Zach Watch? I get it.  Hope he is ok.

What will coach O say today? My guess is: lower body injury and we need to watch film. Ha! I wouldn?t say anything either. Mumble something about next man up and move on.

I don't think there will be a report until Wednesday when the Bombers return to practice in Regina. I don't expect ZC8 to practice until Friday at the earliest.

Look what Rourke was able to do on a foot held together with screws, pins, and plates. I suspect Zach will be fine, much to the Argos chagrin.

He's fine.

Said he could have come out for the last drive, but it was just going to be hand offs.

the truth will be known on Sunday evening.  He could barely walk...High ankle sprains are brutal to deal with.  He will gut it out as best he can...all we are going to hear this week is that it is good and he is playing.  We may even see him in a boot...it will be the storyline for sure.

blue_gold_84

Looked like a tweak but he seemed to be walking okay post-game. It doesn't sound like he's too concerned but hopefully we get some sort of update in the next day or so.

I doubt we see him a boot and I fully expect he'll be ready for the big show on Sunday.

Spats and shots.. if Streveler can win a GC on a broken foot, Zach can do it with a sprain...

The Oline will just have to work harder to protect him, and BO20 and RB88 will have to passblock more...

And there will be a steady stream of DP12 coming in...

Haha, keep dreaming Goldie!  Read Tiger's post, he knows.  We're not going to be told anything useful, and if we were, it's probably a ruse (a la Bailey GTD with no dressed backup).

The only way we find out anything useful is if it's so bad that he gets a boot or surgery and thus WFC can't hide it.

I bet we don't know until the roster comes out.  Actually, I bet we GTD him on the roster and we don't know squat until just before the first drive and see who's running on the field... Sad, but likely true.

If there is a silver lining, post-game when he was with his wife, she didn't look too concerned or upset.  If he told her it was serious, her mood probably would have been different.  Would he lie to his wife for optics??  Doubtful, but maybe?

Collaros was limping after the game, not walking properly. Of course he thinks he's ready to go. I'll wait to see how much he practices this week before I guess if he's gonna be available for the GC.

The tweet says he'll be "available" for the GC.  Doesn't mean he won't be immobile or limping or "pulling a Strevie".

We can't get too carried away in either direction.  He might very well be near 100% on Sunday.  It might have not been bad.  The cold by the end of the game might have made it seem worse.  But... it also might be worse than it looked.  He might be completely immobile in the pocket or not play at all.  I just don't see how we can know until game day?

They are saying available because they found no structural damage I assume. We shall see what he does this week and the pain factor. But I recall 1991, the first Grey Cup here when the unavailable Matt Dunigan started to the surprise of all. And won. I think Calgary was demoralized just seeing him on the field.  I half wish we would say he can't go and then start him.

I don't think this Grey Cup game is going to be one where there is a lot of throwing the football. It's going to be cold, probably windy, and that field is going to be frozen rock-hard solid. I am not sure it's a game where Zach or MBT, two QBs that like to throw the ball, are going to excel. Frozen footballs are hard to throw and they're harder to catch.

If Zach can't go who gives us the better chance to win, Dru Brown or Dakota Prukop?  I'm wondering if it's Prukop. He's bigger, stonger, might be faster, and might be exactly the kind of cold weather stud QB you need to win a CFL football game in the frozen confines of Mosaic.

If I'm the Bombers I'm okay with an offensive strategy of BO, BO, BO and a mix of Demski, Sheed, Shoen, and Prukop taking off with it every once in a while mixed in. I'm not sure it could be stopped and would showcase what is arguably the best offensive line in the CFL.

If I'm the Argos I'm thinking this is going to be a nasty game of smash-mouth trench warfare and the team with the best dogs is ultimately going to be hoisting Lord Stanley's mug on Sunday. I can't wait.

Lord Earl Grey my man!

I think there will be more air than you think.  Neither team will win by the ground alone.  I would expect we'll have another 200-ish yards game.  Since MBT is a slinger, I'd expect him to top 300 as he almost always does, especially if they get behind.

The Brown/Prukop is a great question, I've been thinking about it too.  Obviously you're dressing all 3 guys.  I think you're right about the guys vis a vis the cold.  Prukop might be the better choice as he can also give you the Strevie run threat every play.  Brown is a better passes and sees the field better.  Could do a Strevie-type platoon if Zach isn't playing.

The reason I think it's gonna be a ground-and-pound type of game is because both secondaries can be lethal. Throwing the ball in bad weather is seldom a good idea and could prove suicidal.

Of the 3 Bomber QBs, methinks only 1 gives you a runner's edge, and that's Prukop.  He's our Streveler and we could very well need him to be.

Sure, but that goes out the window as soon as a team gets down 2 scores after the half.  Whoever finds themself in that position will be chucking that ball come 4th Q!  Let's hope it's not us.  Let's hope the game doesn't come down to our D having to stop MBT from chucking a couple deep ones to get in FG range with 0:00 on the clock...

We'll see how the wind shakes out.  As the forecast stands it'll be a slight problem.  If it dies down closer to game day, it'll be a non-factor.  That would open the door to more air plays, even with the cold.

I rewatched the Zach injury play and replays a few times.  We need someone who has dealt with an injury like this to chime in.  His foot was at least 90 degrees (possibly 100-110) pointing outwards from his body.  I'm trying right now to get my foot to do that and it gets real painful and stuck at around 45 degrees.  So his foot was twisted much more than is healthy, that's for sure.

The pain/stretch seems to start on the inwards side of the foot, not the ankle.  It doesn't look pleasant on Zach.  At its max twist it is very unnatural looking.

However, nothing looks broken or out of whack when it pops back.

The next sideline shots show him taking a happy pill.  That explains his exuberant post-game interview.  :D :D :D  He said he felt great because he really did!  No cares in the world.   ;D ;D ;D

Praying for Zach... want to seem him play, but we can't give him a lifelong injury by being cavalier, and it's not just because I'm altruistic: we have him on guaranteed contract for 3 more years!

Not too concerned.  Our air attack is solid, and he will be able to use quick reads and dimes dropped deep.

My concern, really, for the game is the Argo's running game.

Harris is a problem, sure.  But Ouellette scares me.  If he gets going, and finds some space downhill, he's a load to stop.

If we can stop the run game, I am sure we can rattle MBT enough to make him ineffective.  Buck coached him here for a bit in 2016... might have a tendency to exploit.

Once we stopped BC's run game the gig was up for them.   This time will be tougher because we can't just key on Harris as Ouelette can thunder for big yards as well.   It's a two headed dragon we need to slay....a challenge for Ricky Hall for sure!

You won't see both on the field on every play but we'll have to be aware of their run game. Defence won't have to worry about a running QB ( like Rourke ) and can focus on their RB.

Alright, alright, let's be serious here. I, for one, am very glad to hear Zach was walking without discomfort. The weather report for Sunday doesn't look too bad but of course, that can change between now and then. A healthy Zach will be a very welcome sight. Ouellette is a young'in.  AH33 is the veteran beast, and from the looks of it this might be AH's final game because his body is clearly falling apart.  I'm more worried about AH throwing all caution to the wind and having a game for the ages: IF he gets the help he needs from that OL.

Ouellette was born in Ohio and U in Ohio, and Ohio has winter, but it ain't like Regina.  I think Ouellette will be as cocky as Butler was but it only modestly effective.  I bet the cold causes him to cough one up at least once.

Seemed like a relatively good sign. He may have had a slight caution walking but not far off normal. No boot etc.

I'd think he may be " limited " a bit in practice but that's not unusual for a vet QB needing to heal more. Brown needs to get a few additional reps in case he needs to play at some point in the game.

No worries at the moment.

Who was the player on crutches? Looked like one of the DB's maybe Thompson. Nice to see the IR guys going to the game.

I believe Harris and Ouellette will be coming at us hard and often. Possibly with mostly Ouellette carrying the ball but not necessarily so.Although he is a big fellow and can block for Andrew too.
If we can limit that part of their game we will be fine. They are definitely going to try to wear that DL down.

The bigger danger IMO is Harris or Ouellette catching screen passes 10 yds. down field and rumbling for 20 more through the secondary.  Against the Als Harris caught 1/30 yds. and Ouellette caught 2/53 yds.  This is a very hard play to defend against as it's usually ad-libbed, hopefully Hall assigns Darby to spy the RB sneaking out of the backfield.

Zach seemed to be fine, but there is a bit of a hitch im his step after he got off the stairs.

I'm not saying he's hurt, but if his plant leg is even a bit off, that does affect things.

With Prukop on the roster, I hope we see him in more often, on running downs especially, to take options and maybe some deep throw trick plays on second and short.

Oh, he is hurt. But he is walking well, not perfect but good enough for Tuesday. They will be giving that ankle laser therapy a couple of times per day till Sunday, and I am sure he will be much better by then.

I think that regardless of Collaro's health, the Argos are a formidable team to play against. They are hungry fellas that want a championship. They got the right management and players. They will be hard to beat on any day of the week.

Who was the player on crutches? Looked like one of the DB's maybe Thompson. Nice to see the IR guys going to the game.

I couldn't make out the face, and it's not one I immediately recognize, so probably one of the B team guys.  You could be right, could be Thompson, looking at his cfl.ca pic.

IR, PR, everyone goes to the GC for the Bombers. Our IR and PR players are some of our biggest cheerleaders at the home games. The boys are always dancing on the sidelines and pumping up the crowd.

Collaros did not practice today but Mike did say that he will start on Sunday.  The only thing that bothers me is the weather and field in Regina.  A slippery field could aggravate the injury to the extent that may hamper him.  Heres hoping everything goes well.

You'd think so, but when forced from the pocket MBT actually runs quite well, he can easily pick up 10-15 yds. if he finds open space.  He's not as big or fast as Cornelius but he's still hard to bring down, he's also tough as nails.

Yup, MBT is kind of invincible.  I don't think he's ever missed a game due to injury.  He can take unlimited sacks and whacks and just bounces back up and looks at you with those crazy eyes.

He's not the fastest, but if there's green field in front, he'll take off.

Hopefully what happened to Zach wasn't too serious, no major muscle tears or ligament damage. If that's the case, it's amazing what a week of physio can do. If it is more serious, pain management, a brace, and/or a good tape job can do wonders too.

You can bet there are players on both sides suffering similar maladies. No team is 100% healthy at this stage of the season. Plenty of bumps and bruises on the Argo side too.

Pain thresholds vary amongst players and some cope better than others. This isn't baseball. You can bet Rourke has endured plenty of pain during his two playoffs games and that is another thing he is to be admired for. The guy gutted it out in must-win situations and he got his team close. There is no doubt in my mind that Zach will gut it out in similar fashion. The guy refuses to even acknowledge there is an issue.

Might have to do that anyway based on the forecast (wind 30kmh gusting to 50)
Money is no object...especially when you have none.

Winning the coin toss and deferring until the 2nd half maybe a huge factor with that wind.

If I remember correctly, the wind from the northwest will not affect the play.  If it is from the southwest it will give the team that is going south to north the advantage.  The south end of Mosaic is fairly open.

The weather app says at 5:00pm in Regina it will be -3 (feels like -10) with the wind out of the west northwest at 24km/h.

Wind is supposed to diminish as evening approaches so I'd say take it in the first half.

Pigskin

At 8 pm the weather app. says -5 wind 22km's gusting to 35. So really not a great difference. MOS can also cross that bridge at half time if we win the toss.

In my opinion Zach?s injury had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. He was moving just fine he just made mental errors and they were not utilizing the playaction pass.

I think while the injury may not have been an issue, concern for aggravating it certainly was.  Not utilizing the playaction pass was protecting his ankle.  They should have given him the full package, the playbook we won 16 games this season with, but it looked like he was dealing with a fraction of it, and that TOR took advantage of that.

So, maybe it wasn't the injury itself that lost the game.  But it did factor in.

Yes, it was not really affecting his mobility, not more than 10-20%.  He looked pretty good.  But I think it was affecting his mindset.  In the 4th he was getting happy feet (ya, after getting blown up a few times), and pulling-a-Cody even when his pocket was still secure.  That was costing us 2nd down conversions all night.

He definitely didn't look like cool, calm Zach back there for a lot of the night.  I don't really blame him.  He didn't lose this game for us.  Even that Henoc pick was a just a great play by Henoc and great scheming from the DC.  WPG got out-Winnipegged in many respects.  They took our formula and killed us with it.

I'm looking at it like this:

Legs would have needed to be perfect to win the game for us.

The rest of the team wasn't even performing at an average level. I expect more from Buck, Zach, the OL before I even get to asking Legs to perform better.

Here is where I am with Leggs, in big games you have to hit single points, he missed three in the playoffs. I am not happy with the missed singles and feel we need to be better, maybe Leggs can be the guy moving forward or maybe we need competition.

At the end of the day his missed single turned out to be the difference between going to overtime or not. I am disappointed we didn't at least get the chance at OT. Leggs was not the only reason we lost but he was one reason.

This is the correct answer.

We saw a week earlier how a team effort and execution led to a win. That same team effort and execution, or lack thereof, resulted in a close loss last Sunday.

He's a half-decent kicker that has shown he crumbles under pressure multiple times now, if they can find better they should, same goes for any other position.
