Anyone hear about any PR players from the CFL opting / signing in the XFL? Their TC's start in January.

what are you taking about!?!? Lawler lays out for catches as good as or better than anyone big or small. Same with Burnham. Ditto for Ryhmes. And Eugene Lewis. And Shoen dove for many passes this year and I distinctly remember him getting s diving TD catch in BC. And Rasheed  bailey has made several diving specstular catches.  The Bombers have placed an emphasis on a receivers ability to block and have gone away from the small body reciever and rightfully so. Sure dressler and smith used to lay out for passes, but they couldn?t block a sneeze. And they were hurt quite a bit too.

It just stands to reason that if you have two receivers of equal ability you go with the bigger guy. However, receivers like Nelson, Grant, and even Demski are all under 6'. That being said, yes, we have definitely gotten bigger as a receiving corps. A lot of that has to do with DBs tending to get a lot bigger now too.

For sure. The days of the Davis Sanchez- smaller sized DB is over. Bigger stronger DB s means bigger stronger receivers

Were you as disappointed in Ellingson as I was? For a big receiver I don't recall him imposing his size out there. Injuries?

I was disappointed that Ellingson only played a handful of games. I'm going to get flamed for this, but he was a poor signing. Coming off a bad season, at an advanced age isn't the receiver we should have been looking for.

Easy to say he was a poor signing in hindsight. Through a third of the 2022 season, he was the league's leading receiver in yardage and receptions, second in TDs, and had developed a really solid chemistry with Collaros. He and Schoen were the early bright spots on the offense when the run game had yet to establish itself.

Injuries evidently derailed his season but I can't agree he was a poor signing at free agency.

That being said, I fully expect the team to pass on re-signing him going into 2023.

I wouldn't say a poor signing, but definitely a risky one.  He looked great for the first third, but if we hadn't lucked out with Schoen, then Ellingsons injuries would have put a large crimp in the season.  I would be looking for another top receiver in free agency.  But I might sign Ellingson to a games-played kind of deal until we see if Schoen is coming back.

Yes, what you say is true.  But Lawler isn't with us anymore, neither all those other guys, except Schoen.  But Schoen wasn't a diver: not like Dressler and Lawler.  If he sort of dove or slid-caught, it's not really the same thing.  He was an upright receiver most of the time.  I'm sure if you think back to what Dress would do weekly you'll see the difference with Schoen.

The only guys who can make those catches these days are literally Lawler, Burnham (now gone) and Lewis.  Rhymes doesn't really fit the bill.  Even Lawler and Burnham never really dove like Dress.  Dress would just fly.  Cahoon used to do that too.

I dunno, it just seems like instead of having the treat of seeing that type of stuff weekly, we get maybe a couple/few in a whole season.  Maybe I'm just bitter Schoen didn't dive to haul in that tone-setting GC first drive explosion.  Maybe I'm also just romanticizing the ghost of CFL talent past.

Why do you want our receivers to be diving to make every catch?  That usually means the ball is poorly thrown and no yards after the catch?

Bit of a strawman ("every").  And ya, no YAC.  But diving circus catches becoming a lost art in the CFL means:

1. Less entertainment value for the fans (ask any Greenie fan how much they miss Dressler)

2. More incompletions.

Are you telling me you wouldn't have rather seen Schoen make that GC explosion catch whilst diving vs dropping it off his fingertips??

Sure I would have like to see Schoen catch that pass, but then we would have went 2 and out and we would have missed the field goal!!!
