Important question: who originally told who that it would be "3 to 4 weeks"?

Did the gov tell Lawler it would be "3 to 4 weeks"?
Did they not, and it was Lawler telling WFC it would be "3 to 4 weeks"?
Did he not, and it was just the WFC telling the media it would be "3 to 4 weeks"?
Did they not, and it was just the media telling the fans it would be "3 to 4 weeks"?

Someone lied.

"Lied" is for sure an overly strong word here.

It's likely that no one has any idea how long this would take because it depends on so many factors. They probably asked an "expert" and they said "Around 3-4 weeks is typical in a lot of cases; with that said, it's possible that...." and when asked the question, the WFC just answered with the first part.

There's nothing conniving or any cover up going on here. This is just lost in bureaucracy and the truth is probably even more boring than we think.

Sure, it's frustrating. But it's also nobody's business save for those who are involved in the matter.

We've got about 280,000 reasons that the Lawler situation is our business.  Both as fans, and as members of the community that own the community-owned WFC.

Have you ever dealt with the Federal Gov't before? A given time frame with them is a suggestion. When have you known anything within the Federal Gov't to be on time or on budget?
It's probably just legitimately someone has stack of papers on their desk and they haven't got to his yet, whether it is because more important ones are bumping it, they are overwhelmed or the person's desk it hit is perhaps not the most diligent worker around.

Have a pop or a whiskey or a pop with some whiskey and enjoy the last win....

All wild speculation.

The wild speculation is a direct result of the paucity of information.  The wild speculation could be nipped immediately by all involved being more forthcoming with information.  Until more information is revealed there will be more speculation.  And the speculation will grow, not shrink.

Everyone was very patient for the 4 weeks of the "3-4 weeks".

I would hope MOS will directly address this in the coaches show (tonight? because of the holiday?).

You make up a situation then say you don't understand it, then say his privacy has to be respected because of the made up situation. No it F'ing doesn't.

It's called speculation based on the information at hand. He's a non-resident whose eligibility to seek entry into Canada has been compromised due to criminality.

What makes you think his privacy shouldn't be respected during this time?

Lawler is a star and therefore his problems can & should be shared in the media.

Being a star? LOL :D

Are you paying his salary? No.

Man, the misguided entitlement of some fans is comical.

Is it community-owned?  Am I a member of the community?  Then yes, I pay his salary.  I pay his salary as much as I pay, say, a federal employee's salary.

But even if WFC was privately owned, teams owe fans a little more transparency, especially when it comes to the biggest FA splash signing of the last 5 years.

If this was happening to the BC Lions I have no doubt they'd be 10X more transparent.

"Entitled" or not, fans, and then the media, raising a stink will pressure WFC to release more info.  They gave us their word on something and seemed to act in good faith (in the sense that it was plain English and we accepted it at face value).  The window for continuing on that tack is closing... Not closed, but closing.

LOL :D

Maybe call the WFC head office and whine to them about your entitlement, then.

More than comical - downright scary and concerning for our future as a society...

I am sure Lawler and Bombers are doing everything they can to move this along and no they aren't going to share details of the conversations with lawyers and government officials.

It will get done when it gets done.

Yes, too true.  But even the feds have to work within specified service levels (source: close family member is one).  If they said to Lawler's legal team "3-4 weeks" in writing, without an "about" or "maybe", then they have to deliver.  There are many avenues for Lawler to file a grievance, contact a supervisor, or file with an ombudsman.  Or all 3.  That's why it would be good to know who originally came up with the "3-4 weeks" verbiage.  Maybe the gov never promised anything and it was Lawler's legal team pushing the hopium.

As for gov delays, one would think this case would get more priority because:

a) There is actual real-world harm to Lawler: the loss of tens of thousands in income weekly.

b) This is a high-profile case that eventually could worm its way into the media; if this really is all gov foot-dragging and they renege on promises (with proof), the gov could be lambasted in the media, and gov agencies hate negative media attention.  Fair or not, the world will care more about Lawler's visa being delayed than some guy crossing the border to become a bus boy.  If any case deserves to be in the "expedited" pile, this is the one.

Because he is a public figure.

What is private about not taking care of a DUI that he got anyway?

If you drink, don't drive. If you drink & drive & get caught, take care of it legally. If you don't & you're American, you're gonna have a bad time at the border and you won't be able to work in Canada until your problem has been taken care of. If it hasn't been taken care of, then don't sign a contract to work in Canada. If you ignore all that, don't expect me to respect your so called 'privacy'. Criminality shouldn't be a private thing. It should be very public.

Just because Lawler is a pro football player, doesn't mean he should be put to the top of the pile. He should be in the same queue as every other American looking to work in Canada with a criminal record.

Just because it hasn't happened yet, doesn't mean anyone is dragging their feet.

Just because the club said 3-4 weeks, isn't any guarantee that it will happen in that time frame. In fact, we already know it hasn't.

It's time for the club so set the next expectation by letting us know how many more days/weeks/months it's likely to be. If the club doesn't do that then they have to put up with whatever fans make up. It's not about player privacy. It's about correct expectations.

This.  This isn't your old drunk Aunt Mabel getting her 3rd DUI.  The CFL public has expectations.  It's called optics.  Optics are important, whether we like it or not.

I guarantee you there is a ton of information at this time.  We are just not privy to it.  Whether the parties involved choose to share the info now is their choice.

In my mind the big worry now is the next announcement won't be "2 more weeks", it'll be "the WFC has cut Lawler".

We shall possibly find out more less than 3 hours from now.  I might text/call for the first time ever.

Wisdom says stop the speculation and wait for the results.  Discussing all sorts of outcomes (some wildly unsupported) doesn't help, doesn't speed thing along and the reality is that this will play out until resolved by the Bombers, Kenny Lawler and the authorities.
