Congrats to former @Wpg_BlueBombers
RB Fred Reid, named today as the RB coach with the @REDBLACKS

Very happy for Freddy...one of my fave Bombers in his time here. Not sure what he can teach them though. He just ran like the wind...lol. One of those guys that could squeeze through a crack in a wall and then looked like the roadrunner after that.

I think that was meant as a tongue-in-cheek comment.

He hasn't played in 5 years.

He's 33... just ripe for Jones to sign in Edm...

Seems like Sergio Castillo just signed with the Elks.

Posted a pic on twitter with him signing the contract and a "Go Elks"

Surprised it took that long... wondering why Toronto moved on, did the rest of their Oline improve that much, or did he go the other way...

Can't hurt the Riders, though... will make Fajardo happier... might give him more time to throw to his goalposts...

I believe that two things happened in To that prompted the Argoes to release him.  First, he had been signed to play in TO this season for 200K and Second, he had a small bonus of 7500 due.  The Exec that signed him was no longer with the team.  The Riders signed him for 130K.  He can play both G and T and is a national.  Really, as far as I can see there was nothing to do with his play...just to much $ for what he did.  TO is up against the Cap also.

I agree. One of many players released or allowed to hit free agency due to SMS re-calculations. Doesn't help their OL being able to protect their QB and open running lanes for Andrew Harris.

In fact signing AH might have cost them Campbell to a certain degree.

It is interesting they have no issue signing AH33... but let a solid Oline ratio breaker leave to sign for $130k in SSK...

My question is, did they not try to re-negotiate?  Or was he uninterested in that?  I'm sure that he would have preferred to stay for the same salary...

Was there something about his season ending injury that factored in?

I really don't know the circumstances on the releasing of Campbell.  I would think that the brain trust considered who to release.  They would then go to the coach responsible to find out his opinion.  No doubt several players were considered but the 200K contract that John Murphy signed him to was a very big consideration.  Also, Murphy must have thought a lot about Campbell to offer him that contract.  Now with no Murphy to fight for him...Pinball Clements had to make the final decision.

I also don't know if Campbell was offered another contract but I do know that Clements stated that he had to let him down easily.  To me that means no contract was offered.

All this is supposition but maybe someone else has what really happened.  Sorry about that.

Did some more digging and I was wrong.  They (Argos) tried reworking his contract but it did not satisfy Campbell and therefore he was released.  Sorce of Article Toronto Sun newspaper

I'm almost giddy with anticipation, the Riders never fail to entertain!

They always wanted him, he just had too big an ask that crazy TOR was willing to pay.  Now they aren't, so back to SSK for more reasonable money (I'm sure).  The only question now is: what color does he retire in?  Red or Green?

My money's on red considering he spent the bulk of his career with the Stampeders and won two championships.
