TORONTO - The 2022 edition of Touchdown Atlantic has sold out. The CFL's east coast classic between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Argonauts is set to be played at Acadia University in Wolfville, N.S., on July 16 at 3 p.m. AT / 2 p.m. ET. In anticipation of the game, downtown Halifax will be transformed into football central for three days of fun and festivities from July 14-16.

"We're blown away by Atlantic Canada's passion for Canadian football," said CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie.

"From our football celebrations for the whole family, to the action and energy of the big game, we wanted this year's Touchdown Atlantic to offer something for everyone. And all our fans throughout the East Coast and across the country have responded with a firm and resounding message, welcoming CFL football back to this incredible part of the country."

The capacity at Acadia University?s Raymond Field was increased to 10,000 for this year's Touchdown Atlantic contest. Given the quick response, the league has begun exploring options to increase capacity for the region's annual showcase of CFL football.

Yes, this is awesome.    10k sold?  That'll be Argo's highest turnout of the year! 

Although... TOR won the East last year, and they clearly have a championship-capable roster, and the best salesman-GM in the league that everyone loves.  Can they get a big bump in their STH this year??  TOR's such a weird place.  They don't even like a winner.  Keep supporting the never-will-win-it-all Leafs and Jays instead, I guess.

In all seriousness though, good for TD Atlantic.  Should be a great game as both teams will be strong this year.

So why don't they pull a MTL and just use the stadium they are using for this event??  If it can hold 10k, and they can get 6-8k regularly to games, then they are already beating TOR with their brand-new(ish) stadium.  Just spend a couple mil$ on concession upgrades.  Gotta start somewhere.  Can't sit in catch-22 land forever.

It would be short sighted to think because it hasn't happened it won't happen.  There is interest from the league, investors and fans but COVID shot it down when the 2020 season was cancelled.  It would take a lot of work and money from investors and governments but the fact the CFL still generates interest and plays games in that region and gets fan support, suggests it is not a dead issue.

If I had to bet money, I'd put a small wager we'll see a CFL team in the maritimes within 10 years.  I think it would be great!

Putting up a stadium that can handle 15-20k for 9 events a year is not cost effective.  They need an angel investor who wants a stadium named after him to pony up the construction costs.  If IG can be built for $250mil, I'm sure a scaled back version could be put up for $200mil... don't we have ANY friendly Billionaires willing to drop thier pocket change into a stadium?  Anyone have a line in to Elon Musk?  As long as he doesn't use his tunneling company as the name sponsor, who wants to go to the "Boring Stadium" (although, might be on point in Atlantic Canada  ) 

The "Schooners" have been a part of GC tradition for a long time.  It wold be nice to see them come to fruition.

10,000 seats isn't much to fill in considering it's only one game a year.  For an Atlantic team to survive and flourish, they gotta sell 25,000 seats every game as well as produce revenue from merchandise, concert tickets for the stadium as well as cash in on TV and radio revenue for the region.

Selling out a special event in roughly one hour should be viewed as a win regardless of the event's venue's capacity.

I'd say it's market-specific but 20-30K seems to be the ideal threshold for the CFL. IIRC, the capacity for the proposed venue in Halifax was 24K (FWIW at this point considering the whole idea seems to be shelved now).
