed and a little angry at all 3 parties involved including Bomber management.    As you said the CFL was Kenny's oyster and he really e#&ed things up for himself, the tram and finally the fans.    Winnipeg fans are invested in this team like few others and they had such high expectations for Lawler and the team when he was signed.....only to play the first two exhibition games and THEN be suspended "indefinitely".    That's a real kick in the gonads for everyone concerned not to mention his family.

The first mistake I can forget (forgiveness? not really forgive-able but he paid for it with a one game suspension).   You'd think that after screwing up like that he would make certain that all the Ts were crossed and I's were dotted.    So whether he had a good lawyer or a bad lawyer at the end of the day Lawler is responsible for his actions and obviously Bomber Management made assumptions regarding the legal process.    All in all the three parties collectively missed the boat and created the perfect storm allowing conditions to deteriorate in such an unprecedented fashion....

So yeah....I'm a little pissed however I'll get over it and the sun will rise the following morning.   Peace out

No ones reading comprehension is an issue. We know exactly what you said and disagree.

Referring to pleading guilty as a good deed is incomprehensible. He didn't have any other option. And he hasn't received any punishment as far as we know for his crime (A fine?). His current missed work has nothing to do with the crime and his screw up at pleading guilty so late in the process with clearly no idea that it work affect his work status.

I understood what techno was saying as it made sense with the quote he made and his other posts.

I am contemplating locking this thread as there is just wild speculation going on...we don't know what happened and what will happen and the club itself may not know at this point.

I see no need to lock this thread....which of course contains a lot of speculation and off the wall comments....let us kvetch about this if we so desire.....

Have to wonder if the social media people are in tune with the team, or out to lunch.  No doubt this is one of the stock photos they have of a white jersey...

It would be very on theme for the Bombers social Media people to not know Lawler is suspended...
