More info. on him.

Read a draft profile and he kind of sounds like the same kind of player as Philip Hunt was.  Or at least the potential to play the same kind of role...

From what I've read he's more of a rotational end ,,decent against the pass but has issues with run stopping. His main asset is getting off the line quickly but isn't going to strong arm many.

40 seconds of highlight film isn't much, at this point just expecting him to show up at TC, everything beyond is "we'll see".  Hope they bring in many more newcomers, looking forward reinforcing the D-line is the biggest priority at this time IMO.

This is a good start. I would think there will be a number of DL signed before TC.

I hope that we end up with a great barber shop quartet of signed DL... ;)

Any place to get his measureables?  6'2 seems a bit small for a DE in our scheme, unless he has some wingspan.

He's a similar build to Jeffcoat (6'3", 243 lbs.).

Excellent. There is a rookie DE spot to be won this year and whoever it is will have a big opportunity to get lots of snaps.

Rookies always sound good when they get added for TC rosters. I don't know much about him. However, those stats show a good combination of DT's, sacks, forced fumbles and knockdowns in only 31 starts.

He may be raw but I'd take that as having a good football IQ and nose for the ball. In that sense a similar raw skill set to our starters.

At the moment he's the only rookie DE on the roster. On paper good college stats.

We'll see how he does in TC. You never know if early signed rookies even make the main camp. Could be anywhere from 1st cut to making the AR as a DI.

Wingspan 80", Jeffcoat 80 3/4, Jefferson 82 1/2

Hand 9 5/8, Jeffcoat 9 5/8, Jefferson 9 1/2

Jump 28", Jeffcoat n/a, Jefferson 33 1/2

Not sure that's a huge difference, but it will be interesting to see how he does in TC.  Also, the scouting site has him at OLB, whereas the Jeffs were both listed as DE's...

It must be Groundhog Day, this is the same D.E. we were discussing a few weeks ago, didn't realize it till I looked at his 35 second high-light reel!

It depends on the system/front (4-3/3-4) but in general OLBs still rush the passer and are very often edge contain on run plays. They also drop into coverage occasionally (not totally unlike what we do with our DEs at times). One of the main differences is OLBs don't have a hand on the ground before the snap like a DE does.

Willie Jefferson was a DE in college and an OLB in the NFL.

The average size of an NFL DE is 6'4" and 277 lbs, so this Sterling would have to play OLB if he wanted an NFL look.

But a little over 6 feet and 240-250 lbs works fine for a CFL DE.

Sounds promising, we got the guys that can develop him if he is teachable and has the right skill set for our game
