A few chances to the Manitoba fishing regulation for 2023. No fishing for Walleye's after April 3rd, till the season opens in May. You can't keep Walleye's under 35cm or 13.75 inches. We don't keep Walleye's under 14 inches, so I think this is great rule. If your 16-64, and live in Manitoba a regular fishing license will cost you $25.10.

All i really care about is the fact is, as a veteran I do not have to pay to fish. Hecksya!!!!

It's nice for veteran's, but it only applies to the Province you live in.

fine by me, one less thing to pay for and the in-laws cabin is in Manitoba.

I think it should be across Canada. My brother is a Vet. and lives in Ontario. When he comes to our Cabin in Ontario it's free fishing. When he comes to our Cabin in Manitoba he has to pay for a license. Lucky for him a license in Manitoba is only $25.00, nearly double that in Ontario.

Thanks for the update about the small walters

Some very good fishing this weekend. Two master smallmouth bass. Walleye's at 20 feet, on jigs and minnows. Perch off the dock, one after another. Did some drift fishing this morning with a bottom bouncer, lindy rig with nightcrawlers, kids land some big walleye's. A number of them to big to keep.

How do you keep the small perch from getting all the bait when on the dock?
A Pro fisherman next door to me was nailing picks in 5? of water, when the wind was crashing waves onto shore.

1/4-3/8 ounce small spinning lures that we make. 1/4 ounce jigs, 2" gulp worms, or chop up a night crawler in 1 inch pieces. My granddaughter like to cheap and us a stinger hook.

Another great weekend of fishing. We have our Bomber border hooked. He just can't get enough fishing in, and he loves walleye. Walleye's are at 20-22' right now. Still biting on jigs and little joe's. The bass and perch on anything with a spinner, and shallow water. Crappy are biting right now small jigs and worm's.

Pigskin

Great morning of fishing. Very little windy, catching on jigs and salted minnows, at 18-20 feet. Catch our limit in 90 minutes. Mite be the last week of fishing for our Bomber border so I would think we will be out there as much as possible.

Nice cool day in Kenora. Light jacket weather. Walleye's are crazy at the month of the channel. Lots of snags, now we separate the men from the boys. Is it a snag or a bite. lol.

Went to Pinefalls yesterday with my brother-in-law. Very busy at the boat launch. A number of Americans, and lots of people fishing off the dock which is a no, no. Winds was very strong and he only has a 16' Lund SSV. Started out with bottom bouncers, and night crawlers. Fished a couple humps, with salted minnows and 1/2oz jigs. The fishing was steady, but not great. A couple of monster's, 30" plus. 30 minute wait to load the boat. Manitoba Conservation checking vehicles and boats. Nailed a number of people for violations.

Back in Kenora for the weekend. Today was a beautiful day, and a great day of fishing. Went to Pickerel Rock and fished with a 3/8 jig and salted minnows. Steady good size walleye's all day. Looks like we mite get a couple  more weeks in before having to shut it down.

Pigskin

Big morning of fishing. Ice isn't very thick, so just fishing around our dock. Pretty much one after the other on salted minnows and 1/4oz jigs.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Still no ice fishing in Kenora yet. However, the fishing around our dock is still pretty hot. The kids are catching a lot of small mouth bass and perch, and few walleye everyday.

Pigskin

Last weekend before the kids head back to school. Full cabin with our Ukraine family down for the weekend. The kids and Artem, have been catching fish all day. Lots of walleye's right in front of our dock. Still not save to travel on the ice.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Another amazing day at the lake. Still fishing 6' off our dock, just don't trust the ice this year. The kids are still reeling in a lot of fish. Most are on 3/8 oz. jigs and salted minnows. My Granddaughter prefers a 3/8 to 1/2 oz. jigging lure.

Well, me and the kid went ice fishing for the first time in our lives. Went through a club that started at her school.

Just went to lockport as we were all first timers and didn't know what we were doing. 4 hours in and our group of 20+ people collectively caught 2 fish that were barely bigger than the bait.

The kid was disappointed, but it was a good time.
My wife is amazing!

Pigskin

Yes, it can be tough if you don't know the area well. I can honestly say if I went to Lockport today, I wouldn't know where to fish.

Eh... The Red is meh on a good day this time of year. Probably better luck on Lake Winnipeg proper - Chalet Beach and Balsam Bay are pretty consistent, and the drive is reasonable on a clear day.

Another very good weekend of fishing. The kids used mostly vertical jigging lures and spoons, as someone forgot to get more minnows. lol. Lots of walleye's in the 15"-18" size, and a tons of perch. I am glad some cooler weather is coming in, it was getting a little slushy around the dock.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Slow fishing yesterday afternoon. This morning a little better, but the kids figured there honey hole went dry. However, this afternoon it's been very good again. 3/8 oz. jigging spoons seems to be the answer today in about 12' of water.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Very windy for our first weekend of fishing. Got a break in the weather yesterday, but it was still windy. Spent most of our time drifting with bottom bouncers and lindy rigs. Caught most of our bigger walleye's in 10-12' of water. My granddaughter had a very good day catching small mouth bass and perch off our dock with 3/8 oz. spinners.

Had a visit from group that was on the water yesterday handing out info on Zebra Muscles. They wanted to know if we were checking our boat every time we lift it out of the water. They also suggested getting a devise called the Dock Disc. We normally pressure wash the boat every time we lift it, so they were happy with that.

My wife went online today to get her Manitoba fishing license and discovered that Manitoba no longer has a conservation license.

Another windy day, but a good day. A lot of drift fishing. Lots of walleye's on bottom bouncers, and lindy jigs. Most of the good size fish in 12-16' of water. Evening fish was all about small mouth bass. Hitting hard on 3/8 oz. spinning lures in shallow water.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Big morning on the water. A lot of 18-20" walleye's on 3/8 oz. jigs and live minnows caught off the end of our dock. Purple and white jigs are winning the day.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Finally a morning with little to no wind. Anchored at pickerel rock in 20' of water. 3/8 green and white jigs seemed to be the color today. Live of fresh frozen minnows, didn't seem to matter. My granddaughter likes the frozen minnows better. Lots under 14", but they all have go back. Limit of nice keepers all 16" -21".

Another good weekend of fishing. Little windy on Sunday so we were back to bottom bouncers and nightcrawlers in about 12-15' of water.

My buddy brought out his newer 25hp 4 stroke Yamaha. Nice looking motor and ran really well, except when idling. Idling the motor shakes so bad. He said he has taken it into the dealership twice and they say that's how they runs.  Super cheap on gas.

Good day of fishing. Catching good size walleyes in 20-22'of water on jigs and minnows.

Morning's have been excellent for walleye's. Still hanging in 20-22' of water. Small mouth bass are hitting hard in swallow water on small spinners in the afternoon.

Great day of fishing with the grandkids before they head off to the Olympics. Some really nice sized walleye's in fast moving water on double hook worm harness. Walleyes still hanging out in 18-22' of water.

From the reports I am getting, most of the anglers on Lake of the Woods are catching a lot of fish right now.

Well, after a one week break, back on the water this weekend. For some it was very productive, for others not so much. Fish and game was on the water all weekend and there was some very unhappy anglers. Hearing over 200 tickets handed out over the weekend. Lots of them for under size fish and over the limit.

Pigskin

Small mouth Bass and Perch are still biting hard, on spinning lures and crank baits. Walleye's were a little harder to find last week, but they are back this morning. Little windier this morning, so did a lot of drift fishing, with bottom bouncer and 2 hook worm harness with a brass colored spinning blade.

For those who want to know where, when to and how fish, plus what types of fish are available, then this is the thread for you!  Personally, I have learned a lot!  :o  8)
"You can't let praise or criticism get to you. It's a weakness to get caught up in either one." - John Wooden

Pigskin

Well, Fish and Game was out again this weekend. The focus this weekend was boat safety, and they were handing out a lot of tickets. Also, many Manitoba fishermen believe if they have a Manitoba license, they can fish in Ontario, This is not true. In Manitoba at the age of 16 you are required to buy a fishing license, however in Ontario you are not require to by a fishing license or your outdoor card until your 18.

Under sized and over sized fish was another big issue.

It's bummy anglers like those who give the rest of us a bad name, which is to say nothing of them ruining habitats and putting needless stress on fish populations with their insufferable stupidity. I'm glad to hear the COs were out; they must be pretty busy dealing with all the dummies.

Man, it's staggering how many idiots seemed to have come out of the woodwork the last few years.

Just got back from a little Manitoba fishing trip. Started in Pine Falls. A few nice walleye but pretty slow fishing. My buddy likes the anchor and jig method. Not my cup of tea, but it was his boat.

Moved on to Lac Du Bonnet. Slow fishing to begin with, so started trolling with bottom bounces and little joe's. Landed a couple of beauties so we threw out the anchor and jigged for awhile with 3/8 oz. green/white jigs and frozen minnows. Caught a couple of small walleye, but nothing we could keep. So, back to trolling with little joe's and worm harness in 12-16'of water and ended up with a number of very nice walleye's.

Up to Bird River. Had a nice wind so we did some drift fishing with 5/8 oz bottom bouncers and little joe's. Fairly steady fishing, but not  a lot of keeper.

Well, two cooler windy days in Kenora. This plays right into the way I like to fish. I love drift fishing. 3/4 to 1 ounce bottom bouncer with a lindy jig. The fish seem to still be deep, about 18-22' of water. Walleye's are steady. Small mouth and Perch are pretty much one after another on spinners in swallow water.

Excellent morning of fishing. Little to no wind this morning. Went right to walleye rock and started jigging in 20' of water. Slow start, but things heated up went we went to 3/8oz green and white jigs and frozen minnows. Once the bit started we limited out very quickly.

Some great weather ahead going into the last weekend of September.

Heading up to Nopiming Friday morning to try our luck on a few lakes near Beresford. It'll be my first time getting a line in the water all season (much to my ongoing dismay), so I'm practically vibrating in anticipation.

Sounds like the water is pretty high up there after all the rain last week, so I'm not sure if that'll affect the fishing. Time will tell.

Had some time on the Bird River today. Very windy. Had to drift fish with a 1 ounce bottom bouncer and a lindy rig. Really had to work hard but ended up with a few beauties. When out tonight after the wind died down. Fished with with 1/4 ounce jigs and frozen minnows. Pretty steady fishing.

Great long weekend up in Nopiming. Fished Moore and Beresford on Friday, the former spoiling us with a ton of walleye on the vertical jig (1/4 oz. w/ both salties and plastics).
Hit up Stormy on Saturday and while we did land some chunkers, the bite was slow and the sun was brutal.
Made our way into Garner on Sunday but the wind was too much to get the jig going (tried for both walleye and lakers), so we opted to troll the sheltered shorelines and bays instead; landed some nice pike and a few walleye.

I think I need to get a cabin up there. ;D

Yesterday afternoon was beautiful fall fishing weather. 16 with a 10 km wind. Slow drift over humps with a 3/8 oz. a green and yellow jig with frozen minnows. Not outstanding, but very steady. Most between 16-18 inch.

Today, wind gusting over 30 km. Far to rough. Switched gears and poured about 400 jigs. With a lot of boats fishing in the channel there will be a big demand for jigs.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Beautiful afternoon yesterday. 20C with little to no wind. Steady fishing between 12 and 20' of water. I think the turn has happened. Most of the boats head to the channel. Lots of snags at the channel which is good for us.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Well, we just had another VG afternoon on the water. Walleye's are still hitting hard, at 12-20' of water, on jigs and frozen minnows. Looks like cooler temps on Wednesday with rain/snow, so Tuesday afternoon could be our last day for the season.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

J5V

I haven't fished in Manitoba in ages. Do the Silver Bass still run for two weeks in June? Man I loved fishing for them. One year they'd be hitting on crayfish and the next year it'd be minnows. Not uncommon to get 20 pounders and terrific fighters. Probably the most fun I've ever had fishing. Can't beat the walleyes for a good feed though.
Go Bombers!

Pigskin

Hearing that Pine Falls is producing some very large walleye's right now at the mouth of the lake. Green/white 1/2 ounce jigs and frozen minnows in 12' of water near the sand beach. Unfortunately, there was also some damage done to a few of the vehicle that were parked near the loading dock.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

Pigskin

Ended up making an unexpected trip to Pine falls this afternoon. Made the trip up to the mouth of the lake. Forgot how cool it can be in a 16 Lund open boat at this time of the year. Fishing was as advertised. Lots of big green backs, many over 22". Ended up with our limit all between 18 and 20". No damage to our vehicle, but my buddy does have a parking pass. Fish and game waiting at the exit checking vehicle for license, size and limits. A few unhappy anglers.
