Not sure how anyone can say how Agudosi in for Lawler is not a big deal. Lawler is our best receiver and possibly the best in the CFL with the best QB throwing to him. Agudosi had one stand out game so far. It's possible Oleary-Orange plays anyway and we use the import elsewhere.

Agree. BOO, has played very well, and could win that spot while KL89 is gone.

It's a proven star receiver versus a relatively unproven receiver. When healthy we'll have to see if Agudosi can perform at the level of his 1st game. I don't think we start 3 Canadian receivers though. That's a reach IMO.

The general assumption is that Agudosi is the next man up. If he gets beat out be a rookie receiver, then he's probably no longer with the team.

Just another thing to watch in the game tonight. I hope he racks up 10 catches for 150 yards and 4 TD's.

I'm glad to see Agudosi finally get his chance to start, it gives the coaching staff time to sort out some intangibles, the receivers will have 3-4 games of open competition to determine the pecking order for the remainder of the season. Eyes on Woli, Bailey and Agudosi to determine which will be the most valuable contributor.

The initial report was vague. and suggested this wasn't a hell fire and brimstone moment.   I took it that way.  Some people on here seem to want to believe the worst.

I don't know anything about the situation.  From the initial report it was suggested it was a fender bender type of situation.
Of course if he was falling down drunk, and the accident wrecked a car or injuries happened, then I certainly agree that the severity warrants a great penalty.

I  just wonder if it wasn't some immature cop, trying to make a name for himself.
I also wonder why this could not have been handled  by the team in co-operation with the police, with penalties as would be normal, but hushed hushed.

The other possibility is that he has already dealt with the charges, but maybe not the visa implications.

Getting a DUI would normally get your admissibility revoked, although I am sure that exceptions are made (Charleston Hughes, Ellingson, and that SK QB come to mind) but I am sure you would have to make special application to the immigration people.  Teams help players with visa issues all the time, and this one may have slipped through the cracks in the switching of teams.  It would not surprise me that it would take 3-4 weeks to get that resolved.

The immigration implications would've been immediate from the moment he was charged back in 2021, so I'm not sure how that would've been able to fester for another two years, especially when he didn't remain in Canada after the 2021 season and would've had to get another work permit when he signed with another team last year and prior to re-entering the country.

The charges would've affected his admissibility into the country but my best guess is he was given a special provision (as is the case with the majority of athletes with criminality) with the help of the organization to ensure he could remain with the team for the 2021 season and post-season. I expect the same was done last year in order for him to play with the Elks.

I have to surmise this new suspension is due to something being missed here as it relates to the charges in this jurisdiction.

I'm honestly baffled that anything could've been overlooked, though. What a strange turn of events.

This is the silver lining in all of this, IMO.

Agudosi gets a great opportunity to start the season.

It is a big deal. Agudosi could be great, could be terrible, could get immediately injured again.

Lawler was supposed to be our big addition this year. This is a huge disappointment.

Maybe but it won't be much. He got half his salary upfront as a signing bonus so a couple weeks won't do anything, considering we will be giving a game cheque to someone else, more or less.

TecnoGenius

Agudosi in for Lawler is not the big hit everyone is saying.  The comparison should not be over the theoretical 2023 roster, it should be to the 2022 roster.  And vs the 2022 roster it's Agudosi in for Ellingson.  That's not a big loss.

Just like 2022 it'll be: Woli, Schoen, Demski, Agudosi (instead of Ellingson), Bailey

We actually played a game in 2022 with precisely that roster and we kicked major butt.

Agreed but was just salivating thinking of how many MORE points we could put up.  You can't out tall Agudosi , especially in the end zone but Lawler stretches the D like few players can.

I hope they don't mis-use Agudosi, those short digs are a killer for a receiver of his height, leave the low stuff for Bailey Woli. and Demski and use Agudosi's height as a redzone weapon.  He doesn't have to catch many balls if a lot of them are TD's.

Paul Friesen provides a reasonable explanation for Lawler's situation in the following Sun article, good on him.

https://winnipegsun.com/sports/football/cfl/winnipeg-bluebombers/bombers-lawler-entered-guilty-plea-in-april-triggered-immigration-snafu

Sounds like things are headed in the right direction. To bad the Lawler, his lawyer, and the Bombers, didn't check on these laws back in April.

Wouldn?t this crap void Lawlers contract.  There has to be a clause for criminality  or unacceptable community profile.
