American wide receiver Oliver Martin (6-1, 200, Nebraska, November 3, 1998, in Coralville, IA)

Blue Bombers sign Oliver Martin, who caught NFL preseason passes from QB Nathan Rourke

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American receiver Oliver Martin.

The six-foot-one, 200-pound target went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft but signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars soon thereafter. He made three catches for 17 yards during the preseason and caught a two-point conversion from former CFL quarterback Nathan Rourke.

Martin made 25 catches for 405 yards and two touchdowns over three collegiate seasons at the University of Nebraska (2020-22). He reportedly ran a 4.53-second forty-yard dash at his pro day along with a 41-inch vertical jump and an eleven-foot, two-inch broad jump.

The 24-year-old had previous stints at Michigan and Iowa before transferring to the Cornhuskers. He caught 11 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown with the Wolverines in 2018 before making five catches for 28 yards and one touchdown with the Hawkeyes in 2019.

BLUE BOMBERS ADD RECEIVER MARKEITH AMBLES TO PRACTICE ROSTER

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announced the addition of veteran receiver Markeith Ambles to the practice roster.

Ambles (6-1, 190; University of Houston; born: November 26, 1991, in McDonough, GA) joins the Blue Bombers after stints with the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts this season and brings 50 games of Canadian Football League experience to Winnipeg.

He had 15 receptions for 193 yards in four games this year with the Stampeders before his release in late September. He had returned to Calgary, where he began his CFL career in 2018, following his release by Toronto in August and after missing the first couple of months of the season with the Argos due to an ankle injury.

Ambles set career highs last year with the Argos, pulling in 72 passes for 737 yards and five touchdowns. He started in both playoff games for Toronto last November and had three catches for 47 yards in the Grey Cup win over the Blue Bombers on November 20th. Ambles was also part of the Stampeders Grey Cup team in 2018.

Over his 50 regular season games, Ambles has recorded 204 receptions for 2,329 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Ambles began his college days at USC, but left the school after one year, played one season at Arizona Western before joining Houston. In 23 games over two seasons with the Cougars he had 49 receptions for 791 yards and five touchdowns.

Blue Bombers have added 31-year old receiver Markeith Ambles to their practice roster. Injuries to Dalton Schoen and Rasheed Bailey have left the Bombers thin at the receiver position. Their status for the Nov. 11th West final is unknown.

Now that talk of a dynasty are crushed it will be interesting to see what happens this offseason.

Sharks will be out to sign the Bombers stars including the GM and coaches.
