When can teams start building practice squads? Once the waiver claim period ends, teams can begin to sign players to their practice squads. This year, that means after noon on Wednesday.

In order to be allowed to return during the season injured players must first be placed on a team?s 53-man regular season roster. Beginning at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday teams can place those players on the Injured Reserve or Reserve/Non-Football Injury lists. Players placed on those lists at or after that time have to miss at least four regular season games.

We are not deep in WR. Ellingson is in 6-gamer, Grant on 1-game, Agudosi is done, not sure on Orange. No WR is in PR.
Opponents are keying on Schoen and Demski. Bailey has a down season. Need another threat to open up the offense.
If we can't afford, Zylstra, how can we afford Desjarlais he definitely will command a bigger $ and a bidding war among teams.

Michel would be a good option also. Both can return kick as well.

Affording Desjarlais vs. Zylstra.  Desjarlais is an upgrade, plays every down on O, and protects out most valuable asset.  Zylstra, or any WR, gets a handful of touches a game.  and while he does improve the overall talent of the pool, not sufficiently to blow any remaining SMS on.  Desjarlais (and Kongbo) have ties to the organization already, and would be long term as well.  I fear a Zylstra would be gone to the highest bidder next year if he signed here.

Desjarlais and Kongbo strengthen the team, strenthen the ratio and are part of the group already, so would integrate back in seamlessly.

I think my logic scans well, the caveat is $SMS... not sure how much Walters kept in the kitty for NFL returns...
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

You make a very compelling point.

Trenches come first. Getting Desjarlais back on the O-line would be a massive upgrade. Same with Kongbo on the defensive side. Zylstra would be a nice addition but I don't think he's a necessity by any means.

Well said, Aardsy.

There are about 850 players waiting to see if they get picked up on waivers or assigned to a PR. Depending on overall injuries to be declared that will leave 250-300 in limbo so to speak.

In any case some of those players will be coming north to be added to CFL PR's for the most part. A few will be good enough to be quickly added to game day rosters across the league.

Anyone know when our PR lists get increased to 17?

Denver signed DE McTelvin Agim, T Quinn Bailey, DE Jonathan Harris, CB Faion Hicks, WR Kendall Hinton, QB Josh Johnson, OLB Jonathan Kongbo, ILB Kana'i Mauga, CB Ja'Quan McMillian, G Netane Muti, RB Devine Ozigbo, TE Dylan Parham and WR Darrius Shepherd.
Each NFL team is eligible to have 16 players on its practice squad, including six veteran players with no experience limits.

This make it pretty simple for the Bombers. If Drew doesn't sign on to a NFL PR, throw money at him and sign him for a couple of years.

Yup. That leaves Desjarlais as the one to hope for returning to the CFL.

This was the biggest, best hope anyway.

There are a number of players we are watching to see if they will get NFL roster or PR spots. DB is a position we need to address. With BA37 coming back, we mite be okay. But if we could get a player like Erik Harris, or Channing Stribling, it mite worth it with all the players have been getting injured.

Stribling was in the 1st or 2nd round of cuts. I doubt he makes a PR in this round but he might choose to stick around waiting for injuries.

Patriots did not sign drew to the PR

I hope Mr. Walters is on the phone right now.

Good for us perhaps but not good for him. In theory he could be back in Winnipeg by the weekend if he chooses. A new 2 year contract still gives him an NFL option in February and a chance at play off money in the mean time. It might even mean another Grey Cup ring.

So as far as coming back to the CFL, why wouldn't he choose the Bombers.

It's whether he chooses to act now or wait. I would think he'd make a decision one way or the other quickly. Which way he leans is TBD. If he doesn't re-sign in the next week, I think he's waiting for another NFL team to add him to their PR.

Rosters will be shuffled before and after the 1st NFL game.
