NO QB, you are going nowhere in this league or the NFL. AS good as Richardson is, his impact is no comparison to a great QB. With salary caps you have to make hard choices at times. It is what it is. If the CFL could ever raise their salary cap we might get less of these situations as each team will have more coin to hand out. Hopefully 2022 is a come back season financially for the league.

More money in the SMS doesn't help. Teams will just pay more to get who they want.  It's still a salary cap whether its' $5M or $10M.

Obviously the QB is the most critical requirement. However my point was whether we could have had both.

We never heard whether Collaros had multiple offers or how close they might have been.

At the moment we only have 1 QB. We're one hit away from Dru Brown at the moment. That's another area where money left in the SMS could have been used. OTOH we're in that same situation in 2021.

More QB's will be looked at during tryouts and we'll probably see a couple more added for rookie camps. Maybe we find a good one for # 2 and # 3 spots.

Collaros is one of the few Qbs that never got hurt last year. Reilly, Harris, BLM, masoli, Evans, arbuckle, Nichols, Davis, and Adams all got hurt. Odds say ZC gets hurt this year and he don?t win anything with brown behind centre, nothing. Major glaring and largely not talked about gaff of this FA. I hold little faith anything coming to training camp will be of use, we held McGuire as #2 for a couple of years and look how well he turned out. This is going to bite us this year.

I agree, we missed the boat by not signing Trevor Harris to be QB #2, he took the Al's up on their offer to be their second string. Opportunity lost, games will be lost should ZC go down this year.

There are still a few teams juggling 3 or more QB's that won't accept a PR spot if they think another team will pick them up, so hopefully a few pop loose.

These are my predictions.

Elks-Dakota Prukop
RB's-Devlin Hodges
Als-Dominique Davis

D*mn straight I'm grabbing Dom off that list!

Most CFL teams are carrying 4 QB's at this time, the Bombers are one of the few carrying only two.

I think kicker might be more urgent now than backup QB. At least we have a starting QB. We don't even have a starting kicker.

We signed Collaros in January before other teams had a chance to make an offer. We paid him what he was worth as the best QB last season and enough to make sure he didn't wait to see what other teams would be willing to offer.

Is it July already? Didn't realize that we ran completely out time to get a backup QB. Darn...I missed half of fishing season.

Fair point. It would have been risky to let him reach free agency. Worth is such a broad concept though. He'll earn his money and he's the best QB in the CFL. We'll never know what he might have been offered if he had reached free agency.

With what has happened with QB's so far this year, we might have overpaid for Collaros, but then again, if he was coming to the market in FA, the whole dynamic might have changed...

Does BC blow its brains out on WR's when they can sign a QB (but would Collaros consider them with their Oline?)   Does Jones drop his pants to sign the MOP and make a statement?  Does Pinball get involved?  Does Burke get in a bidding war?  4 teams who's FA time could have been distinctly different if Collaros is in the mix.

Having signed him, the QB market becomes a lot different, and salaries for what would have been 2nd choices have been fairly tame.  Although, unproven guys got big deals, MBT for $400k makes Collaros at $550k look like a steal.

Walters had to make a call, and while $550k is the largest salary in the league, its not Riley money.  And Collaros is going to earn every penny, I have no doubt.  We have given him all the tools to have another MOP year.  Especially behind the leagues best Oline.

Regarding our Oline this year versus last year. We had a set 8 guys, the starting 5 ( Bryant, Desjarlais, Couture, Neufeld & Hardrick) plus Asotui Eli, Geoff Gray & Chris Kolankowski, the entire 21 season. With the departure of Dejarlais to the NFL, the uncertain situation with Eli, leaves us thin and not in the same position as we were last year in my opinion.

Geoff Gray will definitely slide into Dejarlais spot, he's done it before and we are good there, still makes the starting 5 the best OLine, barring injuries. To my point, Eli and Grey's spots from last year, are a concern to me. Yes, Liam Dobson is a potential replacement/starter and would fit into Eli's #6 spot to start the year, but he's not here. Getting Eli back, solves a lot, again not here or signed... Yes, its only mid Feb as well. Kolankowski has to slide into Grey's spot from last year and we draft an O-lineman either 9th or 18th spot in the draft with focus on centre/guard background. If its late May, we know who is who, it does work with the coaching staff we go forward...

Further, I believe there maybe a need to watch some of the Canadian O-Line cuts come training camp of other teams for a seasoned vet, as today in free agency, I don't see any.... Are any of you, thinking as I am?  or is it .... shut the heck up, sit back, have a beverage and worry not, its early?

We have a seasoned Oline.  Kolankowski has CFL time, and Dobson is a great development project.  Eli or Dejarlais might be back, but no one is counting on that.  And this year's draft will no doubt net us one or two prospects as well.  And there are guys like Speller out there who might pop up...

Barring injuries, which is par for ANY position, we are pretty set, and I am sure that the Mafia has contingency plans...

Thanks, when I was typing in my comments earlier, I have forgotten about Speller at that time (its that aging thing). Had him written down as a free agent target for the Bombers as he did well in 2019 and is still young...
