True Aadvark but sadly too many NFL players do not have money years after playing for varios reasons.  I am friends with someone who was in the NFL and was careful with his money.  In fact he drove his college beat up pick up truck the first 3 years because he was nervous about being cut and injury.  Some of the stories of his team mates would make your toes curl. That said the money has greatly improved since he played in the late 80s and 90s. But also considered the low number of years played at a larger salary.

Pensions are not that much.  Starting at 55, they average about $43k.  Average.  Which means 1/2 of them are lower than that.  I beleive the minimum s around $20k.

It is based on the number of seasons played.

A "season" means that you were on the roster for 3 games.  Roster.  Regular or postseason roster.  Not preseason, not practice.  So you have to dress for 3 games to get credited with a season.

Yes, a pension is a nice thing to get as a bonus.  "Free" money, for sure.  But its far from life changing, and hard to earn.
interesting....it would be great to see CFL players receiving a pension however I doubt there is enough financial resources to fund a pension plan....football is a precarious profession at best unless you're a marquee player in the NFL earning a multi million dollar figure....

From Schefter:

Jets informed QB Chris Streveler, who helped lead the team to an unbeaten preseason and also led the team in rushing yards this summer, that they plan to release him Tuesday, per source.

Most unfortunate. IIRC he's something like 3 - 6 games on the active roster somewhere to qualify for his pension. I assume he will hope to be picked up by another team but he's up against it at the moment.

Does he decide to return to the CFL for the balance of 2022 and try again in 2023, or sit by the phone?

So what does Strev have to do to land a job?

Be a recent college player fresh out of university and get drafted. That bridge has been crossed.  He has to be better than some NFL QB's currently on rosters.

Its not like he came in and led thm to come from behind wins... oh wait...

But then again, its against the other teams 3's and 4's...

Regardless, he seemed a very popular guy on the team and in the locker-room, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer him a PR spot.

His regular season nfl resume hurts him a bit.  He may get a PR spot somewhere.  He would start on over half of the teams in the CFL

Maybe but why announce they are releasing him tomorrow when they could just say they plan to PR him?

Maybe he declined a PR spot?

That's probably a stretch but he could be a very useful acquisition to several teams. The issue now is SMS hit.

Almost certainly he waits to get picked up, or failing that, for an injury replacement call during the season.  There is absolutely no incentive for him to play a partial CFL season at this point.

If he doesn't get the call, then there are pretty good odds he would enter CFL free agency for 2023.  He would get a look from Ottawa, Hamilton, Regina, possibly Montreal, probably BC if Rourke goes south.  There will definitely be some quarterbacks moving this of season, but I don't think Streveler has to think about that until February.

none shocker to be. Guy was clearly being played in pre season as the 4th stringer. He was making plays against very weak opponents. At his age he IS really up against it. The next few days gotta be stressful for him so close to a pension. I say 50/50 another team picks him up for a PR spot. I do not think he makes a roster to get that pension.
