Ok, so why didn't Hughes have this same problem after his DUI?  And any other CFL DUIs we have heard about.  Why didn't all those players have trouble getting back in the game 1-2 years later?  Why didn't actual airport-weed-smuggler D.Carter have any trouble?

Why is this just Lawler??  Someone severely dropped the ball.  You telling me all the above doofuses are smarter than Lawler?

Giant fail for the Bombers, imo.

Due diligence was not done.

We do not know how much "due diligence" was done, and by whom.  If the WFC asked Lawler and his lawyer if it was handled and they were told "Yes", what more due diligence would be done before the issue arose?  We do not know who dropped the ball, or when.  We can't throw a challenge flag on this fumble, and get a slow motion review of the play...

Not sure if he left the country after his case was closed.  If he did, the issue would have come up upon his re-entry.  Not sure if that was different with Hughes... there are a lot of factors.

Asking another party if something has been done or not is not due diligence.

Whatever excuses there are or who did what when, they failed to determine if this was going to be an issue and get it worked out before the season started.

I thought Lawler already made a bad decision for getting the DUI in the first place!   What's the saying, once bitten twice shy....ya think??    I might have forgiven him the first time but the onus was on both him and the Bombers to confirm his status.....like duh??

What I don't understand is... where is he?  He was here for PS1 and PS2, right?  In any event, he either went "missing" between PS2 and week 1, or PS1 and PS2.  As in he was here one day and gone within a few days later.  So did he go back down to the USA or did he remain in Canada??

It would strike me as odd if he went down to the USA right before the start of the next practice week?  Who goes down for only 1-2 days?

So might he still be in Canada?  Ok then, work with me here.  If he's still in Canada, why on earth can't he practice/play?  Is there some visa thing where you can be in-country but they forbid you from working?  How precisely do they do that?  Maybe Kenny should "volunteer" his time to the WFC until he is legally allowed to work?  They can't stop you from volunteering.

If he is in Canada, maybe this is WFC stopping him from playing, not the gov.  Maybe we don't want the legal hassles.  Or the bad optics.

In any event, I'm thinking the WFC has got to give us some updates as to precisely what is happening.  They just can't say "no comment" every week for the next X weeks, all the while with Lawler absent.

Not sure going south before this thing is settled would be wise.....but it does seem strange we aren't made aware of where he is.    This is one time the Bombers braintrust really &s&@ed up and there's just no sugar coating it.    They made him the highest paid Bomber aside from Zach and not being able to play him or know if he's working out and in game shape.   I'm assuming the Bombers are aware of his whereabouts and what he's up to but then you know that thing about assumptions?

I think he is still here, but I certainly can't walk you through the legalities of why that's allowed. He already was up here, and he's not a dangerous criminal, so maybe he's just allowed to hang around until the process plays out - but I don't know.

He 100% is not allowed to work in Canada. It is illegal. That's the crux of all of this. There's no way around it.

And, as much as I hate this, they don't have updates. There's nothing to update. This isn't skipthedishes, you can't look to see where your order is on the map.

It was reported that while his immigration status is in limbo, he cannot be with the team, as he is not legally allowed to "work".  Pretty sure he is here, but I can understand him keeping a low profile...

It's amazing how you can turn literally anything into a deep, confusing mystery that doesn't exist. Who cares "where he is"? Why is that something you feel you should be entitled to know? The Bombers have told you what is happening. He's an American with a criminal charge who is trying to get things sorted out legally so he can play/work for the team. That's the end of the story.

Nonetheless it is still frustrating to not know his status regardless of the legal process....in 60 years of Bomber fandom I've never heard of this happening to a Bomber player before.....it's rather unprecedented.   His was the absolute biggest signing of the off season and then to miss the opening 4 games and possibly more will affect his play when he returns.....whenever that is.    Is it the Canadian or US legal systems that thrown the monkey wrench into this very strange situation?    Surely there must be someone that knows his status and ETA.

Sure, it's frustrating. But it's also nobody's business save for those who are involved in the matter.

Pretty much this, it?s a legal matter, the only people that should be in the know is Lawler, his legal team, and his employer (the bombers)

Lawler is a star and therefore his problems can & should be shared in the media.
Other players took care of their DUI's before they became a problem. Lawler didn't.
Due diligence wasn't done properly, or else the Bombers would have known about the problem before it became a problem.
The reason we aren't hearing what's going on is because the Bombers refuse to tell the reporters. Reporters know that if they go around the Bombers to get the info, they will be shut out by the Bombers.

The matter is in the courts and the bombers aren?t saying anything nor should they until a decision has been made. Who cares where he is , really?? He?s going to be convicted of dui and face his punishment just like everyone else . I can?t believe this day and age you?d be stupid enough to get behind the wheel after drinking. I hope he gets exactly what he deserves.

1) How do you know he didn't?
2) How do you know the Bombers didn't?
3) How do you know reporters could access info but haven't because of retribution?

All wild speculation.
