Blue Bombers agree to terms on one-year extension with defensive back Winston Rose

WINNIPEG, MB., February 1, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American cornerback Winston Rose to a one-year contract extension.

He was scheduled to become a free agent next week.

Rose
(6-0, 171; New Mexico State; born: November 29, 1993, in Inglewood, CA) returns in 2022 for a third season with the Blue Bombers and his fourth in the Canadian Football League.

The league's interception leader and a CFL All-Star in 2019, Rose turned that success into a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals that winter, officially signing with the National Football League squad on December 31, 2019.

He spent most of 2020 on the Bengals' practice roster but did suit up for two regular season games. Rose was waived and added to Cincinnati's practice roster at the end of training camp in 2021 before being released on September 6th.

The cornerback returned to the CFL and the Blue Bombers on October 20th last fall and started the final three regular season games and both the Western Final and the 108th Grey Cup. He had five tackles in the trio of regular season games and added seven more in the playoffs.

A veteran of 43 CFL games with Ottawa, B.C. and Winnipeg, Rose has 116 career tackles and 14 interceptions - nine of them as a member of the Blue Bombers.

He first came to Canada in 2016 as a late practice-roster addition in Toronto after NFL stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts before being waived and signed by Ottawa.

Great re-signing!

Winston Rose & Deatrick Nichols make up a fantastic shutdown boundary duo.

I can see the Walters saving himself some $$ on field side by going with Houston @ FHB & newly signed Donovan Olumba @ FCB. Then hopefully Darby returns to fill-in for Alexander (re-signed and put on IR) and get Maston back for SAM.

Rose is one of the few I thought we might lose to FA.  Made my day hearing we signed him!  I don't think KW offered him the moon, so I'm guessing he really wants to be here.

If we did offer him more than we'd expect, maybe we did it to ensure BC doesn't snap him up and reunite the Rose/Sayles powerhouse.

And... Rose & Strevy get along great... this can't hurt a potential Strevy return...

Glad Rose is back. I was pretty sure he would be back as I didn't see him taking another shot at the NFL. I think most of the 2021 Bomber team will be returning unless the money is not close. Lawler looks like he might fall in that category as BC has offered him a contract that the Bombers are going to find hard to come close.

Excellent. I was worried we might lose him to another CFL team.

Kinda funny, one of the photos in the re-signing article is of Ezekiel Rose not Winston
