Looks like Alford has made the 53 man roster of the Atlanta Falcons.

Do any of the Bombers have to return to Winnipeg or can all choose other CFL teams?

they are all free agents as they would have been had they remained in cfl. Teams retain rights I believe if they were under contract and used nfl signing window or they were drafted and not signed before going to nfl

Kongbo just released as well

He was unsuccessful in his NFL effort in 2021. In that sense I think he returns to the CFL. As a veteran he'd still have an NFL option to try again in 2023 if he chooses to do that.  It might ll be out of his system at this point though.

You'd think his 1st choice would be Winnipeg with playoff money in the cards and being an ex Bomber.

SMS shouldn't be a problem. He's still a rotational player but his NI status is beneficial.

Desjarlais SMS is going to be higher and their may be CFL teams trying to sign him besides the Bombers. That said, which teams have more money in their SMS and be willing to pay more than the Bombers.

Realistically if he returns to the CFL I'd expect him back in Winnipeg.

I don't see us inquiring about Zylstra. Might be a nice addition but could be an expensive addition. Really depends on the real prognosis on Ellingson.

I think every CFL team would like to try and sign the NFL releases, but really depends how much money each club left this season and what money is available for 2023.

Can't see many of the cuts coming up north, until they try and catch onto another NFL clubs the next month or so.

All the info, including players from other teams, is here:

Desjarlais and Kongbo have no CFL rights holders, so presumably can go to any team.

I would like a Brandon Zylstra here.

Hmmm many cuts to choose from but in terms of our current need (assuming all are coming back)...
1. Zylstra
2. Desjarlais
3. Kongbo
4. Streveller

Would be happy if we get any 2 of those.

Can't afford Zylstra, and we are deep at WR
Dejarlais, must have if he comes back to the CFL
Kongbo, see above
Strevelski, can't afford him, don't "need" him.  Would love him back, but he's not coming back anytime soon.  And for those who question his passing, he did pretty well this preseason... he has upped his game for sure.
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

We are not deep in WR. Ellingson is in 6-gamer, Grant on 1-game, Agudosi is done, not sure on Orange. No WR is in PR.
Opponents are keying on Schoen and Demski. Bailey has a down season. Need another threat to open up the offense.
If we can't afford, Zylstra, how can we afford Desjarlais he definitely will command a bigger $ and a bidding war among teams.

Michel would be a good option also. Both can return kick as well.

The RedBlacks have Arbuckle who's a far better passer. I doubt they have the interest or the SMS space to try and coax Streveler into what'd likely be a backup/short yardage/gadget role.

Caleb Evans is also on the roster in Ottawa.

You're overvaluing pre-season play, BTW. It's pretty much glorified practice.

Redblacks obviously don't value Arbuckle at all - they already had him once and gave him up - they were forced to trade for and then to play him due to injury and losing.

Strev would be a perfect complement for them - in the same way we could potentially use him.

Obviously Desjarlais is the #1 target but I hope we're gauging interest with everyone so we're ready to make a move.

This is a really oversimplified take - and I think you know as much. You're ignoring a lot between then (January 2020) and now. The RedBlacks "valuing" a QB over two years ago - under a different GM, BTW - has very little, if not nothing at all, to do with trading for him a month and a half ago when their starting QB was sidelined due to injury. Evidently, Burke values him more than Desjardins ever did but that's neither here nor there. He's effectively the team's starting QB now with Evans backing him up and for short yardage packages.

Streveler would undoubtedly complement their offense - and many others. The question is whether or not they have the SMS space and if he wants more than just a backup role on a pretty lousy team.

If he does set his sights north, I have to expect the Lions will be a front-runner considering their QB issues at present I have no idea where he ends up now that the Lions have acquired Adams.

I wish all the guys who went to the NFL success but, I expect Kongbo to be back in the CFL soon and I hope it is with us. Having Thiadric and Kongbo to rotate really will help the D-line down the stretch IMO.

Blue In BC

NFL teams will be declaring their PR rosters over the next few days. Might be a bit of teams picking up other cuts from across the league. Usually that's draft choices released or veterans filling a specific need.

Lots of moving parts at the moment. Part of the question is how long to totally free agents wait before looking to the CFL. Obviously that will vary from player to player.

Fingers crossed ( selfishly ) that we get the ex Bombers back.
