I think with Adams, Demski, Wolitarski and Bailey we will be just fine in recruiting new SMS friendly WR prospects... so lets spend a little and get Bailey signed, and I'm sure we can sign Adams as well.

What he probably does is anoint him the presumptive starter going into camp to build his confidence. If he actually keeps the top job through preseason and the first game or two, then you come back to him with an extension. The signing bonus on the extension could get him over $150k for this year, and you can probably lock him down for $250k for 2023. After that, you have to pay him market value or he has busted out by then.
And after they scrape him off the turf they can then go out and find an O Line. I can't count the number of times Michael Reilly was clobbered cuz of the O line getting stomped. The camera would follow him off the field and you saw a dejected, sad QB who deserved better.....but as we Bomber fans know, offensive lines don't grow on trees. Hope Kenny Lawlor keeps that in mind if he signs and waiting for a ball to catch |

Lawler signing with BC may not be as done a deal as it looks. The 250k sounds like a lot but its a multiyear contract thats front loaded. I don't think he will be nearly as effective in BC as he was here with the chemistry he had with Collaros where he was the number one go to reciever. His numbers might have a negative effect on any future nfl inquiries..
In BC he wil have to shre the ball with whitehead/burnham/ryhmes and with as stated above an inferior oline.
(as an aside why is it when the Bombers sign someone the salary is well known while with other team its an exception?)

If Lawler doesn't get his NFL shot this off-season, it's probably not going to happen for him. He has to make hay while the sun shines, I don't think he will ever be offered that much money again. That being said, he knows his opportunity to win championships will end if he walks away from the Bombers now. Tough choice. |

There's certainly a strong case that the Bombers can make to retain him, including: - Back with Collaros whom he has great chemistry - Lower cost of living - History of success and playoff money - The clear number one receiver who will be the focal point of the passing game each week - Familiarity of the city and culture Obviously, at some point the dollars will stack up to overcome these things but if the Bombers can get close to that $200k mark then it's not so far off. Players get $3400 for a first round bye or semi-final participation, $3600 for the divisional round, $8000 for losing the Grey Cup and $16,000 for winning. Last year Lawler received $23,000 for the playoffs and the BC Lions received $0. So a $200k offer from the Bombers may result in similar take home pay when you factor in cost of living in Winnipeg verses BC and playoff money. |

I really think we?re out on signing an expensive FA in the receiving core. Bring back Adams, hope for McKnight?s continued development, and bring in a ton of bodies for TC like we did with DBs last year. |

It's not just rent. Cost of living usually refers to a host of things not simply rent/shelter costs. You wanna go out to eat? Costs more in Vancouver. Your grocery store bill? More expensive. These guys aren't exactly eating cheap prepacked stuff either. How many "top" WR's will reach FA, and how many "seasoned vets" will take a value contract to keep playing. I believe it's possible we'll get a secondary market guy. Depending on the value vs. what we already have on the roster. But whenever someone throws out the name of a Lawler replacement, it's always one of the high money guys. I don't think that is in the cards. Our Lawler replacement is Bailey. |
