Good news for all the other teams in the west.  Dickenson is a terrible head coach who lost the team in the final half of the season.  O'Day is a terrible GM who lived off Chris Jones work for a couple seasons before the lack of talent became apparent this year.

Expect a last place finish for the Riders in 2023.  Love it!

Great point.  Ya, you totally take that gig.  You make whatever TSN pays ($60-$100k?) for a 3rd string analyst, plus your oodles ($500?) guaranteed HC money.  That is how you win big in the CFL!    Year after that you sign as OC in basically your pick of desperate teams, or ride into the sunset.

Ridersfans has a topic about Coaches Cap being bad for the CFL.  I think they may have a point.  It really hamstrings teams when they make a bad GM/HC/OC/DC choice.  They get punished for years and it delays the team "rebuild".  In the SSK situation it basically forces the team to keep CD/JOD when almost certainly one/both would have been fired otherwise!

I think Khari will take a run at the Ottawa HC job rather than the Rider OC position.  No guarantee he gets it, as I think Dyce, Maas, and Benevides will also be in the hunt for it as well, but I think he tries.

Bene is still DC in OTT.  Not sure if this is a contract year for him, though.  I could see him staying with OTT.

BLM will get a Brinks truck full of cash signing in SSK

But BLM was sucking pretty badly in late '19, much of '21 and most of '22.  He's lost it.  If SSK is dumb enough to pay BLM big money I would wager he'll be even worse than Cody.  Even if SSK manages to put together a respectable OL, I think noodle arm, buggy cross-eyed Bo poops the joint up.  And at that point SSK fans will be really really mad.  But at least CD/JOD would go out with a bang.

I really think SSK makes a play for some other QB.  I have no idea who.  But they need to find someone who can win.  Masoli, Corny, MBT, or even (gasp) T.Harris (ya some of those guys are tied up).  That Kelly kid looked pretty darn good in TOR when he had only #2s to throw to... just 1 game, but he might be the next kid to watch.

Coacing cap is bad for the CFL.  Horrible, in fact.  Makes Jones?lapo wear too many hats and fail, makes SSK keep coaches/GM that fail, prevents WPG from rewarding and extending coaches long term to big contracts.  Not a great situation.

Head office is not like roster.  You can't juggle contracts.  Contracts are guaranteed.  No "6 game IR" you can put a coach with brain cramps on.

Cap makes zero sense.

QB - I would keep Fajardo unless you find a better option?and I am not so sure Bo Levi is right now. Although he might attract some FA linemen to town.

RB - Hickson & Morrow is a duo you can win games with.

Rec - I like their Canadian receivers but would replace every one of their American receivers.

OL - when your MOL is Ferland - who would be on the BB PR all year - you have found your biggest issue on the entire team. This needs a major overhaul that starts with LT. You cannot expect any QB - not named Fajardo - to want to play behind that OL.

I believe Fajardo is a pending free-agent.

So, they need to:
a) pay big money to entice any free-agent QB to come to Sask
b) send top draft picks to trade for a QB
c) go with young QBs they signed for TC (or probably a washout NFL QB)

I'm guessing OTT was paying Lapo around $500k as he was both HC and OC.  I think Jones is making at least that much in EDM.

Haha, you're nasty!  Part of me wants to see them "pull a 2019 BC", but the part of me that wants to see the CFL succeed is pulling for them to turn it around.  Definitely of two minds on SSK!

The funny thing about BLM is most SSK fans would see it as a great move and buy their STHs.  Only 6 games in would they realize he is worse than Cody.  Then the anger builds again and they all swear off STH for 2024.  But then SSK can fire JOD/CD after the '23 season and get a different, promising QB.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  You could play those fans for a decade like that!

But I do feel SSK fans pain.  I read their forums and it's just like 2013-2014 Bombers forum.

Would we have O'Shea without a coaching cap? Still, they got to make it easier for a franchise to recover from a bad choice.  Removing the cap just creates a new problem. Something has to change within the cap.
