Blue Bombers add former Kansas State receiver Dalton Schoen

Of the new receivers, does anyone have a feel as to where they would rank them at this point in time? I have a preference generally towards the taller (over 6' ) candidates like Schoen with good size. However smaller receivers can dominate as well.

I don't think any of us really knows enough to make a hard case for or against any newbie. Coaches will look at criteria in greater detail than we have access to. Who are the precision route runners, good blockers with good hands.


Schoen appears to have good hands and the ability to shield away from the defender. Shows some toughness as well. Can't directly see the entire route running in high lite videos. We see what happens at the end when a reception is made. So that may be a combination of good route running, better speed or some of both.

In either case he appears to have some talent. So he'll be another one to watch in TC.

Looks to be a good possession receiver, much like Ellingson with decent speed but not quick or a burner.  Could work out well if they move Bailey into Lawler's spot and leave Ellingson, Woli and Shoen working down under to fight for the tough balls, with Demski and Bailey running the deep routes stretching the field.  Positive.

I'm not sure if they plan to move Bailey more outside.  But it could well be something they consider during TC regardless of who moves into his spot.

Your analysis on Schoen could be very accurate on his best spot to play.

Interestingly the NFL draft info on Schoen shows he's faster than Bailey and Bailey is faster than Lawler. Obviously speed is not the only reason to move a receive outside but it's an interesting comparison.
